The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 8
“Let me think… The turtle’s name is Prime Minister Turtle, and the carp is Little Carp…”
He pointed to the animals in the pond and began introducing them.
“The orange cat is Rainbow Cat, the black one is Black Cat Detective, the gray one is Tom, the two pigs are Pig Hero and Peppa, and the last rabbit is Blue Rabbit. And the dog that’s licking your hand is Hachiko…”
He counted the animals in their cages.
“Gegege~!”
Suddenly, the rooster in the corner proudly crowed, wanting some attention.
“Oh, I almost forgot you, Ikun.”
He turned and lifted a finger.
“Ge!”
The rooster hopped around and flapped its wings, clearly displeased and ready to attack.
“I can’t believe you’ve named them all! And you even remembered their names—amazing, Izumi-chan!”
With her hands cupped to her cheeks, Fujiwara Chika spoke with admiration.
“It’s nothing, really. I just memorized their characteristics.”
He waved his hand nonchalantly.
“Speaking of which, are there any special meanings behind the names you give them?”
“That’s a bit of a long story, so let’s not get into it.”
After helping him feed the animals, Fujiwara Chika parted ways with him after meeting up with her friends near the school building.
Meanwhile, Izumi-chan received a text from Rikka, then headed toward the activity building.
“You’ve finally come, Sage.”
Takanashi Rikka glanced at him sidelong, her gaze intense.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King.”
A figure emerged from the shadows, a smile playing on his lips.
The clandestine meeting looked like something straight out of a story about an imminent dark incident.
“Then, obey my will! Open, door belonging to us, the path to Magic!”
Takanashi Rikka reached out with her right hand, and the door swung open.
Someone had unlocked it before her arrival. It was possible that she’d already been inside and was only waiting for him for the sake of the show.
The interior of the activity room was unexpectedly nice, furnished like a living room in a house. There were not only tables and cabinets but also a full set of couches, which made it seem downright luxurious.
Apparently, this room used to be the abandoned tea ceremony club’s headquarters. Since this school attracted many students from wealthy families, they didn’t care much about the cost of maintaining such lavish decorations.
“It’s so soft; it feels like sitting on cotton candy.”
Takanashi Rikka sat down on the sofa, sinking into it, and she felt quite at home.
“We won’t need to do any major renovations this way,” Hasegawa said, satisfied after trying the sofa for himself.
“Mm-hmm! This is perfect.”
Takanashi Rikka agreed wholeheartedly.
After all, they had no money to spare for renovations.
It seemed like they’d gotten the better end of the deal with their bargain with the teacher.
With a bit more effort, the clubroom was spotless once more.
“Done,” Takanashi Rikka said, wiping the sweat from her brow.
Looking around, both of them were extremely pleased with what they saw.
This was the place where dreams would take flight!
Before heading out to recruit members, there was one task left: hanging the name of the club above the door.
“All done,” Hasegawa said, having written “Far Eastern Magic Society” on a wooden plaque with a calligraphy brush.
The characters were full and rounded, yet crisp and angular, subtly evoking a sense of sharpness.
“Oh! It’s almost like a work of art! No wonder you’re known as the Sage—even your calligraphy is superb.”
Takanashi Rikka held the plaque, looking astonished. She seemed to sense something peculiar in these characters, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
“Let me hang it up now.”
She took it upon herself to put the plaque up, so she moved a stool over, stood on her tiptoes, and tried to hang it on the door.
But her height was an issue, and she had to stand on her tiptoes to reach.
Takanashi wobbled, but just as she finally managed to hang the plaque, she lost her balance and fell forward.
“Ah!”
Just as she was about to make a close acquaintance with the floor, a strong arm suddenly appeared beneath her, wrapped around her waist.
Instantly, her body formed a horizontal line parallel to the ground.
The scene was thrilling, and she could even hear her own heartbeat.
Hasegawa exerted himself with his right hand, using his left to support the girl’s back, helping her stand straight.
“Is it really too much to expect the Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King to keep her balance? If you’d fallen to your death, that would’ve been the biggest joke in the history of this world.”
He couldn’t help but tease her.
“I, uh, lost my composure. It’s a shame, and I’ll remember this day.”
Takanashi Rikka stared at him, then suddenly realized something. Her face turned red, like a boiled shrimp, and she lowered her head.
“Well, everyone has their moments of weakness. I hope you find your strength soon,” he said, patting her on the shoulder.
“Mm,” she responded softly.
After establishing their base and settling their rear, it was time to recruit members. However, they weren’t ready for that yet, and the first week was almost over, so they decided to wait until next week.
Just as they were heading to the club recruitment office to observe how to recruit members, they realized no one was there. Instead, the crowd was heading toward the assembly hall.
Out of curiosity, Hasegawa and Rikka followed them. As it turned out, a “club activity explanation meeting” was taking place, where most clubs had people present to explain their club activities to students sitting in the audience.
“Izumi-chan, come here a minute.”
Fujiwara Chika, chatting with a friend in a corner, noticed them and beckoned them over quietly.
“Let’s go over there,” he said to Rikka.
They walked over to Chika.
“Izumi-chan, Takanashi-san, are you planning to join us to see?”
Chika knew they were forming a club.
“We didn’t know about this. We just happened to be nearby… Chika, are you joining a club?”
He shook his head and asked her the same question.
“I’m planning to join Tabletop Gaming Club. I want to make games with everyone and share them!”
Chika spread her arms wide, like the unfurling of a pair of wings.
“But too bad. It would be nice if Izumi-chan could join with me.”
Her gaze was filled with hope.
“I’m not even slightly interested,” he replied immediately, without the slightest hesitation.
This woman was impossible to deal with when she got excited, so he had to quash her enthusiasm before it took root.
“Oh, what a pity.”
Her head drooped.
The general meeting of the clubs ended after some time.
As they left, Hasegawa Izumi saw someone familiar out of the corner of his eye.
A figure that made him feel regret, the ancient magician who penned a Grimoire — Mori Summer.
