Setting up a club requires five members?

I never paid much attention to these things before, so I really didn’t know.

But if we have to find three more people to set up the club, that’s way too much trouble.

I guess we should try to bluff our way through first, thought Hasegawa.

While he was thinking, Takanashi Rikka took the initiative.

“Actually, we have enough members,” she said, stepping forward with a serious expression.

“Huh?”

Tsukumo Nanase waited expectantly for her to continue.

“It’s just that, as you can’t see them, you don’t know about them. They’re spirits, so only people like us can see them.”

Takanashi Rikka pointed at the air around her, as if summoning some invisible army. Her fingers moved deliberately, as though there really were people standing there.

So that’s how it is. Is this how they’re going to pull it off? Like “The Emperor’s New Clothes”… But will it work? It’s not very convincing. Hasegawa looked in the direction she was pointing, then turned back to his teacher.

The teacher seemed speechless.

Are they treating her like an idiot?!

“Even if there are people there, Takanashi-san, you can’t guarantee they’re students at this school, can you? So that won’t work either,” Tsukumo Nanase explained calmly.

“What? There’s a rule like that?!” Rikka looked shocked.

Suddenly, a hand landed on her shoulder from behind.

“Let me handle this,” Hasegawa said, his voice reassuring.

Instantly, his words calmed her panicked heart.

“I actually have multiple personalities, so I think they probably count as Shuchi’in students,” he said.

“Hasegawa-san, are you going to join Takanashi-san in her foolishness?” Tsukumo Nanase asked with a faint smile.

“If you don’t believe me, why don’t I call them out for you to see?” Suddenly, his expression changed. “Nana-chan, please~ Let us form our club!” He adopted a flirtatious tone. Then, in the next moment, his expression turned serious again, and he clenched his fists. “Please lend us your assistance, Sensei. We will never forget this kindness!”

“Sensei, I advise you to agree. If not, when I get mad, even I’ll be scared,” he said, sounding terrifyingly murderous.

“Ah… Oh.”

Tsukumo Nanase’s mouth opened wide, forming an O.

This is way too real!

It didn’t seem like an act.

“Ahem… Ahem…”

Immediately, her expression changed.

“I don’t care how hard you try to sell it, Hasegawa-san, but I’ll make an exception this time, considering your efforts. I’ll apply for your ‘Association,’ and you’ll get your own club room. However, there won’t be any funding, and you have to agree to one small request.”

In the end, after they wheedled and pleaded, their homeroom teacher finally relented.

“This is good enough,” he said, simultaneously exhaling with relief along with Takanashi Rikka.

“What’s the request?” Hasegawa Izumi asked.

“Well, the Animal Husbandry Club is supposed to be dissolved this year, but no one’s willing to take care of the animals they’ve been raising. The school planned to send them away, but at someone’s request, the directors decided to keep them. So…”

Tsukumo Nanase continued, “How long will we have to take care of them?”

“Right now, the school is looking for someone to take care of them,” Tsukumo Nanase continued. “They’ve given us half a month to find someone, so there’s no need to worry that you’ll be tied down. Feeding them doesn’t take long.”

The teacher had noticed his concerns.

“Then we’ll leave it to you.”

Hasegawa nodded, agreeing to the barter.

“Here, this is the place. All the feed is in that room; just come by once a day to feed them.”

Following the teacher, the two walked to a remote part of the campus.

Flowers and grass thrived here, their petals and leaves overlapping, and some birds were strolling leisurely among them. The animals also had plenty of space to move around, each living in a cage many times larger than their bodies.

This environment was no different from the wilderness.

Is this the joy of the rich?

Not only did some clubs have their own training halls or sports complexes, but there was even a small zoo.

“I’ll be heading out first. Don’t stay out too late, you two—go home soon.”

After giving her instructions, Tsukumo Nanase left first.

The remaining two turned their faces toward each other, their eyes meeting.

“Great! We’re just about to achieve our first goal! Now we just have to wait for Nana-chan’s good news!”

Takanashi Rikka jumped up happily.

She really was full of life.

“Although…”

Hasegawa Izumi nodded, then turned to look at all the various animals.

“Don’t worry, I’ll help!” she promptly declared, slapping her chest proudly.

And so, two days passed.

At lunchtime, Fujiwara Chika curiously approached them.

“Izumi-chan, what are you and Takanashi-san doing, being all secretive and stuff?”

“This is ‘classified.’ If you want to know, you need to apply to join our organization.”

Takanashi Rikka’s expression turned stern.

“Are you keeping secrets even from me, Izumi-chan?”

She cast a woeful gaze at Hasegawa Izumi.

“It’s nothing, really. I just planned to create a club, and I made a deal with Nana-chan to get her to…”

He had no reservations about sharing the information.

“Anyway, it’s not a secret, so I’ll tell you.”

Takanashi Rikka changed her tune.

“I see…”

Fujiwara Chika’s feet swayed, her body swayed, and she smiled without speaking.

“Would you like to come with us, Chika?” he asked.

“I suppose I have no choice, since Izumi-chan wants to invite me. I’ll go with you, then.”

Fujiwara Chika’s smile bloomed like a flower.

You’re the one who wants to go, thought Izumi, but he didn’t bother pointing that out.

After school…

“Takanashi Rikka, Hasegawa-san, your club applications have been approved.”

As the three of them headed outside together, Tsukumo Nanase suddenly appeared.

“I’ll handle it, Izumi,” Takanashi Rikka volunteered, glancing at him meaningfully.

“All right.”

On the way, Fujiwara Chika hums happily.

“I didn’t even know this place existed in Shuchi’in. If I had, I’d come visit more often.”

When she arrives, she exclaims in delight.

The middle school is quite a distance from the high school, so it’s understandable that she wouldn’t know much about it.

“Oh, look, it’s a cat, and a puppy!”

She stops between the two cages, crouches down, and reaches out to greet them.

“You sure do love animals, Chika.”

Hasegawa Izumi senses her sincerity, which surprises him.

“Exactly what kind of image do you have of me, Izumi-chan?!” Fujiwara Chika tilts her head back, pouting in displeasure.

“Uh, hard to say.” His gaze flutters.

During their many confrontations, Chika has often resorted to underhanded tactics to achieve victory, so he’s felt that her innocent exterior might be a façade, that she’s really a natural-born black hole.

It seems that even with friends one has known for a long time, understanding can be incomplete.

“Oh, right, what are these animals’ names?”

Fujiwara Chika doesn’t have time to get mad; she feels the puppy’s tongue licking her hand and asks curiously.
