The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 6
“See you tomorrow, Izumi-chan, Takanashi-san~”
After leaving school, Fujiwara Chika had quickly bid them farewell, as their addresses were different.
“So, how it is?” Hasegawa Izumi asked as they headed toward the trolley stop.
“As a support character, Fujiwara-san is quite good. She’s very diligent, and I think she’d make a good candidate for our organization,” Takanashi Rikka said, thinking for a moment.
“That’s not what I asked,” he replied, shooting her a glance.
Chika’s performance just now had felt entirely out of place with the rest of them, and she hadn’t demonstrated any particular aptitude, either. Explaining such things to her would only annoy her, so he didn’t bother.
“I’m asking what you think of Shuchi’in.”
“It seems to have a lot of history, but there’s something off about it, like it’s been tainted by the Dark Power, or perhaps some impurity.”
“Well, it looks like you’ve at least got some awareness. Then, when you’re on your own, you’ll need to be careful, so you don’t get influenced by any other powers.”
He was telling her to watch out, since, as far as he could tell, Rikka was no different from an ordinary person. She might not be able to handle danger on her own.
“Don’t underestimate me. As a Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King, even in close combat, my battle prowess is beyond imagination. Plus, I have a Noble Phantasm.”
The girl muttered a retort and lifted a leg to show off her shoes.
Actually, what she’d meant to say was “My powers weren’t sealed,” but for some reason, she unconsciously followed his line of thought instead. For some strange reason, she wasn’t feeling it today.
They arrived at the platform, and the train arrived shortly thereafter.
Takanashi Rikka got off the train a stop earlier than him. As she stepped out onto the platform, the girl glanced backward, then looked forward and raised her hand.
“History will record this momentous day, when the Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King and the Sage’s chance encounter ushered in a new era.”
A woman’s voice, as if she were a narrator, rang out.
Hasegawa Izumi was speechless.
Does she have to be this cool?
I’ve learned another trick.
When he got home…
“Beep.”
He received a message from his childhood friend.
He opened it.
Eriri: Did you pull some big stunt on the first day of school?
I: What do you mean? I haven’t heard anything about that.
Eriri: Don’t play dumb with me!
Eriri: I heard that the biggest laugh of the orientation ceremony today was when some idiot introduced himself by saying he’s an alien or an Esper or something. I thought about it, and there’s only one person who could possibly be talking about himself like that!
I: Oh, you’re talking about me.
Eriri: Just a little bit of self-awareness, please! Keep it under control, or you’ll lose all your friends.
I don’t have any friends, but I did gain an ally today.
I: Are you concerned about me now, Eriri?
Eriri: …
Eriri: I’m just worried I won’t be able to give auntie an explanation. Anyway, enough chatting. I have to practice drawing.
“Is it really so hard to just admit it?”
Hasegawa clicked his tongue.
The day for the official start of school had arrived.
When he stepped back into the classroom, he could distinctly sense that his arrival had attracted numerous stares, each one different.
It seemed like his speech yesterday had, as expected, given these sheltered people a little brain shock.
“Sage, I ran an inquiry while I was heading upstairs. Your existence power has clearly advanced. It seems like your actions yesterday bore fruit… When do you want to start?”
As soon as Takanashi Rikka took her seat, she sought him out.
The topic of conversation she broached was a bit of a leap, but it wasn’t difficult to understand.
“Oh? Do you think I have some sort of plan?” he asked with a soft sound of surprise.
Is she trying to ascertain whether or not I’m qualified to be an ally?
Understanding his unspoken question, Takanashi Rikka responded, “To ordinary humans, they’re unaware of the turbulent undercurrents beneath the surface of the world, so they won’t heed the Sage’s words. So, your goal is actually to attract those who possess ability.”
Isn’t that just the literal interpretation? He remained silent.
Noticing that the man’s expression remained unchanged, the girl continued, “Of course, the other purpose is to show those who have been given powers but don’t understand their situation a clear path. After all, it would be incredibly dangerous to run into the ‘Invisible Boundary Lines Authority’ without knowing what you’re getting yourself into. The Sage is truly wise and benevolent!”
“What’s the Invisible Boundary Lines Authority? Sounds scary,” Hasegawa said, puzzled.
“It’s an incomprehensibly mysterious organization that holds the secrets of the ‘Invisible Boundary Lines.’ The Invisible Boundary Lines are an unknown realm; someone very important to me disappeared there, and my purpose in embarking on this path is to find them…”
Her expression changed slightly, and her tone took on a note of gravity.
“I see. If I come across any clues related to the Invisible Boundary Lines, I’ll be sure to let you know.”
Her words stirred something within him.
He could empathize with her sorrow.
“I understand the Sage’s intentions, but I’m afraid it won’t be easy. My elder sister, Takanashi Toka, somehow became a Magician of the Invisible Boundary Lines Authority, with the title ‘Priestess.’ They are an enormously powerful organization. Even with the True Eye of the Evil King unsealed, I might not be able to defeat her.”
Takanashi Rikka shook her head and sighed. “But, if the Sage is willing to help, I’m much more confident.”
With that, she clenched her fists, her eyes once again burning with determination.
“Mm-hmm.”
He nodded, a trace of uncertainty in his eyes.
Why does something seem off? Is it the complicated family relationships or something else…?
Without knowing the whole picture, he held back from making any further comment.
“Izumi,” she said, “since we’ve established our base of operations, let’s absorb suitable members and gradually build up our strength, then search for the Invisible Boundary Lines!”
Takanashi Rikka’s eyes were bright and shining as she gripped his hands tightly.
“Exactly what I had in mind.”
His expression was eager, ready to get started.
At noon, he went to his classroom to request a club registration form from his teacher, and after school, he and Rikka paid a visit to the office together.
However, their enthusiastic plans got stuck at the very first step.
“If there are only two of you, even if I agree to be your advisor, it won’t do any good. Hasegawa-san and Takanashi-san.”
With an awkward smile, their homeroom teacher, Tsukumo Nanase, placed the form on her desk.
