The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 39
Silence fell over the court.
Even Hasegawa’s supporters were stunned.
Sure, everyone knew he was strong. He’d defeated the tennis club president 6-0, and his speed exceeded that of a track star, but no one expected him to be this ridiculously powerful.
After all, a 1v1 situation was different from a 1v5, and these opponents weren’t pushovers.
They began to suspect even the world’s best basketball players might not have been able to do what Hasegawa had just done.
“Attack together!”
Every great team had a leader, and for the Far Eastern Magic Society, that was Hasegawa. As for the basketball team, it was naturally their Club President, Hinata Koji. He quickly pushed aside his astonishment and took charge, directing his teammates into position.
It was only a single point scored against them, and they still led by a significant margin. That was why they could keep their cool.
Kurosaki, in possession of the ball, immediately passed it to another teammate, Kato, while the rest of their defenders followed close behind.
The team was completely united, all for the purpose of protecting their club president and allowing him to score effectively.
Though there were five members on the opposing team, in their eyes, there was only one person they needed to worry about: Hasegawa!
“I’ve got this. I can handle it alone,” Hasegawa Izumi assured her teammates, who looked at her with slight worry, with a faint smile.
Under these circumstances, having the girls block an aggressive charge like this would be too much to ask. They instinctively moved aside, placing their trust in their captain.
“Slam… slam…”
The basketball had reached Hinata Koji, and he was about to face a one-on-one duel with the opponent’s strongest player.
Clearly, he had no intention of fighting. The player’s earlier move had been far too shocking.
“I’ll do anything for the team’s victory!” he thought, intending to pass the ball to his teammate Kato, who was to his left.
In that instant, as he raised his arm to toss the ball, Kato’s expression suddenly changed.
“Captain…”
He hadn’t even said, “Watch out!” before the figure had already closed the distance, as if he’d known all along. He reached out and smacked the ball away, then grabbed it and took off down the court, murmuring, “I told you, you’re too slow.”
Hasegawa Izumi leaped past Hinata Koji, simultaneously clearing Kato and Kurosaki as well.
Now, he once again faced two defenders: Hiiragi Gomatsu and Akamichi Ronin.
“I’m not gonna fall for your trick this time!”
Hiiragi hadn’t been fazed by the previous shot. Instead, he teamed up with Akamichi, one in front, one behind, ready to block Hasegawa’s path.
“Looks impressive, but it’s not gonna work.”
Hasegawa Izumi’s expression was pure enjoyment as he smiled and responded, then unleashed his legendary move that had once stunned the basketball world of another plane.
There was no one to pass the ball to, nor was there any need to pass.
He charged forward alone, his movements fluid and graceful like drifting clouds, like a dancing sprite, slicing through the defense the two defenders had erected as if it were nothing.
Their eyes and expressions hadn’t changed, but the player and ball had already swept past them.
“What?!”
The crowd was still stunned when Hasegawa Izumi charged into the restricted area. Then, he leaped into the air, catching the basketball in one hand, and slammed it into the net like a soaring butterfly.
“Beep!”
The whistle announcing a successful shot sounded once again.
“What just happened?” Hiiragi Gomatsu’s voice was bitter.
He hadn’t been able to react at all before he was passed, utterly helpless. Was there really someone in this world who could move that fast?
“This is called ‘Blue Butterfly Skimming Through the Clouds.’ Unfortunately, this world hasn’t fully recovered to the point where I can use the full version of this move, or I’d make it unforgettable for you.”
Hasegawa Izumi explained as he retreated on defense, regret clear in his tone.
So this wasn’t even the full version? Was he planning on jumping from midcourt?! The spectators were dying to roast him.
“Settle down, settle down!”
“Keep attacking!”
Hinata Koji’s call brought the members of the basketball team back to reality.
“Even though he’s weird, he’s so cool!”
“Go, Hasegawa, go!”
“Hasegawa-san, wanna go date with your senpai?”
Despite being outnumbered 1:5, the cheerleaders had completely switched sides. Some of the spectators were also getting very worked up and shouting various embarrassing things.
What a bunch of oestrous sows, Eriri thought, her face flushed, contempt written on her face. They’re already panting at these two measly tricks.
But she couldn’t deny that Izumi was getting quite good at showing off, and she was genuinely impressed. Her boiling emotions nearly set her on fire.
“Let’s go, Hayasaka. There’s no reason to stay any longer.”
On the other side, Shinomiya Kaguya had already prepared to leave.
“Kaguya-sama, do you feel threatened?”
Hayasaka Ai’s figure appeared from the shadows.
“Hayasaka, do you think I’ll lose?”
Shinomiya Kaguya glanced sideways, her burgundy eyes as captivating as crimson blood, yet icy cold.
“I believe you have a good grasp of the situation, Kaguya-sama.”
Hayasaka Ai gave a diplomatic answer. Losing wasn’t necessarily shameful. Other than academics, it wasn’t like Shinomiya Kaguya cared about anything all that much; she often only put forth sixty percent of her effort. But honestly, this man was someone she might not be able to defeat even if she went all out.
“Let’s go,” she said simply, quietly leaving without another word.
————————
“Wow!”
The cheer from the basketball court continued unabated.
In a similar 1v5 situation, with a similar pass, this time the basketball club carefully passed the ball from behind, managing to penetrate into the Far Eastern Magic Society’s restricted area.
Unfortunately, just as Hinata Koji attempted a slam dunk, Hasegawa Izumi leaped up, placed a hand on the basketball, and the sensation of overwhelming pressure forced him to the ground.
But once he landed, Hasegawa Izumi once again displayed his godly dribbling speed and incomprehensible moves to get past his opponent.
No one could stop him.
“Unstoppable Dragon Unhindered by Regret: Windmill Dunk!”
Then he sprang into action, executing a move so incredible it made the spectators gasp, a perfectly executed 360-degree spin slam dunk.
“Swish.”
Another basket.
By now, the basketball players were numb to what they were seeing.
Could anyone stop this “monster”?
