The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 35
Friday, beneath the calm surface of the school, a storm raged.
For one, the following day was the beginning of Golden Week, but more importantly, the long-awaited battle was finally about to commence!
A gentle spring breeze blew, rustling the curtains.
At lunchtime, Nibutani Shinka was suddenly surrounded by a crowd of her classmates.
If it had been because of her popularity, she would have been thrilled, but that wasn’t the case. Everyone was talking about the list of contestants the Mass Media Club had released this morning.
“Is it true? Nibutani-san, are you really going to play in the match after school? Isn’t it dangerous?!”
“How can you possibly beat those basketball boys?! They’re so tall and a brute barbarians!”
“There’s no way your team can win, not even with Hasegawa!”
The girls chattered anxiously around her.
I think there’s no way we’ll win either, Nibutani Shinka thought, but she kept her thoughts to herself. At this point, nothing she said would change the situation, so she might as well heed Hasegawa’s advice and become a passionate duelist!
“Speaking of which, it’s not bad having all this attention.”
The girl’s lips curved into a smile, like a laughing car, and she gazed up at the clouds.
The only problem was, the higher she climbed, the more painful her fall would be.
“So, Truth Seeker, lead us to victory!”
Once again, she felt that sense of affinity, as though they her soulmates.
At the same time, in Shuchi’in’s middle school, the other students received the news that Dekomori Sanae would be participating in the tournament as well.
As the only middle school student, she stood out so much that it was hard to believe it was true.
“Dekomori-san, are you serious? The basketball club is full of monsters! You’ll get hurt! They’re probably at least ‘evil lords’ compared to us!”
During recess, several girls came to talk her out of it, along with one boy she got along with well.
In Dekomori Sanae’s mind, he was probably the type who would carry luggage for a hero.
“Are you trying to underestimate me, Toy Master?! It’s just an evil lord! Compared to the Mjölnir’s Wielder, it’s nothing to fear! Besides, Master and Sage-Sama will be fighting alongside me, so there’s no enemy we can’t overcome!”
She flicked her wrist, speaking fervently.
“Could you not call him ‘Toys Master’? It’s a bit embarrassing.”
The boy before her looked a little uneasy.
“But if that ‘Sage’ is really as legendary as you say, maybe you guys could actually win…”
“Of course, Sage-sama is our pride and joy!”
“That’s nice. If only I could express myself like that guy,” he murmured, his eyes filled with envy.
But after just a moment’s thought…
“Or maybe not. I’d probably get killed, and my corpse would sink to the bottom of Tokyo Bay.”
He didn’t have the confidence or ability to ride such terrifying waves.
Time passed, second by second, minute by minute, making the waiting audience increasingly anxious.
Then…
“Ring~”
The school bell rang, suffocating the atmosphere even further.
In the history of Shuchi’in, no one had ever done anything like this, and never had so many people paid so much attention to a single event.
This was no longer just a simple competition. It was the witnessing of—
The birth of a king!
————–
“Let’s go.”
There was no need for further explanation. Hasegawa Izumi and her friends Chika and Rikka communicated with their gazes.
The girls’ eyes were filled with determination, as if they had transformed into warriors!
Though there was hardly any time, their diligent practice over the past few days had yielded remarkable results, enough to astonish the world.
The battle to come would be a spectacle no one at Shuchi’in could have anticipated.
“Don’t push, don’t push!”
“There’s no room in the gym for that many people!”
“That’s enough, stop right now!”
As soon as school was dismissed, the students swarmed toward the gym, eager to watch the match.
But there were too many people; it simply couldn’t accommodate such a large crowd during a competition.
In this emergency, the student council had no choice but to step in to manage the situation.
In the end, reality set in. In this Shuchi’in High School, social hierarchy was extremely clear, so they quickly ruled that most of the students would be denied entry.
“Everyone, don’t be disappointed! For today’s event, we’ve prepared a live stream. If you’re interested, please follow me.”
The student council president appeared, urging everyone to leave.
These people could accept this compromise, so they dispersed without incident.
The gym was now empty save for a few dozen spectators.
“Good afternoon, Shinomiya-san.”
“Hello, Sawamura-san… Are you here to watch Hasegawa’s match?”
In one corner of the gym, Eriri and Shinomiya Kaguya happened to cross paths.
“Well… That’s right,” Eriri replied, glancing around to ensure no one was listening in before nodding and confessing her intentions.
“You really working hard”
Shinomiya Kaguya analyzed the situation, arriving at the correct conclusion with a faint smile.
“Is Shinomiya-san also interested in this match?”
Eriri completely ignored her. Her eyes flickered, and she changed the subject. “Mm-hmm, naturally.”
Shinomiya Kaguya nodded confidently.
“But why?”
Eriri’s expression suddenly became guarded.
If it was Shinomiya, then things were a bit more complicated!
“Because… my intuition tells me that it won’t be long before Hasegawa-san comes before me…”
“Huh?”
“Then he’ll challenge me to duel.”
“Oh.”
Upon hearing this, the girl’s eyebrows relax.
“If that’s the case, it’s true. You’ve won the national championship multiple times since middle school, so you’re definitely on Izumi’s list.”
Eriri nods in agreement.
Hasegawa Izumi isn’t pulling some kind of scheme; he’s already told everyone his reasons and goals, so it’s make sense.
“Sawamura-san, it seems you have a lot of faith in Hasegawa-san.”
Shinomiya Kaguya’s lips curl up slightly.
“Hmph! Who’d believe that idiot?”
Eriri flushes, hmphs, and turns her head away.
First, doubt. Then, trust!
Doubt again. Trust again!
That’s her process.
Shinomiya Kaguya had more questions she wanted to ask, but at that moment, both teams appear on the field, drawing all their attention.
At the same time, Asahi Shizuku, the Mass Media Club President and emcee, speaks through the loudspeaker.
“Before we begin, let’s introduce both teams…”
