Near the gym was a remote stretch of greenery.

“Snap.”

Nibutani Shinka had dragged Hasegawa Izumi all the way out here, then pressed her hand against his shoulder, forcing him to lean against the wall. They were practically nose-to-nose, which, if this were a romance, would have been the setup for a kiss scene. However, the girl’s eyes contained nothing but rage.

“You jerk! Just how much do you want to torment me before you’re satisfied?! I don’t want my social life end like this! If you guys want to play around, then go ahead and leave me out of it! Just pretend we never met, okay?!”

“Mori Summer…”

“Don’t call me that!”

In the face of her furious interrogation, he replied with an even tone, “Calm down, Shinka.”

“How can I calm down?! Your actions are just as bad as putting a knife to my throat! I don’t even dare go back now. They’re bound to suspect I’m involved with you and the others, and then they’ll start drifting away from me…

Nibutani Shinka felt more and more wronged, and her head drooped, not wanting him to see her disconsolate expression.

“It doesn’t matter whether you have friends or not, does it?” he was unimpressed.

“Don’t assume everyone’s like you,” she snapped, raising her head again.

“You’re avoiding the core of the problem. But deep down, you know… You’re different from them. Perhaps you’re still a little unsure, but I believe that after some time, you’ll come to accept this.”

His words caught her off guard; they were too close to the truth.

“Also, I’m not the main character this time. Someone else has that role.”

Before Nibutani could retort, he lifted his right hand and pointed behind her.

“Hm?”

Nibutani Shinka turned around. At some point, three people had appeared.

“From the look in your eyes, you seem like a perfectly ordinary person, but could it be that your mind has been corrupted by the Administrative Bureau’s magic? whatever, Death… Sage-Sama might have identified you, but I still need to confirm your identity using my own methods, Death! Let me see if you’re the real ‘Mori Summer’ or not!”

As she spoke, Dekomori Sanae pulled a book from beneath her clothing. It was bound in black, with various paper-cutting-like decorations on its cover.

What is she doing? Nibutani Shinka wondered, looking puzzled. She hadn’t yet noticed anything amiss.

However, as Dekomori began to turn the pages and recite aloud, her expression slowly changed.

[“Although I’ve lost my memories…”]

[“I am indeed a Mage, having lived for five hundred years, currently residing in the world of man.”]

[“Herein are stories told under the guidance of spirits.”]

[“My name is Mori Summer.”]

“Ah! No…….I don’t want to hear this! Aaagh…”

Clutching his head, Nibutani Shinka felt like the Great Sage, Sun Wukong, after hearing the incantation that made his head throb painfully. The damage she receive even stronger than that. She screamed miserably.

[“As I’m sure everyone already knows, there exists a white world and a black world…”]

Dekomori Sanae looked at Nibutani, shook her head, and continued reading.

“Bang… Bang…”

Nibutani Shinka slammed his head against the wall to distract himself.

Embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing, way too embarrassing!

Who wrote this crap?!

And he actually dared to fantasize about being a Mage… Ah, it’s me!

Never mind, then.

“Ah~ when reading the records left by Mori Summer, I find myself unable to extricate myself… You truly are not the Dekomori I envisioned…”

Just as Dekomori Sanae was about to pass judgment…

Nibutani Shinka spun around and rushed toward her, extending his right hand.

“I buried this in a distant space-time! It should never have been brought back to life!”

However, Takanashi Rikka and Fujiwara Chika blocked her path.

“This area is off-limits!” Takanashi Rikka said, holding out an arm to stop them.

“Don’t get in my way!”

Nibutani Shinka had lost her mind. Even with the odds stacked against her, she tried to break through the blockade.

However, the two people in front of her didn’t give her the chance, grabbing her and holding her in place.

“I’m sorry, Nibutani-san, but I’m with Izumi-chan now,” Fujiwara Chika said apologetically, though her expression was that of a riled-up fighter.

“Do you want to steal the Mabinogion from me? There’s no way a mere mortal like you could succeed, Death.”

Dekomori Sanae closed the Mabinogion, then gave it a dismissive thumbs-down.

“Sage-Sama, perhaps you’ve got the wrong person; this Mori Summer is a fraud, Death.”

Then she turned to Hasegawa Izumi, who had walked up beside her.

“Think about it carefully: Nibutani Shinka, Shinka… Isn’t “Mori” (森) (shin) and “Summer” (夏) (ka). “Summer Summer”.

Hasegawa Izumi shook her head and raised a finger.

“Maybe someone else is using her name? Could this be another plot by the Administrative Bureau?”

Takanashi Rikka tried to make a deduction.

“Wait…” Having struggled to no avail, exhausted, Nibutani Shinka suddenly had an idea.

There was still a chance to salvage her reputation, however. If she could steal back the Mabinogion, destroy the only evidence, and stubbornly deny any association with the group, then…

“Y’can’t blame me for being heartless! You’re forcing my hand!” A cold glint flashed through her eyes.

And so, Nibutani Shinka began with the first step.

“I am Mori Summer, and the Mabinogion is indeed my work.” Her expression changed smoothly, now wearing an amiable smile. “Is that so? I don’t believe it! Hmph, how will you prove Death wrong?”

Dekomori Sanae pointed at her.

“I know the contents of the Mabinogion.”

She thought for a moment.

“The great Mori Summer once shared the Mabinogion in the electronic sea – Death. What’s so strange about knowing its contents?”

Dekomori Sanae shot back.

This kid’s way too hard to deal with! Nibutani Shinka grumbled internally, barely restraining her anger.

But if she didn’t endure this hardship, she’d have little chance of retrieving the Mabinogion through normal means. “Hasegawa can vouch for me. Surely Sage-sama’s omniscient eyes see through everything?”

She could only turn to the man who had altered her life forever.
