The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 28
Above, the silver moon hung bright in the sky.
Below, the world lay bathed in its radiant glow.
In this battle of mind against mind, the inconceivable realm was instantly achieved.
This was a deep dimension accessible only to those chosen few.
Takanashi Rikka’s left eye was as dark as ever, but her right glowed with a brilliant golden light, freed from the constraints of the present world, the True Eye of the Evil King’s full power erupting without restraint.
A sight to strike terror into any who beheld it.
Dekomori Sanae was ready for battle, her own magic surging with thunderous force, her power surging forth without hesitation.
For a moment, both stood silent, their gazes gradually converging, each reflecting the other’s form.
When their eyes met, it would be the signal for battle!
In the next instant, both moved at once.
“I, in accord with our blood pact, summon thee… Dark Night Queen!”
Takanashi Rikka bit her finger, and blood spattered as she stretched out her right hand, summoning a weapon from the void. Its hilt was strange, and three razor-sharp blades protruded from its head. It was enormous, beyond compare.
“Dark Matter Burning Fire!”
She leapt into the air, her silhouette like a silver crescent moon, and swung her weapon, unleashing an attack of seven-colored flames.
“Come forth! Mjölnir!”
Dekomori Sanae, unwilling to be outdone, summoned her own personal weapon: a gigantic golden battle hammer.
“Everflame Mjölnir!”
She extended her right hand, and a magical array instantly formed, releasing a raging inferno.
This was the legacy of the Elf Queen’s elven magic!
The two flames collided, burning into a blaze of colors, until the seven-colored flames rapidly consumed the other side’s magical fire. This outcome was unsurprising, as one party was using a skill not native to their race, greatly diminishing its effectiveness. However, the seven-colored flames had already weakened considerably, so Dekomori Sanae easily extinguished the incoming inferno with a swing of her Mjölnir.
By then, however, Takanashi Rikka had already launched her second attack.
“Everlance!”
A dark matter bullet flew forth.
Silver light streaked across the sky. Dekomori Sanae instinctively launched a defensive attack, yet she was still blasted back some fifty meters, leaving a deep gouge in the ground.
“As expected of the True Eye of the Evil King,” Takamori Sanae said through clenched teeth, raising her head. “It can catch even the most minute flaw.”
“That’s our difference, Dekomori,” Takanashi Rikka said, striding forward with an air of arrogance. “Face reality!”
“That’s not gonna make me surrender! You’re way too overconfident!”
Dekomori Sanae snorted, then charged forward, her war hammer in hand.
“Yi-yah!”
“You’re a stubborn one, aren’t you? Looks like I’ll have to give you a good lesson today!”
Takanashi Rikka mirrored her opponent’s movements.
Both parties leaped into the air, their two world-shattering weapons meeting with a crash, and an aura of destruction pierced the very fabric of reality…
After a long while…
One figure stood steadily above the heavens, while another sat disheveled on the ground.
“Dekomori, you’ve lost.”
“It’s just a mortal wound. I can still fight!”
“Haah…”
Off to the side, someone yawned.
“How much longer are you two gonna keep fighting? You’re wearing down the very path to victory.”
“My apologies, Death. Since Sage-Sama has already determined the outcome, I, Dekomori Sanae, will continue to acknowledge the True Eye of the Evil King—no, your status as Master!”
“Then this battle is at an end… I welcome you to challenge me again anytime, but I’m not always so patient.”
And thus ended an unknown yet fierce battle.
After intense combat, replenishing one’s magic was a must.
The three of them approached the vending machine.
“This time, let me, Dekomori, treat Master and Sage-Sama, Death.”
Dekomori Sanae took out a 500-yen coin from her pocket, ready to put it in the machine.
“Wait…”
Takanashi Rikka reached out to stop her, stepping forward with her index and middle fingers touching each other. She closed her eyes and began to meditate.
“Up! Up! Down! Down! Left! Right! Left! Right!” she chanted as her hands waved through the air.
“Then it’s B! A! B! A!” Hasegawa Izumi added.
“As expected of the learned Sage, to know even this secret incantation for blessings!”
Takanashi Rikka seemed slightly taken aback, then turned to Dekomori. “Now, insert the coin!”
Dekomori Sanae didn’t hesitate to put the coin into the vending machine.
A drink promptly fell.
“Congratulations, you won! One free refill!”
Just as Dekomori Sanae grabbed the drink, the machine announced cheerily in a robotic female voice, and another bottle fell.
Hasegawa Izumi reached out and took it.
“Congratulations, you won a prize! One more free bottle!”
The machine announced this again, and another can clattered down.
“Is this the power of the curse? Amazing, Death!”
Dekomori Sanae’s face was filled with incredulity, but her expression quickly turned excited.
Takanashi Rikka’s face turned slightly red, and she nonchalantly removed the last bottle.
At that moment, the vending machine fell silent.
“It seems the curse’s power has limits too,” she lied, sounding perfectly serious.
In that instant, both girls seemed even more mysterious than ever to Dekomori.
After they left…
“This machine must have a bug! My chance!” A girl who’d been watching from the side approached, her expression filled with excitement. She dropped her coin into the machine. However, instead of the glorious freebie she’d hoped for, her coin disappeared like a rock thrown into the deep sea. The vending machine didn’t react at all.
“My money! Give me back my money!” She gave the machine a furious kick before leaving in a huff.
The three of them walked down the street.
“Uh, burp. The magic surged up inside me, just as I expected. The Administrative Bureau’s secret stash of magic recovery potions is super effective… Sage, what about the next subject? Fujiwara-san and Mori Summer?”
Takanashi Rikka took a sip of her drink, muttered to herself, then turned to ask.
Based on her understanding of Izumi’s social connections, she made a reasonable guess.
“Master, what are you talking about? Mori Summer?”
Before he could reply, Dekomori Sanae reacted strongly to the name.
“Dekomori, do you know this name?”
Hasegawa Izumi uttered a quiet, “eh?”
Based on her reaction, he formed a suspicion.
The technique Dekomori had used in their recent battle seemed to have been mentioned by Mori Summer. Supposedly, it had taken her a whole week to develop it.
“Of course I know Death! Aside from Master, she’s the person I respect most… Ah, that’s only true before I met Sage-sama!”
Having remembered something, Dekomori added, “Mori Summer once answered my questions about parallel universes in the electronic sea, and she’s also an ancient mage who wrote the Mabinogion. I’ve learned a lot from studying its contents…”
