One hand held up in a scissors-like gesture, the other extended, her posture perfectly poised, Dekomori Sanae struck a pose that was still somewhat dignified.

At this time, Hasegawa Izumi finally took a good look at her.

The girl before him was petite, with a pair of golden twintails. She wore the uniform of Shuchi’in Middle School. From certain angles, she looked quite like his childhood friend, but her twintails were a bit too striking—each one extended past her knees to the floor, and the ends were bound with something akin to a punching bag.

Her getup was a bit eccentric, but as a Servant of Rikka, a newcomer to the field, it was within the bounds of normalcy for her to dress in such an eye-catching manner.

“You’re Dekomori? I’m Hasegawa Izumi, an ally of Rikka and the current leader of the Far Eastern Magic Society. It’s nice to meet you,” he introduced himself, studying her carefully.

“Dekomori knows! As the most trusted ally of the Master, Sage-Sama’s famous name is already as familiar to me! Death! It’s just that without an order from the Master, Dekomori has never been able to make an appearance… Sage-Sama, I’ve always wanted to meet you, to see just how strong the entity who stand above Master truly is! Death!”

Dekomori Sanae’s eyes burned with an intensity akin to a fan meeting her idol.

“Sage-Sama’s reputation isn’t limited to the high school. Even in the middle school, his name is known, and I often hear people discussing Sage-Sama’s heroic deeds, Death!”

She explained the reason behind her reaction.

This awe was directed at Master, but it completely overshadowed him!

If not for the need to maintain her loyal image, she probably would have fallen to her knees and changed her greeting by now.

“I hope I haven’t disappointed you,” Hasegawa said with a faint smile.

Facing a potential Fellow Seeker, he revealed his softer side.

“Mm-hmm,” Dekomori Sanae nodded repeatedly, like a chick pecking for grain.

Though she couldn’t yet discern Sage-Sama’s true identity, his astonishing achievements weren’t mere rumor!

“Then, how’s it going over there?” Takanashi Rikka asked, joining the conversation now that introductions had been made.

“The battles have grown more intense, Death. Even I’ve been participating as much as possible, Death,” Dekomori Sanae responded, looking away.

“I’m sorry to trouble you with this trip, but we’re genuinely short-handed, so there’s no other option.”

Takanashi Rikka apologized.

What a considerate master!

“Of course not, Death. It’s my honor to fight alongside Master and Sage-Sama in this world, beyond the electronic sea!”

Dekomori Sanae had been eagerly awaiting this day, so naturally, she wasn’t the least bit annoyed.

“Then, what sort of task does Master have in mind for Dekomori?”

Her eyes glistened with anticipation.

“Well, you see, I’m sure you’ve heard about the Sage’s activities. In order to raise the Far Eastern Magic Society’s profile, we’re issuing ‘Club Challenges’ to various clubs. Our next opponent is the basketball team, but before that, we need to assemble a team of five, and you’re one of the members I’ve chosen.”

Takanashi Rikka explained the situation.

“I understand, Death. I won’t let you down!”

Dekomori Sanae swung her twin tails, which were essentially a pair of Meteor Hammer, as if ready to leap into action.

“But before that, let me confirm it: Are you qualified to be my master?! Takanashi Rikka — no, True Eye of the Evil King!”

“Affermative. Youre not worthy if my servant don’t have the ambition equal to mine, bring it on!”

Seeing that provocative smile, Takanashi Rikka responded with no discernible surprise, “As a superior, of course you must possess the power to subdue others.”

Otherwise, how could one expect to be trusted?

“What’s going on?” Hasegawa Izumi watched the two girls, who appeared to be on the verge of a fight, and felt rather baffled. Their relationship seemed somehow different from what he’d anticipated.

Still, this worked out well. He could view this as an assessment of a new recruit, and thus gain a better understanding of Dekomori’s capabilities. He had already determined that she was talented enough to join the Far Eastern Magic Society.

The fountain in the park spewed a fine spray of water into the air, glittering brilliantly under the splendid sunlight.

Not far away, two girls stood staring each other down, their hearts filled with trepidation.

One sought to prove her strength, to solidify her position as Master.

The other defied her superior, needing to reach a more accurate conclusion.

Both parties were ready to spring into action.

Takanashi Rikka spoke first. “Rupture, Reality!”

Dekomori Sanae echoed, “Synapse break!”

“Vanishment… this world!”

The moment Takanashi Rikka and Dekomori Sanae spoke in unison, they clashed for the first time.

Honestly, it wasn’t a great fight; in fact, it was rather mediocre.

Watching from Hasegawa Izumi’s perspective, the girls took turns swinging at each other, only to pull back when they were within striking distance.

For a moment, it resembled a dance routine, with the two circling each other, coming closer, retreating, and so on.

If a passerby happened upon the scene, they’d no doubt find it incredibly awkward, and they’d probably want to step in and say, “Hey, you guys, stop fighting.”

It wasn’t hard to understand why. In reality, Rikka had already lost her ability to draw on raw power, and it seemed that Sanae was in the same position.

But there was another way to look at it.

“They’ve synced their signals!”

Once Hasegawa Izumi realized this, his gaze sharpened, and everything changed.

This battle of wills actually looked like this:
