Hasegawa Izumi pondered the matter and came to a conclusion.
If he’d made her judgment call earlier, he would’ve attended the club introduction meeting to boost his reputation.
“Mm… Fame is one thing, but there’s another, more important reason,” Takanashi Rikka chimed in with her own analysis. “We haven’t demonstrated our true power yet, so of course they’re scared. They’re worried we won’t be able to protect them if the Administrative Bureau comes knocking.”
Then, the question became whether there was a way to gain reputation and show off their skills simultaneously.
As the two pondered, another Senpai approached them, dressed quite uniquely: a long black robe and a triangular hat, like a witch.
“Let me introduce myself first. I’m the president of the Occult Research Club, Atenbo Yume, second year. I’ve come today to invite the two of you to join our club, to explore the hidden secrets of this world. I believe that if we work together, we’ll be able to accomplish twice as much and open our eyes to a whole new world.”
Her smile, with her eyes closed, was quite amiable.
In anime, characters like this were often villains, the smiling tigers who turned deadly serious once their eyes opened.
But this was reality, not anime.
At least, Hasegawa Izumi didn’t sense any mysterious air from this senpai.
From the name of the club she’d mentioned, it seemed they were only trying to explain strange phenomena, not actually step through the gateway to the unknown.
“What are you talking about? The two of us are a powerful Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King and an omniscient Sage. There’s nothing mysterious about your world to us! We’re not interested in something so beneath us.”
Takanashi Rikka stood up and shot back at her, placing a hand over her forehead in cool gesture.
“Then what does Hasegawa-san think?”
Atenbou Yumemi smiled but didn’t answer, shifting her gaze to him.
“Rikka’s thoughts are my thoughts.”
His reply was blunt.
Since he’d already contracted with Rikka, he intended to stand by her side.
“That’s… unfortunate.”
Atenbou Yumemi sighed, disappointment clear on her face, then turned to leave.
“I hope there will come a day when I’ll see the two of you change your minds.”
She turned, leaving him with that last, impressive line.
For Hasegawa Izumi and Takanashi Rikka, this was just a minor interruption. Their goal remained focused on strengthening their club’s power.
Simply putting up posters wouldn’t do; no one cared about them. They’d have to try something more creative.
“I’ve got it,” Hasegawa Izumi finally concluded after much deliberation.
“Is there anything you can think of, Izumi?” Takanashi Rikka asked, leaning in close.
“Have you heard of Club Challenges?” he countered.
“Club Challenges? You mean like challenging a club to battle?” Takanashi Rikka guessed, understanding the concept immediately.
“Sure, you can put it that way. I plan to challenge those clubs.”
He nodded, his smile growing brighter and more radiant.
“That’s a good idea. By defeating them in a fair match, we can not only raise our club’s profile, but also demonstrate our club’s strength.”
The girl was convinced of the feasibility of the idea.
As for whether they’d actually win, that wasn’t even within the purview of these two.
Each was more confident than the other: one in others, the other in himself.
“Then let’s draft a plan for our Club Challenge.”
Hasegawa Izumi didn’t rush into action, preferring instead to make a plan.
There was a method to the Far Eastern Magic Society’s plan to take over Shuchi’in Academy, becoming the number one club. A truly excellent story always built from the ground up, after all, and only by laying the groundwork could they achieve the most explosive climax, leaving no room for argument!
“First, we’ll eliminate the anime club, which is at the very bottom of the list. Challenging them would be a total waste of time; no one cares about them.”
He produced a list of all the school’s clubs, deleted the last one, and tossed it aside.
As a strong leader, one must possess wisdom, fundamental ability, and combat prowess.
“Let’s start with the Go club; it seems respectable enough.”
After evaluating his options, he chose Go as the first stepping stone.
“Then let’s go challenge them right now! I think the Go club’s room is somewhere nearby.”
Takanashi Rikka was already fired up.
To crush the entirety of Shuchi’in Academy underfoot—what a magnificent feat that would be, if they could manage it!
“No, before we challenge them, we have two more things to do.” He held up two fingers. “First, we’ll deliver a challenge letter so they can prepare ahead of time. That way, they won’t claim we unfairly won by having an unfair advantage.”
This would ensure their defeat was convincing.
“Second, we need to get the word out. We’ll use the mass media club to spread the word to the entire school. Only then will it cause a real stir!”
A challenge with no witnesses would be invalid.
“Sage wisdom truly runs unfathomably deep. To devise such a thorough plan in mere moments is truly astonishing,” Takanashi Rikka couldn’t help but compliment him again.
“Let’s get going, then.”
He grinned, looked up at the activity building before them, and, deep within his eyes, a trace of fervor appeared.
