“Ugh! The nerve of this guy! Who does he think I am?! How dare he say something like that to me!”

The blonde twintail girl in the room sat stewing in anger, cursing under her breath. Being ridiculed by someone so openly as the Sawamura family’s young lady felt utterly humiliating. If not for their status as childhood friends, she would have long since ceased interacting with this obnoxious person.

“Want to keep playing, Eriri?”

From her headphones came Hasegawa Izumi’s voice, as calm as if nothing were the matter.

“Of course not!” Why would she subject herself to more humiliation? Instead, they found a new cooperative game to play, and it was early morning before they finished.

“What happened after that, though? Did you get completely ostracized?” Eriri suddenly asked.

“What do you mean, ‘did I get completely ostracized’? More like ‘I ostracized everyone else,’ thank you very much.”

His retort only made her think he was being stubborn. She couldn’t immediately think of any comforting words, either. After all, Izumi had come to Shuchi’in at her request.

Then, his childhood friend continued, “But it’s not so bad. I’ve gained another ally, and I’ve also been reunited with another comrade after a long time apart. It’s great that I could come to Shuchi’in High School and take your advice, Eriri.”

“What?! Male or female?” Eriri’s expression instantly changed.

“As fellow travelers, gender isn’t important.”

“Give me an answer, already!”

“Both are female. One is a Wielder of True Eye of the Evil King, and the other is a mage.”

The call abruptly ended.

All that remained in the room was the sound of someone grinding their teeth.

Letting Izumi transfer to Shuchi’in was the worst decision ever!

———

It was Monday, and a gentle spring breeze blew by.

Hasegawa Izumi stepped out of the train station, heading straight for Shuchi’in High School.

Today was an exciting day.

As of today, their Far Eastern Magic Society would officially begin recruiting members.

How many talented individuals would be able to enter another world?

“I’m looking forward to it,” he murmured, a faint smile tugging at his lips as the speed at which he spun the books in his hands increased along with his mood.

“Wow, Sage, you’re amazing!” Takanashi Rikka stared at the books spinning like a ceiling fan, wide-eyed.

So, she tried it herself, but the moment she pushed down with her finger, the math book flew off.

Hasegawa Izumi reached out and caught it before it could smack into him.

“Uh-heh-heh.” Takanashi Rikka was embarrassed. “This skill is a bit harder than I thought.”

“Allow me to teach you,” he said, tossing her book back and demonstrating as he explained. “Place your index finger against the center of gravity as a pivot, and then use your other fingers to spin the book. Your finger doesn’t stay fixed on the center of gravity; instead, it moves around it, following the direction of rotation…”

“I see! As long as I get the direction of gravity right, I can do it!”

Gradually, Takanashi Rikka mastered the technique, and the book spun longer and longer.

The pair drew quite a bit of attention, considering they were surrounded by “good students” who’d never seen anyone play like this. For a moment, everyone was tempted.

Still, no one else tried. After all, wouldn’t mimicking the Impure students make them their followers?

“I want to play too!” Fujiwara Chika was the only one undeterred by that concern, and she eagerly gave it a go.

“Oh? It’s that hard?”

Suddenly, the book in her hands flew into the air, and the girl’s face froze.

“Izumi-chan, teach me!”

She turned to seek help, and soon, everyone else lost their reservations and began trying it for themselves.

For some reason, a trend had begun in their class.

……
…
..

The activity building, located at the center of campus, was where all the clubs set up their recruitment booths. The first few weeks of school were typically the peak time for clubs to sign up new members, so the area was packed and noisy.

“Are you interested in soccer? Our club’s popularity is unmatched at Shuchi’in, especially the soccer team.”

“C’mere, c’mere, anyone interested in joining the judo club? Newbies can get one-on-one lessons from beautiful senpai, so hurry up and sign up!”

“The Tabletop Gaming Club is recruiting! If you want to play more fun games, then come join us!”

Amidst this lively scene, one booth stood alone in a corner, completely ignored.

“Wait, what’s this? Not a single person who admires my reputation? Maybe I’ve been wasting my time?”

Hasegawa Izumi rested her chin on her crossed fingers, looking perplexed.

“Could it be that no one else has reached our level of enlightenment? Or are they just afraid to believe?”

On a seat beside her, Takanashi Rikka frowned slightly.

“Maybe they’re still undecided, not quite ready to commit?”

After pondering the matter, Hasegawa Izumi hung a banner behind their table, making it more eye-catching.

Suddenly, a pair of footsteps paused in front of them, drawn by the words on their banner.

“Want to understand the meaning of life? Want to truly live? Far Eastern Magic Society? How interesting. It feels like it could be a character in a novel… Huh, could it be that you’re the famous new student with Chuunibyou?”

Only then did the beautiful black-stockinged girl turn to look with interest at the person in front of her.

“Are you interested in joining our club?” Hasegawa Izumi lifted her head and asked, neither confirming nor denying her interest.

“I’m not, for now,” the girl replied, quickly turning to leave.

Soon after, a frail-looking boy lacking in yang energy approached them.

“Students, are you interested in joining our anime and manga club? I think you two would fit in better with us than any other club, and I’m sure we’d have a lot in common,” he said, trying his best to entice them.

Someone’s actually trying to poach members? Hasegawa Izumi blinked, then shook her head silently.

The boy left, disappointed.

Time pass and now its Wednesday.

They had no success recruiting members. Not only were there virtually no inquiries, there were no applications either.

“Why is this happening? The door to the new world has already opened; they should be falling over themselves to join.”

Takanashi Rikka frowned, unable to comprehend the situation.
