The Omnipotent Super Chuunibyou - Chapter 10
The weekend after the first week of school.
Hasegawa Izumi stayed home, not going anywhere.
“Food is ready, Kobato.”
After finishing cooking for lunch, he turned to call to his sister, who was watching TV in the living room.
He had made fried noodles, the noodles chewy and resilient, with crunchy vegetables and bits of meat. The aroma was enticing, enough to make anyone drool.
Though he hadn’t put a lot of thought into it, his cooking skills had improved significantly, and it was still delicious.
“Delicious, as always. Lately, the sacrifices offered by My Other Half have been getting better and better.”
Kobato used her fork and spoon to put a small portion of the fried noodles into her mouth, along with the spicy-savory sauce, and was immediately satisfied.
“But isn’t something missing?” she asked, looking at him.
“Wait a moment.”
Hasegawa Izumi got up and went to the kitchen. He took a tomato out of the refrigerator, juiced it, then poured it into a stemmed glass and brought it over to his sister.
“Excellent,” Kobato said approvingly, her expression content.
After taking a sip of the tomato juice, she swirled the glass and added, “The blood of a virgin truly is this delicious.”
“It’s just tomato juice,” he replied with a smile.
Her blood had not yet fully awakened, and she had not yet become a Blood Primogenitor, so naturally, he could only offer her tomato juice to satisfy her needs.
After dinner, Kobato returned to watching TV.
Once he finished washing the dishes, he sat down on the sofa next to her.
The anime Kurogane no Necromancer was playing on the screen. This was the show that had inspired Kobato’s worldview, and she used one of its characters, Leylis Vi Felicity Sumeragi, as her role model.
Indeed, the path Kobato had chosen was role-playing. Though her potential in it was limited for now, once she mastered the basics, she would be able to develop formidable battle prowess quickly.
However, it was difficult to say when exactly she would achieve success.
To wield power without having the mental fortitude to control it was exceedingly dangerous.
In his eyes, his little sister still wasn’t mature enough.
That was why he waited, for the true day of awakening, which had yet to arrive.
“You’re a tough one, Leylis Vi Felicity Sumeragi! You haven’t even died from that attack, as expected of a true ancestor vampire.”
“The ones who are truly tough are you Mahou Shoujo, you really hard to kill like cockroaches. No matter how strong the attack, you always manage to survive… I’m getting tired of this battle.”
“Too bad for you, you’ll have to keep fighting until one of us falls.”
“It will be you who falls. I am the king of vampires, the creator of darkness, and those who oppose me merely seek their own deaths!”
On the screen, after a brief interlude, the True Ancestor Vampire and several Mahou Shoujo resumed their fierce battle, magical energies intertwining in a dazzling spectacle.
“Hah…”
At that moment, Hasegawa Izumi lazily yawned.
“What a boring fight. If this were real, the blood blade just now would’ve decapitated the Mahou Shoujo charging in the front. No sense of shock at all. Isn’t just a kids’ cartoon?”
“right? Kobato.”
He turned to his little sister for her thoughts.
“Huh? Decapitate… decapitate her head?”
Kobato paled, her voice trembling, as if she couldn’t even imagine such a scene.
In his eyes, this was a sign that his little sister was still immature.
Combat was no child’s play!
Mami-senpai had demonstrated this truth with her own actions.
Ah, but Kobato is still so young. She still needs to grow.
He silently turned back to the TV.
That night.
“Kobato, don’t stay up too late watching TV. You’re still growing, after all.”
“Kukukuk, I’m naturally nocturnal. The night only serves to bolster my strength.”
“Okay then.”
After getting out of the bath, Hasegawa Izumi changed into his pajamas and urged his little sister, who was still watching TV, to go to bed, then returned to his room.
He walked over to his desk, turned on his computer, and logged into his social media account.
In almost the exact same instant, he received a voice chat invitation.
“Get a move on, get a move on! Get in the game, my time’s super precious! I’m gonna beat you so bad today, you’re gonna cry so hard!”
As soon as he accepted, Eriri’s impatient voice came through his headphones.
Today, they’d planned to play a newly released fighting game against each other.
“You sure you can handle this?”
Hasegawa Izumi found the whole thing hilarious. In all the games he’d played with Eriri, she’d won a pitifully small number of times. Every time she cried about wanting to get revenge, she was soundly humiliated. Truly, she was awful but loved to play.
“Why don’t you just try it and see for yourself?”
Rather than stubbornly insisting, Eriri opted to prove her worth through skill. Could it be that she had some secret plan?
Though Izumi wondered where her confidence was coming from, he wasn’t the least bit scared. He accepted Eriri’s invitation, and they began their match.
The battle format was classic 3v3. Eriri picked three characters without hesitation, while Izumi chose three at random.
Eriri’s characters attacked as soon as the first round began. Judging by the state of the battlefield, she was utterly dominating.
“See? This is my true power! Izumi, why don’t you take a good look at the gap between us?”
Eriri’s voice brimmed with pride, and her smile was dazzlingly bright.
“You’ve definitely been secretly practicing, haven’t you?” Izumi chuckled.
“Absolutely not! I’m just naturally talented. What, you don’t believe me?”
Eriri immediately denied it.
You learned from Chika, didn’t you? Izumi mentally roasted her. Seeing as the health bars of the characters he controlled were already depleted, he remained unfazed.
“Ready, Eriri? I’m going to start!”
“What?” Eriri had no time to scoff, as the scene immediately took a shocking turn. Her character was instantly bombarded with a flurry of attacks, and her health bar drained to zero in no time.
She fell silent, focusing fully on the controls, but she was defeated twice in a row, unable to fight back.
No way, is Izumi really this strong? And besides, this game just came out today! She’s been playing it all day in order to win, and she still lost? And by such a huge margin?!
“I refuse to believe this!” Eriri couldn’t help but question her defeat. “Izumi, are you cheating?!”
“Why would you ask that?”
“This game just came out today, so you’ve only had about as much time as me to play it. There’s no way you could be this good!”
“Did you know, Eriri…Yhwach was sealed away for 900 years, during which he regained his heartbeat; then 90 years passed before he regained consciousness; then nine years before he regained his strength; and nine days before he regained the world… What do you think this means?”
“I’ve already broken the seal, so things are different now.”
“I don’t believe you!”
“That’s your choice. If you insist on denying it, then I’ll be blunt.” He paused, then continued, his voice deepening: “If you’re bad at something, practice more. If you can’t handle defeat, then don’t play.”
