The Mystic Lucky Baby is Five and a Half Years Old - Chapter 4
Yu Shanhe carefully and quietly pushed open his daughter’s bedroom door.
At that moment, Niannian had just fallen asleep. Hearing the faint sound at the door, she forced her drowsy eyes open.
Her eyes, dark and shiny like black obsidian, were hazy with sleep, the corners still glimmering with tiny tears from yawning too much. Her small pink lips parted slightly, her fair cheeks tinged with a soft blush.
She looked irresistibly adorable.
And that was exactly what Yu Shanhe saw when he entered, his daughter’s overwhelming cuteness. The proud father’s heart melted instantly.
“Sweetheart, did Daddy wake you up? I’m so sorry…” Snapping out of his daze from how soft and precious she looked, Yu Shanhe suddenly realized he might have made a mistake, he’d disturbed her sleep.
He froze awkwardly at the doorway.
The tall, refined, usually commanding CEO who could call the shots at his company now looked completely lost, like a child who’d done something wrong. As if he were the one being scolded by his parent, who happened to be his five-year-old daughter.
“No, I’m not really sleepy. Daddy didn’t wake me up.” Niannian smacked her lips twice, sensing her father’s low mood, forced her eyes open wider so she could look more awake.
Hmm… she could feel that Daddy really likes her a lot, and she really likes Daddy too. So she had to cheer him up, she couldn’t let him stay sad.
Seeing her trying so hard to keep her eyes open, Yu Shanhe immediately knew she was pretending. A warm wave of affection washed over him, followed by a pang of guilt.
Sigh… She just came home today, and I didn’t even spend much time with her. Instead, I got so caught up in my excitement that I lost track of time and even disturbed her sleep.
“Daddy, did you… run into something?” Once her eyes had adjusted, Niannian could see her father more clearly and noticed something odd.
The golden light of protection she had imbued into the safety talisman she gave him earlier, was gone. That meant the charm had already been used up, which meant something had definitely happened to Daddy.
Her question snapped Yu Shanhe out of his thoughts.
Downstairs, Yu Sheng had just caught up, hurrying after his father, intent on tattling. But before he could step inside, Yu Shanhe had already entered Niannian’s room and closed the door firmly behind him.
The door nearly hit Yu Sheng in the face, leaving him stunned. When he tried to open it, he found it locked from the inside. He stood there fuming, face dark with frustration, before finally stomping away.
Yu Shanhe hadn’t even noticed his son. And even if he had, he wouldn’t have cared, right now, his world revolved entirely around Niannian.
Everyone else could wait.
He walked to her bedside, pulled over a chair, and sat down gently. “Niannian, sweetheart, do you still have that charm you gave Daddy earlier? Could you give Daddy another one?”
He didn’t tell her about what had happened at the office, the terrifying ghost he’d seen. The memory alone made his skin crawl. Even as a grown man, he still felt goosebumps thinking about it.
There was no way he could tell his little girl about something so frightening in the middle of the night. He’d only scare her. All he wanted was another talisman. With that, he wouldn’t have to be afraid anymore.
“I do, Daddy! I have lots and lots! But… if you only use the charm, it’ll just treat the symptoms, not the root cause. You have to find what’s trying to hurt you, otherwise, something like tonight might happen again.”
Even if Yu Shanhe hadn’t said a word, Niannian already knew what had happened.
In fact, before he’d even left the house that morning, she’d seen it, her father was destined to encounter a bloody disaster. If things had gone badly, he might have died. That was why she had insisted on giving him a protection charm before he left.
She thought that once he made it through the night safely, his misfortune would pass.
But looking at him now, his forehead still darkened with ominous shadows, faint traces of deathly energy lingering around him, it was clear the danger wasn’t over. Something could still happen to him at any time.
“Sweetheart… how do you know what happened to Daddy today?” Yu Shanhe was startled by how directly her words seemed to hit the mark.
“I know! Daddy met a super bad, super dirty thing today! It tried to hurt Daddy to make Daddy die! But don’t worry, that bad thing’s already gone! Its soul’s been scattered!” Niannian puffed up her chest proudly as she explained, recounting everything she had seen as if she’d been there herself.
Yu Shanhe was astonished. How could she describe it so clearly? “How did my baby know all that?”
“I calculated it! It’s really easy, actually, it’s just basic stuff for a Taoist priest!” Niannian said it so matter-of-factly that Yu Shanhe could hardly believe his ears.
He’d met plenty of so-called masters before.
Anyone in business learned to pay some attention to feng shui and fortune, especially in real estate. Choosing the right site, starting construction on an auspicious date, those always involved consulting a geomancer.
But all those “masters” he’d met were vague and evasive. Even the ones he personally trusted had told him that sometimes, it wasn’t that they wanted to be mysterious, it was that their abilities could only reveal so much.
Even when predicting someone’s past, they could only point to something that had happened, not exactly what had happened. Only those with truly deep cultivation could be that precise.
And his little girl had been exactly that precise. How could he not be shocked?
“Daddy doesn’t have to be scared! I’m a Taoist priest! I can chase away those bad, dirty things and I can help Daddy get through all his troubles too!” Niannian thought her father’s silence meant he was still frightened by what happened tonight.
She hurried to comfort him.
Her master had told her, ordinary people usually couldn’t handle seeing ghosts for the first time. Some even went a little crazy from the shock. As a Taoist, her job wasn’t just to banish evil and protect others, it was also to ease their fears and make them feel safe.
“Daddy’s not scared,” Yu Shanhe chuckled, eyes soft. “Daddy’s just… surprised. I didn’t expect my little girl to be so amazing.” Hearing her tiny, gentle voice and seeing her serious expression as she patted her chest like a brave little protector, Yu Shanhe felt all the fear he’d had earlier melt away.
All that remained was pride and love.
“That’s right! My master says I’m super talented! He’s never seen a disciple with better potential than me! Even my senior brothers can’t beat me!”
When praised, Niannian showed not a hint of false modesty. She wasn’t the type to pretend to be humble, especially when she was simply telling the truth.
She tilted her small chin upward, her bright eyes sparkling like stars, her tiny face glowing with confidence and pride. It wasn’t arrogance, it was pure, radiant self-assurance, the kind that made her even more endearing.
Yu Shanhe couldn’t help but smile, pride swelling in his chest.
“My baby really is the best. So, sweetheart, if you say we need to fix the root cause… how do we do that?”
