Niannian didn’t care about the looks everyone was giving her.

She had already confirmed that her bad sister had a few screws loose, she just wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

Her Fourth Senior Brother had said it before, “When someone’s brain is broken, it’s best to stay away from them.”

People like that make mistakes and never take responsibility. Something about… a “lunatic protection card”? Yes, that was exactly how Fourth Senior Brother put it.

Niannian wanted to walk straight out, but Zhao Tang’s little gang clearly had other plans.

A chubby boy took a few quick steps and blocked her path. He grinned foolishly and said, “Hey, little sister, you’re so cute! I wanna be friends with you!”

As he spoke, he reached out to pinch her cheek.

Good thing he was still young, if he were older, that kind of move would’ve gotten him punched for being a creep.

Niannian instinctively disliked the aura coming from him. She shifted sideways lightly, and his hand brushed nothing but air.

The chubby boy frowned, unhappy. “Why’d you dodge me? You should be honored! If you’re friends with me, no other kids will dare to bully you. You’d have so much face!”

“I don’t want to be friends with people who bully small animals.” Niannian had felt something dark around him, so she quietly pinched her fingers into a hand seal and calculated.

Sure enough, his body carried a heavy burden of karmic blood debt and resentful spirits. And they were all from animals. He was about her age, so he couldn’t possibly be a butcher.

That left only one explanation, he was cruel and mean-spirited by nature.

“W–what are you talking about? What bullying small animals?” The chubby boy’s eyes flickered with guilt. The way he looked at Niannian changed, the earlier admiration was gone, replaced with wariness and unease.

“Are you stupid? You can’t even remember the things you’ve done?” Heaven knew that Niannian didn’t mean that as an insult.

She was simply stating the truth, that people of the same kind naturally flocked together. A single glance around the room, and she’d already taken in the faces of all the children here.

Not one of them had good temperaments.

Remembering Zhao Tang’s crazy behavior, and now hearing this boy deny his own actions, Niannian simply assumed he was like her bad sister, another brain-damaged fool.

But to everyone else’s ears, her words sounded like pure provocation.

“Zhao Tang, who’s this little brat? A relative of yours?” The chubby boy’s eyes darted around the empty villa, not a single adult in sight. His cowardice turned to boldness.

He wasn’t stupid, though. In this social circle, you had to pick your battles wisely, some people you could afford to mess with, others you couldn’t. So he first asked Zhao Tang what Niannian’s identity was.

“Kind of. Just a country bumpkin who came from the sticks. Look at those clothes of hers, she looks so pitiful that people might think our Yu family’s abusing her.”

They were playmates, after all, and Zhao Tang knew the chubby boy’s temperament well.

He was the little tyrant of both the neighborhood and the kindergarten, using his big body and wealthy family as a shield. Whenever he saw a weaker kid he didn’t like, he’d just go over and beat them up.

He didn’t care if they were boys or girls. Most of the kids at kindergarten had been beaten to tears by him at least once. Calling his parents never helped, they were fiercely protective, never scolding him, only worrying whether he got hurt in the fights.

Most other parents didn’t want trouble, especially if there were business ties, so they just dismissed it as “kids being kids.”

Knowing exactly what kind of person he was, Zhao Tang deliberately hid the fact that Niannian was the Yu family’s biological daughter.

The Yu Family hadn’t made any public announcement about finding their lost child anyway. The adults didn’t know and naturally, the children didn’t either. So Zhao Tang just labeled her as “some bumpkin from the countryside” to mislead him, hoping the chubby boy would “teach her a lesson.”

And sure enough, things went exactly as she hoped. The boy latched onto the key phrase, from the countryside. Whatever restraint he’d been holding onto evaporated instantly. He didn’t even bother pretending anymore.

“Hah! You dirty little hick! This Young Master tried to be friends with you, and you dare act like you’re too good for me?”

Who knew where kids these days picked up such disgusting phrases. Life at the Daoist temple had been so peaceful, even the local village children were kind and simple.

She’d never heard words like that from their mouths. Niannian was dumbfounded. She couldn’t understand how these children, surrounded by high-tech gadgets and internet media, could be so foul-mouthed.

It wasn’t until the chubby boy reached toward her again that she snapped back to her senses.

His pudgy little hand came straight for the top of her head clearly aiming for her hair bun. Seeing Niannian stand there dazed after just a few words, he thought she was scared stiff. A smug grin spread across his face. But what happened next stunned him.

Niannian moved, light and swift as a loach slipping through water. He didn’t even touch a single hair on her head. Instead, his own momentum carried him forward uncontrollably, and he crashed headfirst into the wall behind her.

With a loud thud, a big bump swelled on his forehead, his vision went black, and he nearly fainted from the impact. That’s how much force he’d used. If it had been an ordinary child in her place, one hit from a body that size could’ve caused real injury.

“Why did you try to hit me?” Niannian was bewildered, truly bewildered. She had just come down to get a drink of water, and suddenly people were trying to fight her?

The chubby boy groaned, clutching his head, dizzy and nauseous. And hearing her innocent tone only made him angrier. “Me, the undefeated terror of the kindergarten and neighborhood, had actually been dodged by a little girl? I’ve lost both face and pride!”

“What are you all standing there for? Get over here and hold her down! I’m teaching her a lesson today!” The chubby boy was fuming. If a one-on-one failed, then it was time for a group attack. He yelled for his friends to join in.

Zhao Tang stayed where she was, quietly watching. The other kids exchanged uncertain glances then reluctantly moved toward Niannian. Zhao Tang just wanted to stay on good terms with the chubby tyrant; they were two peas in a pod.

The others were mostly children whose families did business with his, their parents had told them to get along, so they had no choice but to follow.

And bullying a smaller girl? It wasn’t their first time. They didn’t feel the slightest guilt.

Niannian frowned as the three children surrounded her.

“So they really wanted to fight? Fine then, if that’s what they wanted, I could oblige.”
