The old father didn’t doubt his little girl’s words for a second. He asked his secretary to call the employees back to their desks, then had Yan Li brought into his office.

Yan Li had no idea what else Yu Shanhe wanted from her. At first, she hesitated and didn’t want to go. But when the secretary said firmly that they suspected she was taking company secrets with her, she finally gave in.

She’s already on the verge of being kicked out, she couldn’t afford to get slapped with an accusation of stealing secrets. That kind of thing could land her in jail.

When she entered Yu Shanhe’s office, she no longer looked afraid. After all, he wasn’t her boss anymore. She didn’t bother to hide her resentment and annoyance.

“Boss Yu, what else do you want from me?” She snapped.

Yu Shanhe didn’t respond. To him, she’s nothing more than a petty clown, an insect in late autumn, soon to die.

“Baby, do you see anything?” He asked, looking down at the little dumpling in his arms.

Right now, the little one’s staring intently at Yan Li, her clear eyes seemingly able to see right through her.

Yan Li felt a chill run down her spine under that gaze. Her whole body felt uneasy, and she found herself disliking Niannian even more.

After a long pause, Niannian turned her gaze away, wriggled a bit, and said to her father, “Daddy, put me down.”

Yu Shanhe didn’t understand why, but he still let her down.

Once her feet hit the floor, Niannian walked straight up to Supervisor Yan without another word and grabbed her sleeve.

There was a ripping sound. The next second, Niannian tore off the entire right sleeve clean.

“Ah!” Everyone was stunned.

Even Yan Li, who had been wary, was caught completely off guard. She shrieked and instinctively swung a hand to slap the child.

Yu Shanhe shot up from his chair in panic. But the little dumpling simply took two small steps back and easily dodged the slap.

“Boss Yu, what the hell is this?!” Yan Li shouted furiously. “Even if I said something about your daughter before, does that give this brat the right to humiliate me like this?!” She was livid, glaring at Yu Shanhe with wide eyes, demanding an explanation.

Yu Shanhe awkwardly rubbed his nose.

Well… Yeah, that move from his daughter was a little inappropriate. But, it didn’t matter. If his daughter did it, she must have had a reason.

“Miss Yan, no need to get upset. I’ll have my assistant buy you a new shirt later. For now, let’s hear what my daughter has to say.”

Yu Shanhe was every bit the overprotective dad, the kind of man who, even if his kid was a little menace, would still back her to the end.

Fuming but helpless, Yan Li sat back down.

“Auntie,” Niannian asked curiously, “when did you get that tattoo?”  She wasn’t interested in the grown-ups’ argument, her attention was fully on the tattoo revealed on Yan Li’s arm.

It was a strange design: a red line running from the top of her arm down to her elbow, cutting through a pattern that looked both elegant and sinister. Up close, the pattern was made up of countless tiny characters.

They weren’t from any known language or ancient script. To anyone else, they’d just look mysterious and decorative. But Niannian recognized them. They were spell symbols from the witchcraft clans of southern Xinjiang.

After glancing through them, she was certain, it was a curse. A curse cast through a tattoo on a living body.

How rare and unusual.

“What’s it to you?” Yan Li snapped, rolling her eyes. She instinctively covered her arm, blocking Niannian’s view.

“Oh, never mind,” Niannian said cheerfully. “Since Auntie doesn’t want to talk about it, I’ll just break it directly.”

She was just curious about the tattoo’s origin. After all, there was no way Yan Li herself was someone from the mystical world.

Once the curse was lifted, its backlash would fall on the person who cast it, but in this case, the tattoo had been enchanted so that the backlash would also hit Yan Li herself.

Of course, the little dumpling didn’t think that deeply. In her mind, Auntie had brought a curse into Daddy’s company, messing with his luck and refusing to say where it came from, so she must be hiding something bad.

Her Master always said, ‘A person who’s done no wrong has nothing to hide.’ If she was hiding something, then she was guilty. And if she insisted on covering for the one who cursed her, then the consequences she suffered were her own doing.

Niannian didn’t even consider other explanations like manipulation or bribery. She was just a child, one who didn’t do “schemes.”

Yan Li didn’t understand a word of what Niannian was mumbling about. She really had gotten the tattoo on someone’s instruction, in exchange for a fat payment.

She’d never known what it actually did. And to avoid being seen, she’d always worn long sleeves, even in summer.

“You’re crazy,” she spat, glaring at the little dumpling as she stood up to leave.

To hell with this company, she wasn’t staying another second.

Niannian didn’t stop her. Neither did Yu Shanhe.

The little girl pulled a miniature peachwood sword from her small bag and picked up a strand of hair from Yan Li that had fallen on the chair, wrapping it around the blade. Then she pressed two fingers together, closed her eyes, and murmured an incantation.

Yu Shanhe was stunned all over again. That bag, she never went anywhere without it, not even to sleep. He’d always thought it had sentimental value. But now, was it actually some kind of magical treasure?!

The peachwood sword, though small, was still about half a meter long. How had she fit that into a little schoolbag? Was it… a spatial pouch? A magic item? Or…

While Yu Shanhe was still staring at the bag in amazement, flames suddenly burst to life on the sword. Not ordinary red flames, but golden ones.

Just as Yan Li reached for the doorknob, Niannian flicked her wrist, tracing a graceful arc in the air with her sword.

Yan Li let out a bloodcurdling scream and collapsed, convulsing violently, foam spilling from her mouth, like she was having a seizure.

At the same time, black smoke began seeping out of the tattoo on her arm. The smoke quickly gathered into a shadowy figure and lunged straight at Niannian.

Yu Shanhe’s instincts screamed danger. It reminded him of that terrifying ghost he’d seen that night, he wanted to rush forward to protect his daughter.

But the truth’s clear, his little girl’s way too strong.

All he could do was stand there as the man behind her. With a calm and fearless expression, Niannian swung her sword in a clean arc and with one swift slash, the shadow split in two and vanished into nothingness.

Yu Shanhe stared at her small back in awe. For a moment, he felt like he was watching a hidden master, a hero from the legends.

Tsk… His daughter was so cool. Cooler than her dad. What was he supposed to do about that?

Asking for advice, pretty urgent.
