When she heard she was being fired, the nanny froze in disbelief.

Yesterday, when Niannian returned home, the nanny happened to be on leave. She’d heard that the Yu family’s long-lost biological daughter had been found and brought home just the day before.

This morning, when she came back, she’d even thought about how to win over this new “little miss,” so she deliberately prepared a lavish breakfast.

But when she saw that Yu Shanhe had gone out early, and both Yu Sheng and Zhao Tang clearly looked displeased with the little girl, her attitude changed instantly.

What was the point of flattering a child no one favored?

It was obvious that the most pampered young lady of the Yu family, Miss Tangtang, disliked this newly found daughter.

Given how spoiled Miss Tangtang had always been at home, the nanny figured she ought to do something to curry favor with her, which led to this morning’s “incident.”

But things had spiraled far beyond her expectations. This little girl who had been brought back didn’t seem as unloved as she thought.

From the moment Yu Shanhe walked in the door, he’d been holding the child protectively in his arms, clearly cherishing her deeply.

The nanny’s mind raced, realizing she’d overstepped and made a serious mistake. She hurried to apologize, trying to earn forgiveness.

“Sir, I really didn’t mean it! I didn’t notice the little miss ran out, I was just busy fixing her another breakfast. I’ve got a sick daughter at home, you know that. She’s bedridden all year, and I’m the only one working. If I lose this job, we’ll have no way to survive. Please, sir, have mercy. You have a daughter too, you should understand. I really can’t afford to lose this job. Please forgive me, just this once!”

Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed pitifully. Yu Shanhe’s expression wavered slightly at her words.

He had met the nanny’s daughter before, a clever, bright little girl. Only ten years old, but already frail and confined to bed by illness.

He had never asked what sickness she had, but seeing her pale and weak in a wheelchair had always made him feel sorry for her.

Firing the nanny wouldn’t make it impossible for her to find another job, but she would struggle to find one as well-paying and comfortable as working for the Yu family.

Yu Shanhe had built his company from nothing; he knew how hard it was to make a living. The nanny had worked for them for over four years and hadn’t made any other mistakes before. He didn’t want to be too ruthless.

Still, he couldn’t allow someone like her to keep caring for his daughter.

After some thought, he decided he would pay her extra severance, and help her through the transition. That way, they could part on decent terms.

But before he could even open his mouth, the little dumpling in his arms piped up in her crisp, sweet voice, “Auntie, from your face, I can see that you’ll have no children in this lifetime. In fact, your family line was severed this morning. That means your daughter passed away earlier today. Since she’s already gone, why would you still need to raise her?”

Niannian’s words dropped into the room like a thunderclap. Silence fell, so quiet a pin could be heard dropping.

The first to react was, of course, the nanny. Her eyes flashed with fury, but she quickly forced on a sorrowful expression.

“Little miss, it’s my fault I didn’t make your breakfast or watch you properly today. But what does that have to do with my daughter? How could you say something like that? She’s my only child, how could you curse her to die!?”

Yu Sheng, who had been silently watching the drama unfold, suddenly looked unsettled. When he first heard that the nanny had refused to feed Niannian and let her wander off alone, he’d been angry too.

He didn’t particularly like this new sister, that’s true, but blood was blood.

If he had to choose between his two sisters, he would, without hesitation, side with Zhao Tang, after all, she was the one he’d lived with under the same roof for over four years.

But against outsiders, of course, he would protect his biological sister. Just now, he’d even been about to say they should fire the nanny.

But now… “That’s going too far,” he said sternly. “The nanny made a mistake, sure, but we can just dismiss her. There’s no need to curse her child. I know you didn’t get much education back in the countryside, but at least you should understand basic decency. Hurry and apologize to her.”

Putting on the airs of an older brother, Yu Sheng lectured her in a self-righteous tone.

Niannian blinked her wide eyes, her little head tilting in confusion, then a light seemed to go on in her mind. “Ah? Auntie, you meant me when you said ‘little miss’? And what happened this morning was about me? But I didn’t do anything you said I did!”

“Oh! I get it now! You’re the kind of person my third senior brother talks about, someone who twists right and wrong, stirs up trouble… what’s the word… Oh! Right, shameless!”

The little dumpling’s face was all innocence, but her words almost made the nanny cough up blood.

Working for an upper-class family, she was used to dealing with well-mannered people. Even when they were angry, they never spoke so bluntly. But the worst part was, Niannian didn’t even sound angry.

She was simply stating facts, in her soft, earnest little voice. That made it so much worse.

The nanny’s lips trembled, should she just throw her dignity aside and curse back?

Before she could decide, Niannian’s next words completely shattered her composure. “Shameless Auntie, I didn’t curse your daughter. To cast a curse, you have to know someone’s birth date and time. I don’t even know your daughter, or when she was born, so I couldn’t curse her even if I wanted to.”

“Besides, Shameless Auntie, you’re the one who killed her. You hit her, scolded her, starved her. Even when she got sick or injured, you never treated her. Let me check again…”

The little dumpling frowned, chubby hands forming seals as she counted softly.

After a moment, she opened her innocent round eyes again and said gently, “Shameless Auntie, your daughter died from pain. You hit her this morning and broke her kidney.”

Yu Shanhe’s worldview shattered. Of everyone present, who believed the little dumpling the most?

Of course, her silly father.

After the ghost incident at the office, no one believed more than him that his daughter was a real little Taoist priestess. He didn’t doubt a single word she said.

Turning his gaze back to the nanny, Yu Shanhe’s eyes grew colder and colder. He hadn’t expected there to be such a criminal under his own roof.

To think she could be that cruel to her own child.

Just what kind of monsters had he been keeping around all these years!?
