- Chapter 8 - My Only Joy In Life is Falling in Love
Truly asking for trouble.
Cheng Muye exhaled quietly, reminding herself, It’s fine… Tang Anhe is just being foolish. No need to waste energy on a silly girl.
Unaware that she was testing Cheng Muye’s patience, Tang Anhe smiled brightly while waiting for the elevator and asked, “Hey, Brother Cheng, do you have a cute older brother? If not, a younger one works too. I don’t care about age; as long as he matches my type, I’ll accept anyone.”
Cheng Muye felt her simmering anger spike again and snorted sarcastically: “I see, you’re quite liberal in your affections.”
Tang Anhe laughed, her excitement practically radiating off her. “Of course! My only joy in life is falling in love.”
“Then you’re done for.”
“Huh?”
“My only joy is not falling in love.”
“Ah? Then what’s your joy?”
“Making love. I don’t fall in love, I just… make love.”
“Uh…” Tang Anhe froze, cheeks warming at the blunt remark from the bodyguard.
Cheng Muye, quietly amused, lifted an eyebrow and let the faintest curve touch her thin lips.
As they stepped out of Anxin Studio, the sidewalk was bustling. Passersby couldn’t help but steal glances at the young woman in a qipao.
Cheng Muye frowned at Tang Anhe’s slender, alluring figure and decisively took off her blazer, draping it over her.
Outside, the summer air was still sweltering.
The summer air outside was still stifling. Tang Anhe pushed back against the jacket, frowning. “I’m not wearing this! It’s too hot. Why should I?”
Cheng Muye didn’t press the matter, but her voice remained icy as she said, “If you’re not worried about fans staring, you can go without it.”
That’s a good enough reason.
Tang Anhe pouted but grudgingly slid the blazer on, muttering, “Sometimes I just wish I could be an ordinary person. Being a celebrity isn’t fun at all.”
So, she became a celebrity just for fun?
Cheng Muye ignored the comment and kept walking. Trailing behind, Tang Anhe whined, sweat sticking to her skin in the heat. “Brother Cheng, why don’t we just take a car?”
Cheng Muye’s expression stayed cool and detached. “You said you wanted to go out for a walk.”
“But not like this!” Tang Anhe pouted, her rosy lips forming a perfect little pout as she ran up and grabbed Cheng Muye’s hand, shaking it like a spoiled child. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she pleaded, “Brother Cheng, good big brother, didn’t you say you’d take me shopping?”
Her voice, that good big brother, so sweet and soft, almost made Cheng Muye’s legs weak.
This is seriously getting out of hand.
Her heart skipped a beat, cheeks flushing, and she hurriedly pulled her hand away, forcing a composed tone. “Don’t you realize your company is just over there? It’s only a few dozen meters. Do you really need a car?”
“Huh?”
“See? Right there… Meijia Shopping Plaza!”
Following the direction of Tang Anhe’s finger, she spotted the six large characters sparkling faintly in the twilight. A shy smile spread across her face, and then, a bright idea lit up her watery eyes with excitement. “Wow, it usually doesn’t stand out much, but being here with Brother Cheng today, it suddenly feels so brilliant!”
The flattery was working.
Cheng Muye’s lips curved into a small smile as she thought, She’s not completely clueless. When she shows a bit of cleverness, she can be quite endearing.
Tang Anhe became even more charming. For example, when choosing clothes, she happily followed Cheng Muye’s guidance.
“Too short.”
“The back is too revealing.”
“The front is too exposed.”
…
After rejecting more than ten dresses, Tang Anhe finally grasped Cheng Muye’s standards.
“Brother Cheng, don’t you want me to wear dresses?” she asked, setting the pure white dress in her hands aside. She frowned prettily and murmured, “It’s strange. I’m the one wearing it, not you, yet you have so many opinions!”
Cheng Muye felt a flicker of unease at Tang Anhe’s question. She worried that Tang Anhe might sense her hidden intentions, yet at the same time, she worried about hiding them too well. The real reason she had become her bodyguard was because of Tang Anhe—nothing else. She wanted to be with her intimately. Perhaps once she got what she wanted, she could let it go.
But she had seriously overestimated Tang Anhe’s intelligence.
Tang Anhe thought for a few moments, then suddenly pointed at her with a triumphant grin. “I get it now!”
Cheng Muye’s heart thumped violently. She forced her voice to remain steady and asked, “Get what?”
Tang Anhe smiled arrogantly, “You’re jealous of my figure, aren’t you?”
Cheng Muye immediately felt the urge to smack someone. Being with her was a real test of her patience.
“Yes, I am jealous of your figure,” she admitted, gritting her teeth as she spoke.
Tang Anhe didn’t notice anything amiss. She patted Cheng Muye’s shoulder in a comforting gesture. “Actually, it’s not necessary. Your figure feels really nice too. Mm, very masculine.”
Cheng Muye felt a wave of relief wash over her. Fine, let her remain so blissfully oblivious. Her own small fire would smolder quietly for now, and one day, it would flare up fully.
Eventually, Tang Anhe chose a long white shirt with bows on the sleeves, paired with very short pale pink shorts. Because she wasn’t very tall, the shirt’s hem barely covered the top of the shorts, making her lower half look almost as if she weren’t wearing anything. Yet she didn’t notice and even tried to strut like a model.
“How do I look? Super stylish, right?”
She straightened her back, swung her hips, and strode forward with confidence, though her short legs made the walk look comically exaggerated.
Cheng Muye didn’t comment, simply nodding in acknowledgment. “Mm, not bad.”
“Brother Cheng, you really have such good taste,” Tang Anhe exclaimed, her face lighting up with the joy of finding a kindred spirit. Excitedly, she ran over and hooked her arm around Cheng’s, grinning as she said, “You know, I was actually the first-choice ambassador for this outfit. It’s a shame I was too busy at the time, so Gu Zixiao ended up getting a huge bargain instead.”
“Mm, that is a bit unfortunate.”
“You think so too, right? But my sister refused to believe it, saying I wasn’t suitable for this product.”
Oops! Those two statements completely contradicted each other.
Cheng Muye had no interest in listening to her political maneuvering with Gu Zixiao. She paid the bill promptly and walked off, her long legs carrying her away swiftly.
When Tang Anhe finished changing and came out, Cheng Muye was gone. She froze, her flushed face paling, misty eyes filling with panic.
“Cheng Muye! Cheng Muye!” she called, her voice carrying across the store and drawing the attention of other shoppers, who quickly gathered around.
“It’s Tang Anhe, the movie queen Tang Anhe! Everyone, look!”
“Take pictures, take pictures! Wow, I’m so close to the movie queen!”
“So beautiful! Such flawless skin, such a great figure! Look at how she’s wearing the cheongsam… it’s about to burst open!”
The shouts and praise buzzed around Tang Anhe, but she couldn’t calm down. Her eyes darted through the crowd, searching desperately for Cheng Muye, only to find she was gone, vanished as if she had never been there.
“Hey, Tang Anhe, I’m your fan! Can you sign an autograph?”
“I’m your loyal fan! Can we take a photo?”
“Tang Anhe, I love you! You’re my goddess, my dream girl!”
The cries were overwhelming, drowning out Tang Anhe’s calls. With no choice, Tang Anhe quietly picked up a pen, signed autographs, and pretended to pose happily for photos.
Cheng Muye hadn’t left either. She stood quietly in a corner just out of Tang Anhe’s sight, having deliberately stepped away while Tang Anhe changed. She wanted to see if Tang Anhe remained as clueless when alone as she usually appeared.
The cost of this little test was high.
As the crowd swelled and the autograph session seemed endless, Tang Anhe finally decided to sneak away. But she picked the wrong approach, pushing through the crowd. Immediately, she caught the attention of a wolfish figure.
“Ouch! Don’t pinch me!” Tang Anhe’s chest had been pinched right in the softest spot. She immediately covered herself, crying out in pain. “Hey! Why are you touching me like that?”
At her outburst, all eyes turned to a tall, muscular man in the crowd.
He wasn’t the type to look sleazy; his appearance was average, with dark skin and a slightly fierce look. Being singled out by Tang Anhe didn’t faze him, and he showed no hint of embarrassment. Instead, he argued loudly and boldly, “Who touched whom? You pressed against me! How am I supposed to know if you’re just being flirty? Trying to hit on me on purpose, huh? Isn’t it you who likes blowing flute?”
“Forget your flute! Coward! You dare act but won’t take responsibility. What kind of man are you? No wonder you sneak around trying to take advantage of others!” Tang Anhe’s face burned red as she shouted. Glancing at the crowd, she added, “Everyone, stay away from him! This guy’s a pervert!”
Her words cut sharply, instantly drawing attention.
The crowd stared in shock, sharing a silent thought: So the movie queen was groped by a pervert?
For a moment, the female fans were filled with envy and jealousy, while the male fans’ eyes practically drooled, all drawn to her chest. The qipao she wore hugged her curves in a way that mesmerized everyone.
The man, sensing an ally, pointed at her and grinned wickedly. “Look at her! Walking around the mall so flashy and provocative, and she says she’s not here to seduce men?”
“You’re slandering me!” Tang Anhe’s fury flared, her eyes red and teeth clenched to hold back tears. “You shamelessly take advantage of someone else, and now you accuse me of being indecent? That’s too much!”
The man only grew bolder, chuckling. “Let’s be fair. It’s crowded, everyone was pressing together. I accidentally touched her, and suddenly I’m a ‘pervert’? Who knows if this is just for attention? These celebrities chasing trending news are really—”
“Bam!”
Before he could finish, Cheng Muye had pushed through the crowd, her expression cold and commanding. She delivered a powerful kick. “Shut your filthy mouth!”
