- Chapter 19 - I Must Persuade Her to Change Her Mind!
Song Qiluo hadn’t expected such a strong reaction and was momentarily stunned. After a long pause, she regained her voice and said softly, “Does it make a difference? My interests align with Anhe’s. Following my orders is the same as following Anhe’s.”
Cheng Muye sneered coldly, “What if I can’t do it? Would Sister Song fire me then?”
The last sentence clearly carried a threat.
Song Qiluo’s face flushed crimson with fury as she glared at her. “You—”
Cheng Muye bowed her head slightly, appearing to step back, yet her tone grew even firmer. “Forgive my bluntness, but we all depend on Miss Tang for our livelihoods. It’s truly unthinkable to scheme to lord over her. Not even a blood relative should dare!”
This was the reason she could fathom.
Tang Anhe was naturally innocent and uninterested in power struggles. Song Qiluo’s strict control over her might simply be a way to secure her closeness and favor, ensuring she could firmly hold her position as head of the Anxin Studio.
Yet her understanding was ultimately too shallow.
Song Qiluo’s true intentions lay buried deep, as elusive as her genuine nature, something no one could easily uncover.
“You can leave now.” She suddenly waved her hand, halting the tension between them and opting for compromise.
Cheng Muye was far from satisfied. Her earlier sharp tone had been meant to provoke Song Qiluo into revealing something valuable. Clearly, she had underestimated Song Qiluo’s endurance.
What exactly was she up to?
Was her kindness toward Tang Anhe genuine or feigned?
Cheng Muye bowed slightly and replied, “Okay.”
Her mind swirling with questions, she turned to leave the office. Just as she reached for the door handle, a startled cry echoed from outside, followed by the soft, fragrant body of Tang Anhe tumbling through the doorway.
It turned out Tang Anhe had been listening intently, pressed against the door, when it suddenly swung open, causing her to tumble inside.
Fortunately, Cheng Muye caught her in time. Steadying her, she pulled Tang Anhe close and hurried out of the office.
No sooner had they stepped out of the office than Tang Anhe bounced free from her embrace. She scanned her up and down, then asked curiously, “So? So? My sister didn’t give you a hard time, did she?”
Cheng Muye looked surprised. “You were eavesdropping at the door just to find out if your sister gave me a hard time?”
“Yeah!” Tang Anhe nodded vigorously. “You stood up for me in front of the reporters, right? I was afraid my sister would scold you! So I waited by the door. If she said anything mean, I was going to rush in and protect you.”
“Protect me? You?” Cheng Muye couldn’t suppress a laugh at her expression, teasing her lightly. “You usually tremble at the sound of her voice, and now you want to protect me? How presumptuous!”
Despite what she said, a gentle warmth settled in her heart.
She had nearly clashed with Song Qiluo moments ago, and for a brief instant, she had feared being fired, losing any legitimate reason to be near Tang Anhe. Yet now, knowing that Tang Anhe cared for her and wanted to protect her, an inexplicable warmth spread through her chest, bolstering her confidence just a little.
Of course, she understood Tang Anhe treated her this way purely out of admiration and closeness—friendship, not romance. Yet a thread of sweetness still wove through her heart. She had truly been bewitched by Tang Anhe, and damn it, she was more than willing to indulge in it.
Tang Anhe had no idea what a storm of emotions was swirling in her heart. Seeing her teased, she felt a flicker of irritation and feigned outrage. “Brother Cheng, what you just said is hurtful! I may be timid and avoid trouble, but I’m not the kind of person who would ever abandon you!”
Hearing this, Cheng Muye felt her heart melt. Overcome with emotion, she pulled her toward a secluded corner, pressed her against the wall, and held her close in her arms. Her thin lips curved into a subtly seductive smile. “So… how do you plan to protect me?”
The last syllable of her sentence rose just slightly, tinged with warmth and a low, teasing undertone that made Tang Anhe’s face burn. On top of that, she smiled with a captivating charm that left Tang Anhe flushed, her mouth dry, and her heart trembling as if it might leap straight out of her chest.
Damn it! It was bad enough that her heart raced around the actor—so why was it pounding like this now, just looking at this tomboy?
Tang Anhe cursed inwardly but still managed to answer, “Speak well of you, so she treats you gently.”
Cheng Muye chuckled at that, raising an eyebrow. “Just like that? What if she gets mad and fires me?”
“No, it won’t be that serious, right?”
“I’m saying ‘if’.” Cheng Muye emphasized. “If she fires me, what would you do?”
Tang Anhe furrowed her delicate brows, speaking hesitantly, “Then… then hire another bodyguard, is that okay?”
What a hopeless one!
Cheng Muye’s expression darkened, her voice sharp and menacing. “You have one second to reconsider your answer!”
“I’ll beg her!” Tang Anhe’s mind raced, coming up with a plan in a panic. “I’ll convince her to change her mind! I’ll make sure she doesn’t give up on you!”
What the hell was that?
It almost sounded like they were breaking up.
Cheng Muye shot her a look, feeling the tender mood crumble at those words. Still, she reached up to smooth her bride’s updo. Watching her beam with that childlike smile, her heart softened again.
Fine, this was all right too. As long as she was here, she would protect her.
Just as she had imagined, she really would protect her.
Evening arrived.
Zheng Ye’s small gathering began in full swing at the Lotte Entertainment Club.
When Tang Anhe and her group arrived, the hall was already alive with energy—handsome men and elegant women mingled, laughter and conversation mingling with the clinking of glasses.
As the host, Zheng Ye welcomed them with polished ease, guiding them deeper inside. Tang Anhe trailed behind, her eyes fixed on his side profile. He truly was striking, sharp, sculpted features, a tall nose, and captivating blue eyes that hinted at his Chinese–British heritage. Beyond his looks, his demeanor radiated a quiet gentleness. When he leaned close to speak with Song Qiluo, his low, velvety voice carried a subtle, sensual pull.
“I plan to invest in an art film and direct it myself. I have Miss Tang in mind for the lead role. I believe in her acting skills.”
Tang Anhe blinked in shock upon hearing it, then gasped. “The Emperor of Acting is going to become a director?”
In recent years, many celebrities had tried their hand at directing. A few discovered joy in the transition, but far more ended up in regret. Not only did they lose staggering amounts of money, they also became laughingstocks of the entertainment industry. That was why she found it hard to believe that even the acclaimed actor had stepped into directing.
This was truly astonishing!
Zheng Ye caught her dazed expression and nodded with a calm smile. “That’s the plan.”
Tang Anhe frowned, puzzled. “Why? Isn’t being an actor enough?”
“Life is about exploring new things,” came the calm reply. “This is part of my life plan.”
At such a young age, he had already reached the pinnacle of what an actor could achieve. There was no higher summit to conquer. Rather than wait to be surpassed and watch his fame slowly fade, it made more sense to step into a new field and pursue fresh growth.
These ideas were far beyond Tang Anhe’s understanding.
Still, she tucked them quietly into her heart. Turning to Cheng Muye beside her, she asked with curiosity, “Brother Cheng, do you have any life plans?”
You.
You are my life plan.
Cheng Muye responded inwardly, but her expression remained calm. “Hmm. Start a security company.”
Tang Anhe’s eyes sparkled at the response, her enthusiasm practically overflowing. “That’s an amazing plan! Have you started already? How’s the preparation going? What else is needed? Can I invest and become a shareholder?”
She wasn’t genuinely interested, just amused by the novelty of it.
Cheng Muye knew this perfectly well and had no intention of indulging her passing fancy. With a calm, measured tone, she said, “It’s still in the early stages, just an idea.”
“How can it just be an idea?” Tang Anhe ignored the actor and tugged Cheng Muye’s hand toward a quiet corner. Spotting a waiter carrying a tray through the crowd, she casually grabbed two glasses of red wine, handing one to each of them.
Cheng Muye accepted the glass but didn’t drink, merely swirling it idly in her hand. Tang Anhe noticed and frowned slightly but didn’t dwell on it.
She launched into her earnest speech, “Listen, Brother Cheng, ideas alone aren’t enough. You have to put them into action. Tell me what is missing. If it’s money, that’s easy. Name the amount, and I’ll get it for you.”
Her words were so bold and spirited that Cheng Muye couldn’t help the faint curve of a smile tugging at her lips. She teased, “Alright then, how much are you planning to invest?”
“At least a few tens of millions, right?” Tang Anhe replied eagerly.
“That much?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I believe in you, Brother Cheng! Really, if it’s you, you’ll definitely succeed.”
Her wholehearted trust and encouragement kindled a warmth in her chest, lighting a fire that spread through her.
Cheng Muye reached out to ruffle her hair, ready to offer a word of praise, when Tang Anhe’s mischievous grin flashed. Her red lips parted, letting out a string of playful teasing.
“Once you start your security firm, you’ll be the CEO and I’ll be the VP. And when I come by for inspections, heh, all those handsome bodyguards will practically worship me—”
Damn it. She really had overestimated herself.
Cheng Muye’s smile faded, her expression cooling. She would never let Tang Anhe know that she had already achieved this dream.
To hell with those handsome male bodyguards.
With Cheng Muye here, she could forget about having any other guy in this lifetime.
