- Chapter 25 - Kiss of Love
Kevin reached out to touch Qian Hongxian’s face.
Terrified, Qian Hongxian threw the teacup in her hand at Kevin’s face. The cup struck his forehead, and the scalding tea splashed onto his face.
Before she could escape, Kevin seized both of her wrists and pushed her down onto the sofa, rendering her unable to move. His breathing grew rapid, and the tea dripped from the frame of his glasses onto Qian Hongxian’s face. He looked extremely excited.
“Yu Xiuyan originally wanted me to ruin you. But I’ve fallen for you. Why don’t we just enjoy this together?”
“Get off me!” Qian Hongxian used all her strength to struggle, but in the end, Kevin had her completely pinned down. Fear engulfed her. Where were the police?
“Let go, or I’ll shoot.”
Startled, Qian Hongxian and Kevin both turned toward the door. Standing there were Yun Jinyao and the squad leader, both aiming their pistols directly at Kevin.
In a flash, Kevin pulled out a fruit knife and pressed it against Qian Hongxian’s throat.
The squad leader tightened his grip on the gun, but Yun Jinyao remained calm and composed.
“When you were investigating my girlfriend, why didn’t you take the time to look into me as well?” Yun Jinyao smiled slightly.
“I’ve won a shooting championship before. If you make a move, your head will be gone before you can even react. But I don’t want to scare Hongxian, so I’ll let you choose. Do you want me to shoot your leg or your arm?”
Kevin sneered.
“Looks like you’ve forgotten something important: Hongxian’s mother is still in my hands.”
“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that. We already rescued her.”
Qian Hongxian stared at Yun Jinyao in shock, completely unaware that Kevin had loosened his grip.
“Impossible!” Kevin gritted his teeth.
“Thankfully, the squad leader has plenty of experience and decided to search the rest of the building. You hid the hostage on the rooftop and had two big guys guarding her. Sorry to tell you, but both of them are unconscious now. I thought the hostage situation would be tough, but it was almost effortless,” Yun Jinyao said, smiling even more.
Qian Hongxian saw Kevin turn to look at her. His expression was filled with hatred as he raised the fruit knife, aiming it at her throat. She shut her eyes in terror—
A gunshot rang out. Kevin screamed in pain and fell off the sofa. Qian Hongxian quickly sat up and saw Kevin’s leg covered in blood. She rushed behind Yun Jinyao for protection.
The squad leader shouted an order, and several police officers stormed in, tying Kevin up tightly.
Yun Jinyao handed the gun back to the squad leader. The squad leader took it with a serious expression and warned him.
“Make sure no one finds out we secretly lent you a gun. If I hadn’t seen your competition before, I wouldn’t have taken the risk.”
“Jinyao, where’s my mom?” Qian Hongxian tugged on Yun Jinyao’s sleeve, anxiously interrupting.
“Are you okay?” Yun Jinyao pulled her hands forward to examine them. The smug look on his face had disappeared, replaced with concern.
“I’m fine, I just want to see my mom.”
“Come with me. The police took her downstairs.”
Qian Hongxian followed Yun Jinyao downstairs. As soon as they stepped out of the building, they heard an approaching ambulance siren.
Huang Shuzhen sat in a chair, unconscious, leaning against a police officer.
“Mom!” Qian Hongxian dropped to her knees and grabbed her mother’s hands. “What did they do to her?”
The ambulance arrived at the entrance. Yun Jinyao pulled her up. “Let’s get Auntie to the hospital quickly.”
Two paramedics jumped out and swiftly unfolded a stretcher.
“The patient has no external injuries but was drugged unconscious by the kidnapper. She has a history of cardiovascular disease and carries sublingual tablets for emergencies. We already gave her one earlier,” Yun Jinyao quickly explained.
The paramedics nodded, checked Huang Shuzhen’s condition, and lifted her onto the stretcher. Qian Hongxian and Yun Jinyao followed them into the ambulance.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Huang Shuzhen was immediately taken in for a thorough examination. Initially, they thought she would just need an IV, but the doctor came out with a grave expression, saying that emergency surgery was required and urging the family to sign the necessary paperwork.
Although Qian Hongxian signed the documents, her mind had gone completely blank. Fortunately, Yun Jinyao assisted her, asking many important questions. By the time everything was settled, it was already past six in the morning.
“She’s going to be okay.”
Qian Hongxian sat on a hospital chair, burying her face in her hands, while Yun Jinyao sat beside her, gently patting her shoulder to comfort her.
“How did you know my mother has cardiovascular disease and carries sublingual tablets?” she asked, looking up with a tear-streaked face and a hoarse voice. “I’m such an unfilial daughter! The heavens emphasize ethics and morality, yet I, who reincarnated from there, didn’t even notice!”
“You don’t have to blame yourself too much. Your mother is just like that—she only shares good news and keeps the bad to herself. I’ve met many elders like her. Some people also can’t clearly explain their medical conditions, so I make a habit of checking the medications they carry,” Yun Jinyao explained while sending a message on his phone.
“I’ve already informed Yun Jinyi about the situation here. I figured you wouldn’t want to leave the hospital even for a moment, so his girlfriend will bring a change of clothes for both your mother and you later.”
The surgery had been ongoing for over an hour. During this time, Lin Weiting and Lan Xiangrong arrived, and Yun Jinyi and Liao Yunqi also showed up with large bags of supplies. Finally, the operation was completed, and they were informed that Huang Shuzhen’s surgery was successful and that she had been transferred to the recovery room. Only then did Qian Hongxian feel relieved, as if a massive weight had been lifted from her heart. But the moment she relaxed, exhaustion overwhelmed her, and she felt like she could collapse into sleep instantly.
An hour and a half later, Huang Shuzhen woke up. A nurse informed Qian Hongxian of her mother’s assigned hospital room and suggested she go ahead and place their belongings there. Qian Hongxian, running on the last reserves of her strength, managed to help Lan Xiangrong and Liao Yunqi set up her mother’s bed. Once they finished, the hospital staff wheeled Huang Shuzhen into the room, and upon seeing her mother, Qian Hongxian immediately burst into uncontrollable sobs.
“Silly girl, go wash your face. You’re covered in tears and snot, how dirty!” Huang Shuzhen chided from her bed with an experienced mother’s tone. “Xiangrong, could you take care of her for me?”
Lan Xiangrong and Liao Yunqi worked together to lift Qian Hongxian up and gently pushed her toward the restroom. After washing up, she returned to her mother’s bedside, where she overheard Huang Shuzhen recounting the kidnapping to Yun Jinyi.
“I should’ve realized it was a scam. I know Hongxian doesn’t drink alcohol, but that man sounded like he was very familiar with her, so I didn’t think too much about it.”
Your daughter has actually started drinking, Qian Hongxian silently corrected in her heart.
“I ended up being shoved into a car and two big men forcefully made me take drugs. When I woke up, I was already here. What exactly happened? Who kidnapped me? And how did you rescue me?”
“It was Hongxian and Jinyao who bravely came to save you. They can tell you the full story,” Yun Jinyi replied with a warm smile.
Suddenly remembering something, Qian Hongxian’s head shot up as she scanned the room for Yun Jinyao.
“Where’s Jinyao?” she asked.
“Oh, I think he went downstairs to buy coffee,” Lin Weiting replied.
Without a second thought, Qian Hongxian twisted her foot and dashed out of the room, leaving the others in confusion.
She jogged down the hospital hallway, quickly reaching the elevator and frantically pressing the button to go down. The elevator ascended slowly, and just as she was about to give up and take the stairs, the doors finally opened.
Standing inside, Yun Jinyao held two cups of coffee.
“Hmm? Where are you going? I bought you a hot cocoa,” he said, lifting one of the paper cups.
Even if Yun Jinyao’s destined soulmate wasn’t her, even if he might fall in love with someone else in the future, she had no regrets about this decision.
Qian Hongxian took a bold step forward into the elevator, stood before Yun Jinyao, and tiptoed to press a deep, heartfelt kiss on his lips.
Yun Jinyao froze for a moment before wrapping his arms around her and closing his eyes to return the kiss. The elevator doors conveniently shut at that exact moment.
—
That afternoon, only Qian Hongxian, Yun Jinyao, and Huang Shuzhen remained in the hospital room. As Yun Jinyao recounted the details of the rescue operation to Huang Shuzhen, he deliberately omitted the part where Qian Hongxian was in danger, fearing it might worsen her mother’s condition.
Meanwhile, Qian Hongxian sat quietly on the side, staring at her right wrist for a long time, unnoticed by the others.
She couldn’t believe her own eyes.
A bright red thread, strong and shimmering, had appeared on her once bare wrist, connecting her to Yun Jinyao. The red thread that had once linked him to Yu Xiuyan had vanished.
After checking for the hundredth time, confirming that the other end of the thread was indeed tied to Yun Jinyao, Qian Hongxian finally lowered her hands and stopped staring.
So, all along, she had always been Yun Jinyao’s true destined partner. She just lacked the spiritual power to perceive her own fate after reincarnation. They had followed the course of their fated red string—meeting and falling in love—but why had Yu Xiuyan appeared out of nowhere and been tied to Yun Jinyao instead?
Yun Jinyao himself was also full of mysteries. Though his personality was vastly different from Siming’s, there were certain similarities in their demeanor, especially in their cultivation skills. Siming was highly focused when training, possessing immense self-discipline, which made him incredibly powerful—just like Yun Jinyao’s intense concentration when practicing archery. Both had given Qian Hongxian the same advice; both had promised her that she would never be alone…
Could it be that Yun Jinyao was actually the reincarnation of Siming?
Qian Hongxian felt exhausted. She didn’t want to think anymore. She hadn’t even gotten a proper night’s sleep yet!
Looking up, she gazed softly at Yun Jinyao’s handsome side profile.
Whether Yun Jinyao was Siming or not, she was certain that the man she loved was the one before her—the one who cherished and protected her deeply in this human world.
