“The sun’s shining on your butt! Wake up!”

Qian Hongxian was startled awake by the shouting. She opened her eyes and saw Lisa at the foot of the bed, who was busy drawing open the curtains in her room. After finishing, Lisa turned around and looked at her.

“Yao-ge gave us a day off today!” Lisa announced excitedly. “I have class this morning, but after I’m done, I’ll take you out this afternoon.”

Qian Hongxian rubbed her eyes. “A day off? What do you mean?”

“Yao-ge said the restaurant is closed today. He said since it’s rare for you to visit Guanxi, he wants me to take you out for a stroll.”

“Mr. Yun is so thoughtful.”

Lisa snorted.

“I usually juggle classes and part-time work at the restaurant. There were so many times I was so exhausted I’d pass out at home without even showering, and he never showed me this kind of mercy before!”

“It’s impressive that you can still hold on and continue doing this job!” Qian Hongxian said admiringly.

Lisa spread her hands. “What choice do I have? If I don’t help, there’d be no one to support Yao-ge. Plus, the pay’s decent. It’s enough to support myself, and I even saved up for a month-long trip abroad—and I can take you with me!”

Qian Hongxian realized Lisa was quite the brother-con.

After Lisa left the house with her backpack, hopping away happily, Qian Hongxian dragged her aching body out of bed and slowly walked to the bathroom to freshen up. After washing up and putting on makeup, she went downstairs and found the house empty, just like yesterday. Lisa’s parents were not around, and Yun Jinyao was nowhere to be found. Since she had a day off and had gotten enough sleep, she wanted to take this opportunity to spend time with Yun Jinyao, but unfortunately, she missed the chance again.

She spent the entire morning tidying up the rental place, occasionally going out to stroll and shop nearby or calling Huang Shuzhen to report her safety. Before she knew it, it was noon. Lisa returned with her motorcycle, gave her a helmet, and the two girls headed out together.

The streets were lined with Hakka snack stalls and herbal grass tea shops, but instead of stopping there, Lisa took her to a street vendor to buy burritos. Seeing the budget-friendly prices on the sign, Qian Hongxian eagerly bought three.

“You’re so tiny, who knew you could eat this much?” Lisa was impressed.

“How rude! I’m not tiny at all, okay?” Qian Hongxian said, happily biting into her beef burrito. “I’m at least 160 centimeters!”

After snapping a few influencer-style photos of Qian Hongxian on the old street, Lisa took her for a walk along the Dong’an Ancient Bridge. They strolled hand in hand along the banks of the Niulan River, chatting and taking photos. Throughout the walk, Lisa enthusiastically shared her plans to attend a concert in Japan next year, persistently inviting Qian Hongxian to join. Qian Hongxian just smiled and politely declined—after all, she’d be thirty-two next year.

Their last stop was the Jinyong Tomato Garden, where they picked a bag of tomatoes before heading home. Lisa mentioned that if they had more time, she’d have loved to take her to the Siliou Creek Ecology Classroom too.

Before returning, Qian Hongxian asked Lisa to take her grocery shopping since the fridge at home was practically empty. Their haul was abundant—they returned home with bags in both hands. Qian Hongxian then showcased her cooking skills, whipping up three dishes and a soup, making Lisa’s mouth water.

“Your cooking looks amazing! Hongxian-jie, I want to save some for my parents to have as a midnight snack,” Lisa practically plastered herself to the dining table.

“Of course! I’ll pack it up for them.”

While Lisa devoured her meal, Qian Hongxian was busy packing food into glass containers when Yun Jinyao returned. Dressed in motorcycle gear and holding a pricey helmet, he hurriedly took off his shoes. Lisa, her mouth full, called out, “Yao-ge, Hongxian-jie cooked! Come eat!”

Yun Jinyao approached the table, silently staring at the dishes, making Qian Hongxian a bit nervous. Then, he walked into the kitchen and returned with an empty glass container.

“Can you pack a portion for me too? I’ll eat it when I get back later.” He handed the container to Qian Hongxian.

“Are you heading out again?” Lisa’s eyes widened.

“I’m going to the restaurant to prepare the ingredients,” he said curtly, heading toward the stairs.

An idea struck Qian Hongxian. She shoved the containers into Lisa’s hands and hurried after him.

When she reached the second floor, Yun Jinyao had just opened his room door. She slipped in before he could close it.

He looked surprised, and she quickly said, “I’ll go with you.”

“You want to come?” He raised an eyebrow, repeating her words.

“Well… it’ll be faster with an extra set of hands, right? Though I don’t have much experience working in a restaurant.”

“No need to worry, Miss Qian. Chen Shaoxuan will be at the restaurant too,” he said as he took off his riding jacket.

But if Chen Shaoxuan was there, how could she have a proper conversation with Yun Jinyao?

“Then… could you ask Shaoxuan not to come? I can help you instead,” she said eagerly.

Yun Jinyao paused, turned around, and looked at her with an amused expression.

“… You don’t want Chen Shaoxuan there?”

She nodded honestly.

“In that case, you want to be alone with me?”

She blushed and nodded shyly.

Yun Jinyao’s expression looked like he was holding back a laugh. “Got it. I’ll call him. You wait for me downstairs.”

“Okay!” She nodded happily and then turned to leave.

Not long after, Yun Jinyao changed his clothes and came downstairs. The two of them left together, driving to the restaurant.

After arriving at the restaurant, the two of them put on aprons together. Qian Hongxian helped him take out the ingredients that needed to be prepared from the refrigerator, while Yun Jinyao was in charge of cutting the meat, and Qian Hongxian was responsible for washing and chopping the vegetables. Both of them wore gloves and stood side by side to start working.

Earlier in the car, there wasn’t much conversation, and once Yun Jinyao got into work mode, he became even quieter. Qian Hongxian’s mind was working hard, turning and turning, until she finally thought of a topic to talk about.

“Mr. Yun, did you know that among my successfully matched clients, the oldest is even over seventy years old? Mr. Chen was like you, not hopeful about marriage for his entire life. But after I arranged for him to meet Grandma Wu, he felt like he was reborn,” Qian Hongxian slightly altered the story of Chen Zhongguo and Wu Xiumei. “So, Mr. Yun, you certainly have a good match waiting for you as well. Why don’t you give it a try, and have a ‘simple meal’ with a girl, just to chat?” She unconsciously emphasized the phrase ‘simple meal.’

Yun Jinyao’s lips curved slightly as he continued to cut meat.

“Miss Qian, perhaps you should focus on yourself. You don’t seem to have much dating experience either.”

She lowered her head, focusing on slicing the radish.

“I… I haven’t had a boyfriend, but I do like someone.” The gentle face of Siming surfaced in her mind, and a blissful smile appeared.

“Oh, really?” Yun Jinyao continued, his tone calm. “Would a goddess fall for a mortal man?”

The word “goddess” seemed to trigger a switch in her. Like her mother, Yun Jinyao felt like someone she could talk to about her life in the celestial realm

“Of course, we also have people we like, but if we want to achieve higher cultivation, we need to be pure and abstinent.” She unconsciously stopped her work, turned around, and looked at Yun Jinyao, opening up. “The one I like is not in the human world; Siming Xingjun is in the celestial heavens. However, Siming has very high cultivation, so he probably sees me as just a regular little goddess.” She said, feeling a bit lost, and turned back to face the white radish on the cooking table. After two seconds, she turned back to Yun Jinyao again, “But don’t worry, even if I can’t find my own match, I can definitely find yours because I am the Moon Matchmaker.”

She looked at Yun Jinyao, who was silently cutting meat, and waited for his response.

Yun Jinyao put down the knife and turned around, unexpectedly pulling Qian Hongxian into his arms. He held her knife-wielding right hand up in the air with his left hand, while his right hand wrapped around her waist, pressing her body tightly against his.

Qian Hongxian’s mind went blank.

“Usually,” Yun Jinyao stared at her intently, “when a woman asks to be alone with a man, she somewhat expects something to happen. For example, a kiss,” his handsome features gradually approached, his tone extremely ambiguous, “or even going to bed. Since the person you like hasn’t given you any promises, you should forget about him.”

A strong masculine aura swept over. She felt the warmth of Yun Jingyao’s body against hers, and her cheeks couldn’t help but flush. She still had one hand free to resist, but for some reason, she just couldn’t move.

But if she didn’t resist, her first kiss would be taken by a man other than Siming.

Just when Qian Hongxian thought she was about to be kissed, Yun Jingyao let go of her. Her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground.

“My apologies.” Yun Jinyao squatted down, offering his hand to help her up. However, his tone was cold and indifferent.

Qian Hongxian stood up, one hand on the counter, the other clutching her chest. Her heart was pounding wildly, and it took a long time to calm down.

The two of them remained silent for a long time. When Qian Hongxian’s racing emotions finally subsided, they were replaced by a sense of dejection. She didn’t know how to interact with Yun Jinyao anymore.

And worse, she had actually felt a spark of attraction to a man other than Siming, something she couldn’t even accept herself. But Yun Jinyao was right—even if she felt something for another man, Siming, would he?

With a lifeless expression, Qian Hongxian set aside the bowl of chopped white radishes and pulled over a carrot to continue working.

“Did Li Qing take you out for a walk today?” Yun Jinyao changed the subject as he organized the cut meat.

“Yes. Previously, my impression of Guanshi Town was only the rest stop, but today I finally had the opportunity to get to know this place better.” After Qian Hongxian finished speaking, she didn’t say anything further.

After another brief silence, Yun Jinyao spoke again, “You said you’re Moon Matchmaker?”

Qian Hongxian finally reacted. She looked up at Yun Jinyao and nodded.

“How about this: Let’s make a deal. If you can find a partner for my brother, I’ll go on a date according to your arrangements.”

Qian Hongxian’s face lit up with joy, making Yun Jinyao chuckle.

“Your brother isn’t married yet either?” she asked curiously.

Yun Jinyao sighed, “The girl he liked probably married someone else and moved abroad with her whole family. After she left, he became like a zombie and said he could never love another woman in this lifetime.”

Qian Hongxian silently prayed, hoping that Yun Jinyao’s brother would have a red thread properly tied on his hand.

“No problem. Please arrange for me to meet your brother.”
