Chapter 9: Killing and Arson, the Golden Belt!

This scene left the leaders of the Black Deer Army, who were surrounding the middle-aged man, in stunned silence. They vaguely realized that this plainly dressed youth was not a sheep waiting to be slaughtered, but a fierce wolf!

Having killed a Black Deer soldier with one strike, Su Hao could have escaped without anyone daring to pursue or stop him. However, he remained silent, a layer of frost enveloping his face as he moved toward the battle circle.

Since he had already made his move, according to Su Hao’s character, he intended to root out the threat completely. He would eradicate the group of Black Deer soldiers who sought to claim his head as a trophy for merit and bounty, bringing an end to the matter!

“We made a mistake… we’ve got the wrong person!” The cold-looking man realized that Su Hao was not an ordinary person and that he would not let the matter go easily. He quickly shouted, attempting to appease Su Hao and dissuade him from getting involved in the fight.

But it was too late!

Su Hao suddenly increased his speed. The two Black Deer soldiers attacking the middle-aged man clenched their teeth and broke away from the battle circle, charging at Su Hao from both sides, their long knives flickering with cold light, capable of cutting through flesh and bone.

Su Hao focused intently; having mastered Baduanjin, his potential was unlocked, and his five senses became acute. After completing the body refinement and Strength Force training, his perception and reaction times far surpassed his previous abilities. In a concentrated state, he could track the trajectories of the two soldiers’ attacks!

Swish! Swish!

As his body swayed, the two long knives swung through empty air. Su Hao deftly adjusted his footwork and orientation, maneuvering so that the two Black Deer soldiers ended up in each other’s way, forcing them to confront only one opponent.

Swish! Swish!

The Black Deer soldiers continued to swing their blades, but as soon as they raised their arms, Su Hao had already anticipated their actions from their stances and movements, dodging in advance. They missed with three or four successive strikes!

This was the advantage of a skilled martial artist facing someone who had only practiced basic knife techniques and martial forms; by observing the opponent’s muscle movements and starting posture, one could predict their actions and counter accordingly.

As the Black Deer soldiers continued to swing their blades without landing a hit on Su Hao, their breath weakened, and their movements became momentarily sluggish. At that instant, Su Hao stepped forward rapidly, closing the distance and crashing into one soldier’s embrace. The muscles in his right arm rippled as a burst of Strength Force coalesced, and from just a couple of feet away, he aggressively struck at the soldier’s chest!

“Bang!”

The Black Deer soldier was wearing padded armor, which, while less protective than heavy armor like metal suits, offered decent defense against punches and kicks. However, under Su Hao’s punch infused with Strength Force, it produced a sound like an exploding firecracker. The surface of the armor caved in deeply, accompanied by the sound of bones shattering. The ribs of that Black Deer soldier broke, and the force of the punch penetrated through him, making his internal organs feel like they were being hammered. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and was sent crashing to the ground.

This was the power of a Refining Strength martial artist: even when unarmed against armored foes, others might struggle to break through their defenses, but a Refining Strength martial artist could easily shatter bones and tendons!

Another Black Deer soldier attacking Su Hao felt a chill in his heart; this youth was nothing short of a killing deity! His punches and kicks were heavy enough to easily shatter rocks!

“Bang!”

In the midst of his horror, Su Hao didn’t pause for a moment. Within just two or three moves, he executed a powerful sweeping kick that broke the soldier’s waist and sent him flying, crashing to the ground like a broken sack.

“Now’s your chance to stop; do you dare offend the Black Deer Army? Don’t you fear for your family’s lives?”

In the blink of an eye, three out of five Black Deer soldiers had been defeated by Su Hao. The cold-looking leader threatened fiercely.

“Every single one of the Black Deer Army bandits must be punished!”

However, the middle-aged man, with a low growl, saw the morale of the two soldiers dwindling and swiftly struck, felling one of the Black Deer soldiers.

The cold-looking man realized the situation was dire and turned to escape, but as soon as he had taken a few steps, Su Hao pounced from the side like a ferocious wolf, landing a heavy punch on his temple.

“Bang!”

In an instant, the cold-looking man’s skull shattered. Blood gushed from his ears and nose, and his eyes widened in shock as he fell limp to the ground, a hint of fear and regret still lingering in his eyes.

They had clearly been capable of easily striking down the sergeant of the Evergreen Army together, so why did they have to provoke this seemingly ordinary youth? Now they all faced death!

“Why did you have to seek your own demise?”

Su Hao calmed his raging blood and, looking at the bodies scattered on the ground, felt that some of his pent-up anger had finally vented. Although this matter had nothing to do with him, these Black Deer soldiers insisted on claiming his head for merit, so all he could do was send them on their way!

He glanced at the middle-aged man who had fallen to the ground and quickly moved, delivering fatal blows to the remaining Black Deer soldiers while also searching for any valuables on them. Killing without rifling through the bodies was like killing for nothing.

The middle-aged man swallowed nervously as he watched the scene unfold before him. The young man moved with such familiarity; whether it was dealing the finishing blows or searching the bodies, he clearly didn’t seem like someone doing this for the first time.

“Hmm? What’s this…?”

Initially, Su Hao didn’t hold high hopes for any gains, considering these men couldn’t bring all their possessions with them when they went out. In fact, this was true; these men carried nothing but empty pockets—not even a bit of copper coin. However, he made a discovery on the cold-looking man.

In the inner pocket of the cold-looking man’s clothing, Su Hao found a paper note printed with bright red cinnabar!

“A silver note?”

Su Hao’s heart raced instantly.

A silver note has a minimum denomination of one hundred taels! The note he discovered on the cold-looking man was indeed worth one hundred taels!

Su Hao had earned a decent income in Crouching Tiger Town, yet he still hadn’t saved up one hundred taels. Whether the cold-looking man had acquired this wealth through robbery or as a reward for service to the Black Deer Army, it ultimately benefited Su Hao now.

“And there’s also a token.”

Su Hao also found a token engraved with the words “Red Maple Ridge Market,” which appeared to be some sort of pass, though he didn’t have time to investigate it further.

“Killing and arson come with gold waistbands, it truly seems…”

Suppressing his excitement, Su Hao pocketed the silver note and paid no attention to the middle-aged man from the Evergreen Army, turning to leave.

“Little brother, my name is Pei Changhong. If you ever need assistance, you can find me at Spring Willow Street in Anyu District, Evergreen City! I will definitely reward you handsomely!”

Seeing Su Hao quicken his pace, the middle-aged man understood that Su Hao preferred to avoid trouble but quickly shouted out to his retreating back.

If it hadn’t been for Su Hao, he would surely have faced death today, and all he could do was express his gratitude.

“This young man looks only around sixteen or seventeen, already at the Refining Strength stage, and he seems to be dressed quite simply. Could he be a martial artist from a certain martial arts school? He truly has great potential!”

Watching Su Hao’s receding figure, Pei Changhong silently remarked to himself.

Refining Strength is the first barrier in martial arts, and it is enough to exclude ninety percent of martial artists. Those who can refine their strength can do well whether they are escorting caravans or enlisting in the army.

From Pei Changhong’s perspective, Su Hao, at such a young age, must be a talented youth from some martial arts school in Evergreen City. He never imagined that Su Hao was just a boy from a rural town, relying solely on a secret book to practice and reach this level by himself!

Su Hao continued walking briskly; he had no intention of getting entangled with this middle-aged man, Pei Changhong, who was affiliated with the Evergreen Army. Given his talents, what he needed to do now was to develop quietly, rather than proactively involve himself in the chaos and danger!

Of course, the best course of action would actually be to eliminate Pei Changhong as well, completely eradicating any trouble. However, judging from the previous interaction, Pei Changhong did not seem to be a bad person, and Su Hao could not bring himself to be so ruthless. Avoiding any entanglements with him was sufficient.

“This trip has yielded decent returns; one hundred taels of silver… that’s enough to buy a small courtyard in Evergreen City.”

Su Hao patted the silver note in his pocket, secretly pleased.

Of course, if it had been someone else lacking strength, encountering such an incident wouldn’t just mean losing a silver note; their head could easily become a trophy for that group of Black Deer Army soldiers!

Yet Su Hao had sufficient strength and could turn danger into profit, reaping a windfall. This is the advantage that strength brings!
