Chapter 34: Blade Catcher! Department Head Gongsun!
The information Su Hao obtained from the Black Market’s information dealer, Old Wang, was quite valuable to him.
“Anyway, let’s first check out the Yamen to see if this so-called Blade Catcher can help me achieve my goals,” Su Hao thought to himself. After leaving the Black Market, he returned to Evergreen City, contemplating his next steps, and decided to first visit the Yamen to assess the situation.
“But before going, I need to prepare.”
Su Hao had no intention of revealing his true identity as a Blade Catcher. Firstly, he was looking to avoid trouble by adopting the identity of a Blade Catcher to obtain what he desired. Secondly, being a Blade Catcher would surely offend people, so concealing his real identity would help him avoid revenge from those wronged!
In the courtyard where Su Hao lived, he stood in front of a mirror. In the reflection, he appeared to be in his twenties, tall and handsome.
At that moment, he focused his thoughts, and something extraordinary began to happen!
“Crack, crack, crack!”
With a series of popping sounds, Su Hao’s bones started to twist and shrink. He noticed that his height and physique diminished noticeably; where he was once towering, he now looked average, becoming quite unremarkable.
Even the bones of his face changed; his cheekbones slightly sank, and his eyes elongated, making him appear ten years older at least. His overall demeanor suddenly became cold and sharp!
The ‘Bone Shrinking Technique’ was a martial art that Su Hao exchanged for in the Black Market. Its enhancement to combat power was almost negligible; its main effect was the ability to control the shrinkage of bones. With mastery of the Bone Shrinking Technique, he could fit through any space as long as his head could pass through!
With Su Hao’s talent, he casually practiced the Bone Shrinking Technique to perfection. After reaching perfection, he could even control the bones of his face, altering his bone structure and thus changing his appearance to a certain degree.
Not only that, but Su Hao also took out some cosmetics he purchased from the Black Market and began applying them to his skin, making it appear rougher while letting his black hair hang loosely.
Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he transformed into a sharp-looking wanderer in his thirties, weathered by life’s hardships!
“Even if a familiar face stands before me, they absolutely won’t recognize me!”
After examining his reflection, Su Hao nodded in satisfaction. This ‘disguise technique,’ achieved by combining the Bone Shrinking Technique with makeup, was quite impressive!
Having completed all of this, Su Hao quietly left through the back door and made his way towards the county office via a secluded alley.
Chapter 35: The Yamen’s Blade Catcher
The Evergreen County Patrol Office is responsible for capturing criminals and managing hired martial artists like the Blade Catchers. To become a Blade Catcher, one must register with the Patrol Office.
The bulletin board at the entrance displayed numerous notices, the majority of which were wanted posters. Two patrolmen couldn’t help but glance at the bulletin board, where a black-clad man with long black hair stood. The two exchanged glances since this man had been staring at the notices for nearly half an hour without taking any bounties.
This black-clad man was, of course, Su Hao in disguise.
“Sun Er, a slave of the Zhang Family in Qingsang Town, stole items from the family and murdered someone to escape when discovered. A wanted poster has been issued, and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts will be rewarded with 20 taels of silver… These are all bounties that don’t interest me at all.”
Su Hao inwardly shook his head. The wanted notices posted were mostly for ordinary characters. To the average person, they were heinous criminals, but to Su Hao, they were merely minor fish.
Of course, the main reason was that Su Hao looked down upon these rewards; what he sought was martial arts at the Initiated Level!
“It seems I need to find someone of weight within the Patrol Office.”
With that thought, Su Hao strode toward the entrance of the Patrol Office, intending to negotiate directly with someone of importance.
“May I ask what brings you here? If it’s not a significant matter, the Patrol Office does not easily entertain outsiders,” one of the patrolmen stopped Su Hao and inquired, noting that his appearance and demeanor were not like that of an ordinary person.
Su Hao wasted no time and directly stated, “I want to become a hired Blade Catcher for the Yamen. The bounties outside are not worth my effort; I wish to see your superior.”
This surprised the two patrolmen. The bounties on the bulletin board included some substantial ones, even involving martial artists at the Forging Bone Stage, but the black-clad man before them claimed that these outside bounties weren’t worth his effort.
Either he was extremely arrogant or was confident in his own strength!
After a glance at each other, the younger patrolman on the right didn’t dare to dismiss Su Hao, who seemed quite capable. He politely said, “Please wait here; I will go inform my superior.”
Su Hao nodded, while the young patrolman quickly entered the Patrol Office.
Before long, the young patrolman returned, respectfully gesturing for Su Hao to enter. “Our Department Head Gongsun Xiu invites you to come in for a discussion.”
Gongsun Xiu was the head of the Patrol Office, and his position was significant. It was said that someone with extraordinary skills had come to visit, piquing his interest. Coupled with the fact that he had some free time, he decided to meet this visitor personally to see if this person was indeed remarkable or just someone with an inflated ego!
“Lead the way.”
Su Hao, with an air of aloofness and few words, simply uttered these two words.
Following the young patrolman into the Patrol Office surrounded by red walls, they passed through a shaded path and arrived at a tranquil back garden.
There, Su Hao met Department Head Gongsun Xiu. He was a middle-aged man nearing forty, dressed in brocade clothing, with a knife at his waist and an imposing demeanor.
Upon seeing Su Hao approach from a distance of about three zhang, Gongsun Xiu laughed heartily, “I heard someone wishes to meet me. Although I don’t know your identity, guests are always welcomed. Please, have a cup of tea!”
With that, Gongsun Xiu flicked his wrist, sending a cup filled with tea flying towards Su Hao.
The tea cup spun rapidly as it shot towards him!
It was clear that Gongsun Xiu was testing Su Hao to see if he was worthy of his personal attention!
Su Hao’s expression remained calm; he simply extended his hand and opened his palm.
The flying tea cup soared over Su Hao’s hand but seemed to be pulled by an invisible force, gently descending into his palm. The spinning cup came to a sudden stop, and not a single drop of tea was spilled!
“This man in black… his control over Strength Force is incredibly profound! He was able to catch the cup containing the force hidden by the Department Head without any damage, and not a drop of tea was lost, all while being so nonchalant?”
The young patrolman who led Su Hao witnessed this scene with a mixture of astonishment and shock.
The cup was fragile, thrown by Gongsun Xiu; if one tried to catch it forcibly, it would likely shatter or spill its contents.
Yet, Su Hao didn’t even attempt to catch it forcefully; he merely opened his palm, and an invisible force released, making it seem as though the cup voluntarily landed in his hand, truly unfathomable!
