Chapter 27: Black Deer Rebel Army! Bloody Massacre!
“I was on the road earlier and saw a group of Evergreen Army soldiers saying that Crouching Tiger Town was attacked by rebels. I was worried and came back to check, but the others are okay, right?” Su Hao explained to Zhao Tie while asking.
“Let’s… talk inside first,” Zhao Tie replied, his expression filled with anger and sorrow, leaving him at a loss for words.
A bad premonition gripped Su Hao’s heart. As he entered the courtyard of the Blacksmith Shop, he immediately spotted several corpses lying on the ground, each face familiar to him—some were apprentices from the shop, while others were the blacksmiths themselves.
“Master Zhou?”
Among the bodies, one in particular made Su Hao’s eyes well up with tears. It was a middle-aged man—Zhou Xiong!
Zhou Xiong had taught Su Hao the art of forging when he first started out, looking after and guiding him. Just that morning before leaving, he had teased Su Hao about going to Evergreen City to start a family and not to think about coming back to this poor village.
But now, Zhou Xiong had met his tragic end here, and he had died a miserable death. Su Hao saw that his right arm had been severed, and there were deep, bone-deep knife wounds all over his body.
Zhao Tie’s eyes were reddened with tears. “That group of Black Deer rebels launched a surprise attack. The militia of Crouching Tiger Town couldn’t resist at all; they stormed in and massacred everyone. We shut the doors of the Blacksmith Shop and defended ourselves with weapons, but a big man in black armor leading those rebels smashed the door open with a single blow.”
“They wanted to capture us and force us to serve them. They killed Old Zhou in front of us, trying to make us submit. Fortunately, upon receiving news that the Evergreen Army was coming, the rebels chose to retreat…”
“Sigh… How am I going to explain this to Old Zhou’s mother? He has no children…” Zhao Tie lamented, filled with both anger and sadness.
“These damned rebels, calling themselves the Revolutionary Army, but they’re nothing more than a group committing arson, murder, and robbery. How are they any different from bandits?”
The survivors in the Blacksmith Shop had eyes filled with rage. The Black Deer Army, the most powerful revolutionary group currently within Evergreen County, claimed to be leading a rebellion, yet their actions were nothing but rampant destruction and looting!
Being able to forge weapons made them valuable to the Black Deer Army, which is why they deliberately targeted the Blacksmith Shop. If not for the news of the Evergreen Army’s advance, Zhao Tie and the others would have shared a similar grim fate.
“Uncle Zhao… I need to get some fresh air.”
Suppressing his emotions, Su Hao used the excuse of needing to breathe to step outside, making his way to the edge of the town.
“Looking at the marks on the ground, this group of marauding Black Deer bandits headed south. I need to check it out.”
At the town’s entrance, Su Hao observed numerous hoofprints in the snow. He took a deep breath, feeling a chilling layer of cold enveloping him, even more severe than the biting wind and snow.
Zhou Xiong, who had been his half-master at the Blacksmith Shop, had even lent him some silver before he left, like a family elder. Now he had fallen victim to those Black Deer rebels. Su Hao could not pretend everything was normal; he needed to make them pay a heavy price!
Following the tracks on the ground, Su Hao chased after the direction the Black Deer Army had taken.
Twenty miles outside of Crouching Tiger Town, an intense battle was unfolding.
The clash was between the Black Deer Army and the Evergreen Army.
Not long ago, the Black Deer Army had pillaged Crouching Tiger Town, and after retreating, they were pursued by a group of Evergreen Army cavalry that had received the news. The two sides immediately erupted into conflict and slaughter!
“Kill! Annihilate these rebels!”
“A bunch of dog servants of corrupt officials, aiding evil—kill them!”
The soldiers from both sides shouted, engaging in a fierce melee. The sounds of clashing swords, flesh being torn, and roars of rage mingled together.
With nearly two hundred soldiers on each side, the brutal scene was quite shocking, with people and horses tumbling over one another.
“Die!”
On the Evergreen Army’s side, a burly middle-aged man in silver armor swung his long knife, creating a chilling blade light that sliced a Black Deer soldier in half. The blade flickered and moved swiftly, cutting through all that dared to block its path!
“Brigade Leader Ji Gang is mighty!”
“This is the terror of a Martial Artist at the Forging Bone Stage; on this battlefield, he appears to be a true weapon of slaughter!”
Several Evergreen soldiers followed the silver-armored man into the fray like a sharpened dagger, causing the Black Deer soldiers to panic and falter. They looked ahead at the silver-armored figure, who seemed god-like, feeling invigorated in their hearts.
The Evergreen Army serves as the guard for Evergreen City, and joining it requires careful selection. For those seeking an official position within, outstanding martial prowess is a must!
Take Ji Gang, for instance; he is the captain of this cavalry unit and has already reached the level of the Forging Bone Stage, possessing the strength to wield a thousand pounds with one arm. The gusts from his knife swing can tear apart all obstacles!
“Kill!”
On the Black Deer Army’s side, a long howl echoed as a towering figure surged forward, like a ferocious beast. This man stood seven feet tall, shrouded in heavy metal armor, with only his eyes visible, making the weight of the armor starkly evident.
This black-armored giant wielded a two-handed heavy hammer, roaring as he swung it violently through the air, stirring up a howling wind.
Ji Gang’s expression grew serious as he swung his knife to block the attack.
“Clang!!”
The crisp sound of metal colliding rang out, mingled with the neighing of warhorses. Ji Gang, mounted on his steed, felt the impact as the hammer and knife clashed, a powerful force pressing down on him that even caused his horse to let out a cry of pain, collapsing to the ground with broken legs.
“Dammit! I’ll take you down!”
Furious at his injured beloved horse, Ji Gang erupted with rage, his bones cracking as blood surged within him, pushing his body to its limits. The aura of steel and war filled him as he viciously swung his knife toward the black-armored giant.
“Hahaha! Let me see your tricks, you minion!”
The black-armored giant laughed wildly, wielding his heavy war hammer as if it were weightless. With each swing, he stirred up howling gusts of wind, meeting Ji Gang’s knife head-on.
“Clang!””Clang!”
The battle knife and heavy hammer collided repeatedly, producing a piercing metallic sound accompanied by flying sparks. The shockwave from the clash forced the surrounding combatants and steeds to instinctively retreat.
“It’s like two humanoid ferocious beasts are battling…”
Both sides’ soldiers were stunned by the might of these two Martial Artists at the Forging Bone Stage. Each one seemed capable of taking on a hundred opponents. Every collision caused tremendous noise, cracking the ground and sending debris flying.
“Captain Gao Fei Lu has the upper hand; this lackey from the Evergreen Army is no match for Captain Gao!”
On the side of the Black Deer Army, there was a sense of joy as they recognized that the stronger fighter in this fierce exchange was the black-armored giant, who was also one of their captains named Gao Fei Lu, known for his bravery in battle!
“Damn it… This rogue leader seems to have reached the second level of Forging Bones, and his armor appears to be crafted from fine iron, incredibly heavy. I can’t break through it; he can focus solely on attacking…”
Ji Gang’s expression was grave, yet he had an ominous premonition. In battles between Martial Artists, beyond the realm of strength, weapons and armor were equally significant; a child wielding a knife could kill an adult.
Before him, this black-armored giant wielded a heavy weapon and donned heavy armor, making it difficult for even Ji Gang, who was also at the Forging Bone Stage, to penetrate his defenses. Each hammer strike from the giant had tremendous force, and every collision sent shockwaves through Ji Gang’s wrists, nearly making his long knife slip from his grip!
Gritting his teeth, Ji Gang held on desperately, knowing that if he couldn’t keep the black-armored giant at bay, the latter would certainly butcher his soldiers indiscriminately.
However, at that moment, a startled cry echoed.
On the outskirts of the battlefield where both sides were fighting, a strange figure stepped forward. It was peculiar because, under broad daylight, the figure was dressed in black night attire, wearing a hood that revealed only his eyes!
The newcomer was none other than Su Hao, who had been tracking the fight. He saw the clash between nearly two hundred soldiers, one side being the Black Deer Army that had slaughtered Crouching Tiger Town.
“I want… to kill them until the ground is soaked with blood!”
The brutal murder of an elder who had looked after him at the hands of these rebel forces fueled Su Hao’s murderous intent. He understood that today, he must unleash a great slaughter.
