Yi Xing was surprised that An Wumeng‘s views were so similar to his.

…

Facing the stunned eyes of Poison Master and the others, Yi Xing explained,

“They seemed to have been starving for a long time and didn’t have the strength to lift the stone slab, so I helped them open it.”

The Poison Master was momentarily speechless, and after a long pause said, “They’ll surely be touched by your thoughtfulness.”

The sound of a heavy object being dragged across the ground could be heard.

Yi Xing looked down and saw that the ladder at the cave entrance had already been removed. A few slightly older children were standing below the entrance, armed with brooms, tongs, ladles, and various other “weapons.”

At the front was a child with a crew cut, about eleven or twelve years old, dragging a barely passable stone stick as a weapon, glaring at him with a look of anger and determination.

“Whoever comes down, I’ll kill them!” the buzz-cut kid roared in a hoarse voice.

He looked intimidating at first glance, but his bamboo-like thin arms, colorless lips, and the weak, feeble sound of his shouts all betrayed his frailty.

“Can you even lift that stick in your hand?” Yi Xing asked doubtfully.

The crew-cut child gripped the stone stick with both hands, veins bulging on his arms, barely lifting it an inch off the ground.

“How long have they been hungry…”

Yi Xing was familiar with that feeling of being so hungry that his whole body felt weak.

Only his weakness meant he couldn’t hunt for hundreds of miles at night, he could only beat up a few guys who had lured him into an alley trying to rob him, taking back what was theirs.

Their weakness was that they couldn’t even lift their weapons.

Yi Xing tapped the glowing screen, spending a few points to exchange for a steaming basket of soup dumplings.

The aroma of the food wafted out.

The children unconsciously swallowed, their gazes fixed on the fragrant basket, their eyes revealing an undisguised longing.

Yi Xing lifted the lid of the basket and tilted it slightly, holding it so the children below could clearly see the soft, steaming dumplings inside, and said,

“Come on, answer one question for me, and this basket of soup dumplings is yours.”

“Where is this place? There’s no food. How did you survive?” Yi Xing asked.

The crew-cut child at the front swallowed hard and said, “You just asked two questions.”

“Then answer them one by one.” Yi Xing exchanged another pot of porridge, the aroma of rice filling the air.

Now, the children’s eyes widened in amazement.

“Is this porridge authentic?” someone asked.

The dumplings appeared out of nowhere. Saying he had hidden them beforehand doesn’t work, producing such a big basket of dumplings from thin air is unexplainable. It seemed more like this person had caused them all to hallucinate.

The scent was so enticing that they couldn’t help but wonder, maybe, maybe it’s true?

“Of course.”

To gain their trust, Yi Xing took bowls and spoons from his space, originally prepared for the Three-headed Dog of Hell, served a bowl of porridge, and drank it himself first.

The Poison Master stood to the side, somewhat questioning reality, “What exactly does this guy keep in his space? Such valuable space items and he’s storing tableware?”

“No wonder his codename is Taotie,” the Painter muttered, glancing at An Wumeng, who was quietly watching Taotie negotiate, before averting her gaze.

Since the team leader had tacitly approved of Taotie’s actions, they would just wait and see.

“It tastes pretty good.” Yi Xing licked the rice grains off his lips with his tongue.

It just doesn’t provide much energy, no matter how much he eats, he won’t feel full. But that’s only for him; ordinary people would still be satisfied.

Yi Xing lifted the bottom of his bowl, asking the children below, “Have you decided on your answer? Or do you want to watch me drink a bit more? Though with such a small pot of porridge, if I drink it, it’ll be gone in half a minute.”

“This is hell. All gluttons will be punished here after they die,” said the short-haired boy.

It turned out to be pretty much what An Wumeng had guessed.

Gluttony must be punished.

Yi Xing snorted coldly, “Is gluttony even a crime?”

As he spoke, he fulfilled his promise, using the blood spider silk to send the soup dumplings down.

The children were somewhat afraid of the red threads, but food can give starving people an unexpected burst of courage.

The crew-cut child dragged the stone stick forward, quickly grabbed the basket, returned to the group, and distributed the dumplings.

There were six steamed buns, and each person received half a bun. The man with the buzz cut didn’t take any for himself.

He answered Yi Xing’s question,

“Binge means eating ahead of meals, snacking between meals, consuming overly rich food, or eating rare or expensive food, any of these are considered the sin of binge eating.”

“Binge?” Yi Xing grasped the key point.

“It’s the demon that rules this place,” the crew-cut child said.

“It’s a giant fly, really terrifying,” said a little girl, gobbling down the dumplings.

A fly…doesn’t sound very appetizing.

Yi Xing frowned. Seeing that the girl seemed to be choking, he used the blood spider silk to send the steamed porridge down to her.

The children cheered, and some rushed forward, almost diving into the pot to drink.

The crew-cut child struggled to hold the others back, telling someone to go fetch a bowl while letting the one with the spoon step forward, making sure only one person drank at a time to avoid choking.

With food in their hands, the children became much more cooperative. Without Yi Xing asking much, they all started chattering at once.

“Actually, it’s not like there’s no food at all. The Binge occurs once a month, and sometimes even several days in a row. It’s always surrounded by lots of mice, toads, and snakes, if you can catch them, you can eat.”

“Roasted field mice smell delicious.”

“Snakes too!”

“But my mother is gone, and no one will roast field mice for me.”

The children started crying as they talked.

Coaxing children wasn’t Yi Xing’s strong suit. He glanced back and saw An Wumeng and the Painter step forward.

The Painter took out some candy she had, while An Wumeng offered comforting words from beside her.

“What happened? Are all your adults gone?”

Under the onslaught of food, the children still wouldn’t let them enter the cave, but they sniffled and began to explain what had happened.

“They are all dead.”

“Yesterday, a group of bandits came. The adults said they would eat children, so they hid us in advance.”

“The bandits broke into the cave, and many people died.”

“Then the stove tipped over and caught fire. The bandits killed all the adults and took away the last of the food…if it hadn’t rained heavily that night, we would’ve died too, wuwu.”

An Wumeng and the Painter busied themselves comforting the children, while the Pyromancer walked around on guard.

Yi Xing, bored out of his mind, wove flower ropes with the blood spider silk.

The Poison Master walked over and sat beside him, asking, “What are you thinking about?”

Yi Xing asked, “Will those bandits they mentioned ever come back?”

The Poison Master was puzzled, “They’ve already taken all the food, why go back?”

“Eat the children,” Yi Xing said.

“No way?” The Poison Master didn’t quite believe it, “Wasn’t there food? Though mice and stuff are…well, that line was probably just something the adults said to make them hide obediently.”

Yi Xing didn’t think so.

“The Binge only occurs once a month, and rats and snakes are meat, which are difficult to store for a long time unless they are dried or pickled, so food is still very scarce.”

Just by looking at the children’s condition, it was clear that this wasn’t hunger from a day or two, it was the result of long-term food deprivation.

If the children were this starved, the bandits living in the same world couldn’t have been much better off.

In situations of extreme food scarcity, cannibalism was not impossible.

If it weren’t for that fire, the bandits wouldn’t have left the cave so easily. They would’ve not only found the children but might not have spared even the dead adults.

“So what do we do? Isn’t it dangerous for them to stay here?” The Poison Master couldn’t help glancing toward the cave, just as An Wumeng walked over.

An Wumeng said, “Let’s set up camp nearby and stay for a while.”

“To protect them?” Poison Master thought An Wumeng had overheard their conversation, “But we still don’t have any clue about the key.”

“Protect them?” An Wumeng raised an eyebrow, as if he’d just realized something, and said,

“Not entirely. Binge appears once a month. It should be the Hunter of this dungeon, appearing to hunt down Survivors.”

“We’ve already entered the dungeon, so it won’t be long before it finds us.”

“Then hurry and run?!” The Poison Master sprang up, “If we know the Hunter is coming, we need to hurry and find the key! We don’t even know what the key is yet.”

An Wumeng smiled,“In a dungeon with a fixed hunter like this, who would know what the ‘key’ is and where it is better than the hunter itself?”

Yi Xing was surprised that An Wumeng’s views were so similar to his own, and couldn’t help but take another look at him.

“But even if the Hunter knows what the ‘key’ is, there’s no way it would tell us,” Poison Master said.

“My talent will tell me everything.”

“Just beat him until he talks.”

An Wumeng and Yi Xing spoke almost simultaneously.
