“Emperor, I’ve become more beautiful!”

…

As the night deepened, the voices gradually died down.

There was a “bang” sound as the sliding glass door between the living room and the balcony flung open. Half a leg stepped out of the door and landed on the balcony.

And on the other side of the door, there was nothing.

Yi Xing, who was sitting at the dining table, watched with interest.

From his angle, he could see that the upper part of that leg had vanished without a trace. Where the leg met the doorframe, there was only a dark, gaping hole, as if something had sliced it clean off, leaving behind a black wound.

It seemed to be the use of some kind of spatial ability.

Using the door to achieve spatial teleportation.

As the leg touched the ground, a burly man with a straight, upright posture stepped out.

The burly man looked around, spotted the little blue mushrooms in the planter, raised an eyebrow, and shook his head with a sigh, “Yo, it’s only been a short while since I last saw you, and you’ve ended up like this? You’re really disgracing us Hunters.”

“Isn’t it just because that Taotie bastard happens to counter my talent?”

The mushroom turned its cap, and the lines forming its eyes glanced toward the man’s back, “Why are you the only one here? Didn’t you bring the others along?”

“I brought one,” the burly man replied, turning to look behind him with a hint of puzzlement on his face, “Insect Master? Why haven’t you come out yet?”

A female voice came from behind the door.

“My babies are a bit nervous, so I’ll head back first. Forget about the points.”

“We’re already here, why are you leaving now?”

As the burly man spoke, he raised his hand and reached into the doorway, half of his arm disappeared. With a forceful pull, he yanked out a long-haired woman carrying a large wooden chest on her back.

The woman called the Insect Master shook off the burly man’s hand and turned to walk back through the door, but instead of leaving, she passed through it and ended up in the living room.

The “door” was closed.

Yi Xing propped his chin up with one hand as he looked at her, or, more precisely, at the wooden box on her back.

A lot of food was emitting an enticing aroma towards him.

Sensing Yi Xing’s desire, the little octopus perched on his shoulder began to stir eagerly.

Yi Xing pressed a finger to his lips, making a gesture for silence.

Wait a little longer, let’s see if any other Hunters show up.

Once all the Hunters arrived, he would use the space to lock them all up at home.

If he opened the space too early and blocked the other incoming Hunters outside, that would be pretty awkward.

A buzzing sound came from the wooden box behind her. The Insect Master looked around, puzzled as to why this place made her little babies so resistant.

But she saw nothing.

The Insect Master turned to the burly man who had closed the “door” to stop her from leaving, her expression darkening, “What do you mean by this?”

The burly man raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, “No need to leave so soon, we’ll deal with that Survivor first. No point in turning down 50 points for nothing.”

The woman forcibly suppressed the irritation in her heart, raised her hand to gently stroke the wooden box on her back, and let out a faint, insect-like buzzing sound with her tongue. Only when the noise inside the box quieted down did she withdraw her hand.

She looked at the mushroom and said,

“My babies don’t like it here. When will the Survivor come back?”

Mushroom needed her to deal with Taotie, so it could only try to appease her, “Calm down for now. It’s already so late, he’ll have to come home eventually.”

The woman snorted coldly and agreed reluctantly.

Mushroom breathed a sigh of relief and asked the burly man, “What about Binge and Shadow? Aren’t they coming?”

The burly man said, “Binge’s got a run coming up this month, he’s busy eating. Shadow won’t budge, so he told me to dump the Survivor at his place.”

“So that means…only the two of you came to my place tonight? That’s a bit too few.”

“Two Hunters going after a single Survivor is already ridiculous. Don’t tell me you’ve been scared silly by that Survivor,” the burly man said angrily, then suddenly realized the voice wasn’t the Mushroom’s.

The sound came from the living room.

“Who’s there?!” The Insect Master immediately went on high alert, because as the voice appeared, her little babies began to stir noticeably.

The mushroom was struck by lightning, and it would never forget that voice, “Taotie!”

The burly man’s expression darkened as he stepped into the living room.

The living room was empty, yet the voice had clearly come from inside.

Yi Xing walked past the burly man, came up behind the Insect Master, and reached out his hand.

With a click, the lock on the wooden box was undone.

The Insect Master spun around suddenly, a dagger sliding from her sleeve into her hand. She swung it fiercely, thrusting it forward.

Yi Xing didn’t dodge. Instead, a rapidly extending tentacle shot out, aiming to wrap around the Insect Master’s hand.

It came back empty-handed.

It wasn’t that the Insect Master dodged, the tentacle passed right through her arm, as if slicing through air.

“Eh?” The little octopus’s mind was still puzzled about why it hadn’t grabbed anything, when it saw the dagger poised to stab Yi Xing’s neck.

Instinctively, it lunged forward, its body swelling several times in size, tentacles and head clutching tightly onto Yi Xing’s neck.

The dagger passed through the little octopus’s body and Yi Xing’s neck as well, just as if it were slicing through air.

Yi Xing reached out and yanked the little octopus off his neck.

His spatial ability’s new application worked perfectly. He existed within this space, yet remained independent of it.

He only connected with this space when he wanted to interact with the things within it.

Yi Xing stepped forward, coming up beside the Insect Master as she looked on in confusion, and raised his hand to open the wooden box.

A swarm of variously shaped insects scrambled and flew out of the wooden box.

Yi Xing had never seen insects that looked so abstract.

Some looked like tufts of hair, some like eyes with long wings, and others like feathers…all sorts of shapes, strange and fantastical.

The insects scattered in all directions, some landed on the Bug Master, some swarmed the burly man’s face, and others burrowed into the planter, causing the mushroom to squeal loudly.

But most of them still surged toward the window, frantically trying to escape from the area.

“Babies!” The Insect Master didn’t have time to care about her screaming companion. She hurriedly dashed toward the wall, pulled out her supernatural tool shaped like white silk gloves, put them on, and caught the insects that fell after hitting the glass.

Several rapidly extending tentacles shot out from Yi Xing’s shoulders, striking at the largest insects.

Yi Xing carefully controlled his spatial ability and allowed the little octopus to catch those insects.

“Emperor, eat it.” The little octopus handed the insect to Yi Xing like a treasure.

“Don’t worry, insects taste better after being fried.” Yi Xing said.

“Oh oh!” The little octopus grabbed the insect and nodded, not quite understanding it.

From the perspective of the three Hunters, they could only see several tentacles appear out of thin air and then vanish just as suddenly.

“What is that?” The Insect Master saw her precious babies being taken and was so furious she almost wanted to tear the mushroom apart.

The mushroom had mentioned before that only the Survivor was here, and the Survivor’s ability was blood spider silk; he definitely didn’t grow tentacles!

“Looks like…that Hunter.” Although the tentacles appearing this time were much smaller than last night, the mushroom couldn’t think of any other possibility.

Feeling something gnawing at its stalk in the soil, the mushroom squealed loudly and shouted,

“Insect Master! Hurry up and put away these insects!”

The Insect Master wanted to gather them up, but the insects, startled, wouldn’t obey her at all.

Her level wasn’t high enough to control so many insects at once. The quickest solution, then, was to rely on their natural closeness to her and manually catch them, sending them back into the wooden box.

Seeing that the Bug Master couldn’t take care of her, Mushroom turned to the burly man, “Gatekeeper, take me away first!”

The burly Gatekeeper, who had been moving back and forth through the doors, wore a solemn expression and said, “We can’t leave. A spatial ability user has restricted this area.”

The Gatekeeper’s ability was related to space, so he understood better than the Mushroom or the previous delivery guy what the spatial barrier meant. As a result, his expression grew even darker.

“Tentacle, space-based ability user, how much information have you hidden, Mushroom?”

Insects were everywhere, her insects. Even the Hunter didn’t want to get anywhere near them.

Who knew which insect could make someone lose their mind, and which one might devour its host’s flesh?

The Gatekeeper couldn’t locate Yi Xing hidden within the space. After several failed attempts to connect to the outside doors, his temper grew increasingly short, and his thoughts began to turn extreme.

He suddenly opened the door, appeared on the balcony, and strode toward the mushroom in the planter.

“Mushroom, do you want us to help you kill that escapee, or are you deliberately luring us here to be trapped?” The Gatekeeper reached out toward the mushroom.

“No, I didn’t! You’re accusing me unfairly!” the Mushroom shouted, trying to dodge. But in its current state, there was nowhere it could hide from the Gatekeeper.

However, the Gatekeeper didn’t touch it. His hand froze midair as several strands of blood spider silk wrapped around his arm, forcibly stopping him.

The Gatekeeper was even more convinced that Mushroom was in cahoots with those people in the dark, and that they had tricked them into coming here by killing survivors and giving them points, just to harm them.

“Ha! Seems I really misjudged this.”

The Gatekeeper turned around and saw Yi Xing emerging from the space. The blood spider silk extending from his fingertips already revealed his identity.

The Survivor, Taotie.

Then, looking at his strikingly handsome face, a flicker of disdain passed through the Gatekeeper’s eyes.

He was nothing more than a rookie Survivor attached to a Hunter.

He had killed at least fifteen Survivors, if not twenty. He didn’t take such people who depended on others for survival seriously.

He averted his gaze, no longer looking at Yi Xing, and raised his head to speak loudly:

“Great Hunter with spatial abilities, please allow me to follow you. My usefulness is ten thousand times greater than that of Mushroom or this guy.”

Yi Xing couldn’t help laughing.

He moved his fingers, and the blood spider silk tightened, cutting the Gatekeeper’s arm.

The scream instantly filled the entire house. Yi Xing was grateful he had set up a spatial barrier. Otherwise, the neighbors would surely have called the police for disturbing the peace.

“How dare you…” The Gatekeeper clutched his severed arm, murderous intent blazing in his eyes as he stared at Yi Xing. He lunged forward and swung a fist at Yi Xing’s face.

Yi Xing casually caught his punch, a faint, almost teasing smile on his face as he looked at the Gatekeeper’s wrist and murmured,

“Gatekeeper, your talent is to teleport through doors. If you lose your hands that open doors, will you still be able to use your talent?”

Yi Xing twisted his wrist, and another scream, nearly shattering eardrums, erupted.

Behind Yi Xing, the Insect Master took advantage of the screams as cover. She let out a buzzing insect sound and controlled an eyeball-shaped insect to fly toward the side of Yi Xing’s neck.

Just as the eyeball-shaped insect was about to touch Yi Xing’s skin, a red poppy flower bloomed on the side of his neck, and a small octopus emerged from it.

The insect landed on the little octopus’s head and instantly merged into its body.

“Eh? The food is gone.” The little octopus raised his hand and touched his head, his eyes full of confusion.

Yi Xing turned around, picked up the little octopus on his shoulder, and examined it. He couldn’t find any trace of the insect, it seemed to have already fused into the octopus’s flesh and blood.

He lifted his gaze toward the Insect Master and asked coldly, “What kind of insect was that?”

The Insect Master raised her hand to tuck back a strand of hair, allowing the hair-like worm hidden within her locks to bite her fingertip and merge into her body.

She smiled and said, “Guess.”

As her voice fell, a rapidly spinning black wormhole suddenly appeared behind her, pulling her in and swallowing her whole.

The wormhole disappeared.

Yi Xing concentrated his mind and perceived.

The Insect Master had indeed left, she had escaped from within his spatial confinement.

How did she leave? Even the Gatekeeper, who also had space-based abilities, couldn’t leave.

Yi Xing walked to the spot where the wormhole had vanished. Raising his hand, he spread out strands of blood-red spider silk, letting them brush against the air to sense the lingering trace of the wormhole’s presence.

In addition to space, there was also a kind of energy residue.

It was…time.

The wormhole wasn’t connected to a single space, it was connected to time itself.

“What a pity…”

A Hunter who could produce so much food actually got away.

The dream of having food freedom was still a long way off.

Yi Xing sighed and turned to look at the Gatekeeper, who was wailing on the ground.

After losing his hands, his supernatural powers seemed to be truly useless.

After losing both hands, his talent seemed to have truly become useless.

“I’ll leave him to you,” Yi Xing said to the little octopus on his shoulder.

“As you command!”

With a soft “pa-ji” sound, the little octopus dropped to the ground and stretched out its tentacles.

Yi Xing’s gaze swept over it, and suddenly froze, “Your tentacles…”

On the little octopus’s tentacles, the neatly arranged pale suckers had transformed into rows of glassy golden beads, each bead containing a narrow vertical blue pupil at its center.

At a glance, it looked as though its tentacles were covered with tiny glass marble.

The little octopus lifted a tentacle for a look and let out a surprised little “Eh?”

Then it looked up excitedly and said, “Emperor, I’ve become even prettier!”

On each side of its head, two additional golden eyes had appeared in its sockets.

The three eyes in each socket were arranged in a triangular pattern.

Yi Xing was silent for a moment. Seeing that the little octopus was in good spirits and even seemed pleased with its bodily changes, he could only say,

“Just be happy.”
