…
Yi Xing fell silent.
He had been human for so long that he had forgotten that the Aliens were a race that could offer everything to support the Alien King.
Even among its entire species, an alien that had mistakenly thought it was going to be eaten yet still eagerly went up to others was still a truly strange one.
Yi Xing set the little octopus aside and decided to skip the question of how to eat it.
It’s not like he didn’t have other food, there was still a takeaway from last night that he hadn’t touched.
“Where’s the takeaway from last night?” Yi Xing asked.
The little octopus took a moment to understand the word ‘takeaway,’ then quickly separated more than a dozen energy orbs from its body. Although they were much smaller than yesterday’s, there were a lot more of them.
Yi Xing took one look and immediately made a decision, “We’ll have Tangyuan for breakfast.”
He took a bowl and gathered up the energy orbs, skipped over the sink that had turned into a hotpot broth, and went to the clean sink next to it. Turning on the water, he rinsed the simple energy orbs.
The little octopus crawled across the kitchen island, following closely behind Yi Xing, matching his every move.
Seeing Yi Xing finish washing the energy orbs and leave, it quickly stretched out a tiny tentacle, mimicked Yi Xing’s actions to turn on the faucet, and jumped under the running water to wash itself clean.
Focused entirely on the food, Yi Xing filled half a pot with water, turned on the stove, warmed the water, then tossed in the energy orbs and let them boil over high heat.
There’s nothing wrong with boiling tangyuan in plain water, but it just feels a little bland.
Yi Xing left the kitchen and went to the balcony.
The mushroom, napping in the sunlight, was startled awake by the sound of the door opening. The two eyes on its cap, which had been narrowed into thin lines, instantly snapped open. When it saw Yi Xing, an exaggerated look of surprise appeared on its simple, cartoon-like face.
“You’re still alive?!”
Yi Xing wasn’t exactly used to talking with his ingredients. He stepped up to the planter and reached out his hand toward the mushroom.
“Oh, you dare touch me?” The Mushroom straightened its stalk, “I’ll have you know I spent a fortune on a deadly poison, one touch and you die!”
No sooner had it finished speaking than the mushroom’s simple, sketch-like expression cracked apart.
Truly. Cracked. Apart.
Yi Xing tore off half of its mushroom cap.
Mushroom:”?!!”
“Y-You—you actually dared to destroy my new body!” The Mushroom was so angry it almost leapt out of the dirt.
If not for its fragile new body losing half of its cap and becoming too weak to leave the soil, it would have already done so.
Utterly weakened, it couldn’t do anything, it could only fix its gaze on Yi Xing, hoping that under the poison’s effect, he would vomit blood and die just like the delivery man who showed up last night.
But nothing happened, Yi Xing’s expression didn’t even change.
Yi Xing reached out and grabbed at the air, and a vial of green potion appeared in his hand.
He pulled out the stopper and poured it all over the mushroom.
“This feeling…it’s you?” The Mushroom’s only remaining eye widened, “You’re the one who sped up my revival?”
“You mean this potion?” Yi Xing gave the empty vial a little shake, “No need to thank me. It’s just what any farmer would do.”
Mushroom: “?”
“What do you take me for?” The Mushroom was furious.
“Didn’t you get it? The vegetables I grow,” Yi Xing’s fingers brushed over the scallion sprouts, “are just like them.”
The Mushroom was so angry it nearly puffed up, “I—I’m a Hunter!’”
“Oh, I hope you grow up soon, Hunter Mushroom.”
After saying this, Yi Xing turned and left the balcony.
He sincerely hoped the mushroom would recover soon, and ideally, grow as big as it used to be.
Back in the kitchen, Yi Xing washed the mushroom slices and was about to put them into the pot when his eyes froze.
In the boiling water, a cluster of plump ‘tangyuan’ pressed together, a dozen or so white ones surrounding a single, brightly colored, chili-red ‘tangyuan’.
Yi Xing fell silent for a moment, then picked up his chopsticks and lifted out the red ‘tangyuan’.
“What are you doing?”
Fortunately, the water was only just above boiling, not enough to cook a body-enhanced sea monster in just a few minutes.
The red tangyuan, with many tiny tentacles dangling down, stirred slightly and opened its two sesame-like black eyes, saying obediently, “Making breakfast for the Emperor.”
Seeing the freshly washed piece of mushroom in Yi Xing’s hand, the little octopus seemed to realize something and hurriedly explained,
“Emperor, I made sure to wash myself clean before jumping into the pot.”
Yi Xing:“……”
He tossed the little octopus aside to cool off, then threw the mushroom slices into the pot.
The little octopus climbed up onto the pot handle and stretched its neck to peek at the boiling water below, only to be immediately pushed back by a pair of chopsticks.
“Emperor, is it not my turn to go into the pot yet?”
The little octopus looked up and asked, “Should I wash myself again?”
“I’m not so poor that I need to eat you to satisfy my hunger.”
Yi Xing took a bowl and scooped out the “tangyuan” and mushroom slices.
He glanced at the little octopus, hesitated for a moment, then took out a small dish again, scooped up one of the ‘tangyuan,’ and called out,
“Let’s go eat outside.”
One person and one octopus sat opposite each other at the dining table.
Yi Xing scooped up a ‘tangyuan’ with his spoon, put it into his mouth, and relaxed his brows in satisfaction.
On the other side of the table, the little octopus huffed and puffed as it climbed up, then suctioned itself onto the edge of the dish.
It lifted its head to look at Yi Xing. Only when it didn’t receive his gaze or an order did it reach out a small tentacle, pick up a ‘tangyuan,’ and stuff it into the mouth between its tentacles, letting out a satisfied sigh right after.
“The food made by the emperor is really delicious.”
On the balcony, the mushroom regrew the missing half of its cap under the effect of the recovery potion.
It regained its spirit, turned on the light screen and contacted its old friend.
Everything was so peaceful and beautiful.
…
…
…
After resting at home for a day, the next morning, An Wumeng, dark circles under his eyes, came to visit Yixing in person to confirm the contribution points from the last dungeon and to ask whether he was interested in moving to a different place.
“Change residence?” Yi Xing was a little surprised that An Wumeng actually knew what he was thinking.
He was indeed planning to move.
He wanted to lure more Hunters into delivering takeout, but there were too many people in this neighborhood. Not every Hunter could sneak into his home like the deliveryman had, and it would be troublesome if any of them accidentally hurt other residents.
An Wumeng replied,
“Here’s the thing, the Bureau provides protection for registered survivors and their families. Each medium to large city has designated Survivor zones.”
“We’ve learned that your adoptive parents were killed in a plane crash four years ago. You live alone now. We’d like to ask if you’d be willing to move to the Survivor center in Haicheng.”
“Survivor zones…how many survivors are there in the entire Haicheng? Three hundred? Five hundred?” Yi Xing asked.
“Not that many. There are 110 registered survivors, of whom 88 have joined the Bureau. These figures are only up to this morning,” An Wumeng said with a low sigh, the dark circles under his eyes seeming even darker.
Leaving aside the newcomers tied to the Paradise each day, there were only a little over a hundred experienced Survivors.
Based on a dungeon frequency of once a month, an average of three Survivors have to enter a dungeon each day. Once they enter, life and death are unpredictable.
Therefore, the number of Survivors changes almost daily.
“There are too many people.” Yi Xing said.
An Wumeng was momentarily stunned. After confirming that the other person meant ‘too many’ rather than ‘too few,’ he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of concern.
He had seen Yi Xing eat Hunters, he looked at them as if they were delicious food.
He had also seen Yi Xing hunting down the octopus villagers. Even when they had scattered in all directions, he patiently tracked them down one by one and killed them.
Then there was that time with the ‘Racer’, just a change in a glance, and he could act without hesitation.
Within the Bureau, Yi Xing received high marks in all aspects.
Including talent, ability, temperament, and…level of danger.
“Really? Do you think it’s a lot?” An Wumeng asked carefully.
What he really wanted to ask was, ‘You don’t want the number of Survivors to be high?’
Do you wish…there were fewer Survivors?
“Hmm,” Yi Xing nodded slightly. “I want to live alone, preferably with no one within several hundred meters. Do you have a place like that available?”
It didn’t matter if they didn’t. Points could be exchanged for currency at a 1:1000 rate on the screen, and he’d saved up some money from streaming over the years, enough to move to a new place.
An Wumeng was silent for a moment, then asked, “So you just want to live alone. You don’t think there are too many survivors, and you want to reduce their number?”
“Why would I think that?” Yi Xing glanced at him with slight confusion and said, “The more Survivors there are, the more I can exchange contribution points for supernatural items. Why would I ever complain about there being too many Survivors?”
What Yi Xing didn’t say was that he likewise wouldn’t mind having many Hunters, no one ever complains about having too much food.
An Wumeng relaxed and smiled, “You’re right. The more Survivors providing supernatural items, the more items there will be, and the fewer contribution points needed for exchanges. The same amount of points can get you more supernatural items.”
“Living alone, with no one within several hundred meters, I’ve noted it. I’ll have the relevant team find a similar detached villa for you when I get back.”
An Wumeng spoke as he stood up. Before leaving, he couldn’t help but take a few more glances at the unusually styled kitchen partition door, “Your door is quite unique.”
Yi Xing looked over as well and said, “The longer you look at it, the more pleasing it is to the eye.”
Especially since the pitch-black door blocked the view of the kitchen, preventing An Wumeng from seeing the hotpot base and the octopus in the sink.
After seeing An Wumeng off, Yi Xing turned on the light screen to look for space props.
The little octopus couldn’t keep living in the kitchen; it needed a more hidden place to stay.
Finally, Yi Xing spent 100 points to redeem a space item that looked like a tattoo.
The space inside wasn’t large, only the size of a swimming pool, but Yi Xing possessed spatial abilities and could try to expand it a second time.
The exchange completed, and a red piece of paper shaped like a poppy fell into Yi Xing’s hand.
Just stick it on your body to activate the space.
Yi Xing entered the kitchen, picked up a colander, stirred the soup at the bottom of the hot pot, and took out the sleepy little octopus.
“Tell me, where do you want to live on my body?” Yi Xing asked.
The little octopus immediately woke up and looked at Yi Xing’s head eagerly.
Before the little octopus could speak, Yi Xing, seeing through its thoughts, said, “No, pick another one.”
He couldn’t bear to have a tattoo on his scalp.
The little octopus lowered its gaze and timidly looked at Yi Xing’s neck.
It must be very comfortable to lie on the emperor’s neck.
Following its gaze, Yi Xing looked at his own neck, felt he could barely tolerate it, and pressed the paper onto the side of his neck.
A few seconds later, the paper transformed into an exquisite poppy tattoo, etched on the side of Yi Xing’s neck.
Yi Xing divided the space inside the tattoo in two: one half filled with clear water, the other half, using some points, filled with the hotpot broth the little octopus liked.
He said to the little octopus, “Clean yourself before going in, and from now on, make sure you clean yourself before coming out too.”
I really don’t understand this little guy’s taste, he actually likes a nest styled like hotpot broth.
This was definitely not influenced by the genes of alien ancestors or sea monsters. Could it…be his own genes?
Yi Xing fell silent.
He did like hotpot, but he would never think of turning an entire house into hotpot broth. Let’s just chalk it up to this little guy’s genetic mutation.
“Emperor, don’t you like my scent?” The little octopus sounded a bit hurt.
Yi Xing wasn’t one to coddle younglings.
He liked hotpot, but that didn’t mean he liked getting it smeared all over himself.
However, as an alien hatchling, the little octopus had excellent self-regulation skills.
It quickly composed itself, jumped off the strainer on its own, crawled to the clean sink, and turned on the water to wash itself.
Soon, the joy of being able to live on the emperor’s neck wiped away all its gloomy feelings. The little octopus repeatedly hopped back and forth between the space and Yi Xing’s neck.
Seeing that the little octopus obeyed him and always entered and exited cleanly, Yi Xing didn’t interrupt its fun.
Yi Xing happened to glance at the mirror and noticed that the tattoo was usually invisible, only appearing for a while when the little octopus went in or out.
Good concealment.
It would be nice if he could stay hidden most of the time and only appear when he wanted to be seen.
This way, he could approach his prey more easily and eat as much as he wanted in front of others without restraint.
If it were in the past, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to do these things.
Now that he has spatial abilities, it might not be impossible.
Yi Xing activated his spatial ability, creating around himself a space that was independent of the world yet still connected to it.
His reflection vanished from the mirror, but the images of the objects around him reflected in it were all distorted.
Yi Xing had no choice but to adjust the space carefully.
By the time he had adjusted the space so there would be no mistakes or leaks, it was already evening.
The Mushroom’s voice came from the balcony.
“…Taotie is all alone. You’re all experienced Hunters, and I’ve given you the intel, are you still afraid you won’t be able to take him down?”
“…he won’t be home right now, the house has been quiet for a long time. Really, would I lie to you? Hurry and teleport over, set up an ambush.”
“If you manage to kill the Taotie, I’ll give each of you 50 points. Even if you fail, if you bring me out, I’ll still give you 10 points!”
Yi Xing stood quietly by the balcony, listening, while the little octopus lay on his head, puffing up in anger at the Mushroom’s words.
A tentacle extended, the short limb silently growing bigger and longer.
Yi Xing grabbed the tentacle it had extended, stopping its movement.
He was still counting on the mushroom to help him lure Hunters; he couldn’t let it get into trouble.
Raising the mushroom and letting it bait the Hunters was much easier than luring them over himself.
