Chapter 51: Work (Slight R-19)

After a brief moment of satisfaction, Zhao Xunyu took Chu Zhi Lu out to dinner. During the meal, he learned that his father had bought him a car in advance.

Casually feeding his girlfriend a piece of fruit, Zhao Xunyu asked, “Isn’t Dad worried I’ll run off as soon as I get the car? I guess I’m more trustworthy in his eyes than I thought.”

Chu Zhi Lu, her head bent over her phone, gave a perfunctory “Mm.”

She was busy checking his phone.

Zhao Xunyu couldn’t remember when she had developed this habit. He vaguely recalled it being a very ordinary day. He was working on his computer when she casually said, “I’ll take your phone for a bit.”

Without a second thought, he reached behind him, handed her his phone, and didn’t ask what she wanted it for. She took the phone and sat down on the sofa, and nothing else happened.

Much later, he realized that she had been checking up on him. They were sitting on the sofa, with Chu Zhi Lu leaning against him, when she naturally reached out and said, “I want to see your phone.”

“Sure thing,” he replied, handing her his phone and kissing the top of her head.

With nothing else to do, he looked down at her to see what she was up to. He watched her scroll through his WeChat chat list and tap open a conversation. Initially oblivious, he asked eagerly, “Who are you looking for?”

Chu Zhi Lu tilted her head back from his embrace and gave him a flat, wordless look. It wasn’t until she opened a third conversation, this time with a woman, that he finally realized what was happening. “Chu Zhizhi, are you checking up on me?!”

Chu Zhi Lu didn’t even look up. “Is that not allowed?”

“Of course it is. It’s just that you’re doing it so openly and confidently, like you have a search warrant. I never considered that you were checking up on me!” Then, with exaggerated enthusiasm, he began explaining his interactions with each person whose name appeared on the screen. He detailed why he had exchanged messages with them.

After a few minutes, Chu Zhi Lu silently stood up, turned off the screen, and handed the phone back to him. “Done.”

“Wait, that’s it? You barely scrolled through the interface! You haven’t even checked my other social media apps!” Zhao Xunyu shoved the phone back into her hands.

“…” Chu Zhi Lu stared at him, speechless. If she didn’t know him so well, she would have sworn he was being sarcastic.

Here he was being checked up on, yet he was practically giddy with excitement, eagerly assisting and guiding her through every app on his phone. Then, puffing out his ch*st with pride, he declared, “I haven’t been fooling around behind your back and embarrassing you, have I?”

Chu Zhi Lu tapped back into WeChat and opened her chat with Xu Qingchen. “You’re not allowed to send this emoji to anyone else.”

It was a cute kitten making a heart with its paws.

“Okay,” he replied, his voice as gentle as his heart.

Chu Zhi Lu handed him her phone.

Zhao Xunyu long-pressed the kitten heart emoji pack and clicked delete. Then, he sent Xu Qingchen a message: Delete the emoticon pack of the kitten making a heart shape that I sent you from the chat history.

Xu Qingchen: ?

Zhao Xunyu: You don’t deserve it.

Xu Qingchen: You’re such an idiot.

Zhao Xunyu held back, but after turning off the lights that night and holding Chu Zhi Lu in his arms, he couldn’t help himself. He cautiously asked, “Baby, did I do something to make you feel insecure?”

He mentally reviewed the period leading up to her first phone check, trying to recall anything that might have upset her. He systematically ruled out possibilities but couldn’t pinpoint anything that would have caused her anxiety.

Chu Zhi Lu nestled closer into his embrace. “No.”

“No?” Zhao Xunyu didn’t believe her.

“Checking your phone was just because my possessiveness toward you has grown stronger,” she stated matter-of-factly, without a hint of embarrassment.

“I’ve always been yours. You completely possess me.”

Zhao Xunyu had initially doubted her explanation, but he finally believed her when they later discussed getting a dog. Her reason for checking his phone was really as simple as she claimed.

Around that time, Tang Xiyue, the hidden siscon, had finally managed to get her dog to visit their home occasionally. Chu Zhi Lu patiently played with the dog and trained it with commands, showing a gentleness and softness rarely seen in her usual demeanor.

This sparked Zhao Xunyu’s desire to get a dog, but Chu Zhi Lu immediately rejected the idea.

“Walking, feeding, and bathing the dog would all be my responsibility. You can just play with it whenever you want, without having to worry about anything else.”

“No, our home can only support one of us, and your energy must be focused solely on me.”

Zhao Xunyu chuckled, finding her serious declaration utterly adorable. He leaned in and playfully nipped her cheek. “Why do you even eat dog vinegar?”

So d*mn cute.

***

At around eight in the evening, Chu Zhi Lu arrived to pick Zhao Xunyu up from work for dinner.

They chose a quiet, elegant Western restaurant. Their table was by a floor-to-ceiling window, with an attractive glass storage wall showcasing a full array of wines behind it. Next to that was a wall about half a person’s height, woven with vines and flowers. The tables were widely spaced to create beautiful, private booths.

Soft, romantic music played, and candlelight flickered warmly.

However, Zhao Xunyu barely managed a few bites before pulling out his phone to respond to work messages. The event had ended, but the wrap-up tasks were still underway.

“Eat first,” Chu Zhi Lu urged.

“Mm-hmm, Zhizhi, you go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for me. I’ll be done in a minute.”

Chu Zhi Lu pursed her lips, clearly displeased. She set down her utensils and waited, but Zhao Xunyu remained engrossed in his phone. Taking matters into her own hands, she quietly slipped off her right shoe. Her straight, purposeful bare leg began to drift under the table toward Zhao Xunyu’s side.

Zhao Xunyu had been sitting upright with his legs pressed together. When her foot brushed against his, he instinctively parted his legs, freeing his left hand to grasp her ankle and steady her foot firmly on his thigh.

However, Chu Zhi Lu’s foot refused to stay put. She wriggled free of his grip, tracing slow, teasing circles with her toes as they crept upward. By the time Zhao Xunyu realized what was happening, her foot had come to rest between his legs. When he glanced at her, she pressed down deliberately, as if to assert her dominance.

He felt a surge of  blood rush from his heart, swiftly and powerfully coursing through his limbs before pooling in his lower abdomen.

A single movement, a single glance, and his body responded instantly. Though his phone was in his hand, his mind had already abandoned all thoughts of work.

Chu Zhi Lu, feigning innocence as if nothing were amiss beneath the table, asked, “Are you done with work?”

Zhao Xunyu replied pointedly, “Eat properly and get full. If you’re hungry tonight, don’t expect me to stop and find you food.”

Misjudging her pressure, Chu Zhi Lu rubbed her foot back and forth over his er*ction. The heat there surged, growing harder almost instantly.

Zhao Xunyu’s grip on his phone loosened, and it clattered against the table. He clicked his tongue in annoyance but ignored it. Circling Chu Zhi Lu’s ankle with one hand, he slapped her delicate instep twice with the other. “Looking for trouble, huh?”

Undeterred, Chu Zhi Lu poured fuel on the fire. Her voice was soft and suggestive as she lingered on the final syllable, saying, “Looking… for a f*ck.”

Zhao Xunyu hissed.

Fine.

“You asked for this.”

Forgetting their meal, he pulled her swiftly toward the parking lot. He slid into the driver’s seat and she into the passenger seat. Without fastening their seatbelts, Zhao Xunyu leaned close with his arm around her waist and kissed her fiercely across the center console. His assault was relentless, as if he were terrified that she might find a moment to breathe.

Chu Zhi Lu retreated under the force of the kiss, only to be pulled back by another firm hand. The position was incredibly uncomfortable, and Chu Zhi Lu’s lack of cooperation made Zhao Xunyu feel like he was suffering more than punishing her. Breathing heavily, he released her, twisted his neck, and kept his hand clamped on her shoulder. “Why do you keep dodging? It’s straining my neck.”

Chu Zhi Lu leaned back, muffling her laughter against the headrest.

“Sit up straight,” said Zhao Xunyu, leaning over to help her fasten her seatbelt.

Chu Zhi Lu sat up straight, wrapped her arms around his lowered head, and kissed his temple. “Should we do it here? Aren’t you uncomfortable?”

Zhao Xunyu was indeed uncomfortable. His little brother was certainly feeling sorry for himself today, but Zhao Xunyu wasn’t keen on doing the real thing out in the open. Even though there were no cameras in the car and no one could see inside, he still felt uneasy.

The uncontrollable situation at noon still made him cautious, and his heart raced as he remained vigilant about his surroundings.

Right now, he just wanted to teleport home.

Zhao Xunyu reluctantly put down her arm, pulled the seatbelt, and buckled it for her. “Stay still.”

Chu Zhi Lu reached down and rubbed his eager little brother’s head. “Right here.”

Zhao Xunyu brushed her hand aside ruthlessly and flicked at the half-exposed, snow-white br*ast she had flaunted deliberately. His eyes held a mix of threat and warning. “If you’re not afraid of me f*cking you senseless tonight, then keep playing games.”
