Chapter 10

The light at the intersection turned green. Less than a hundred meters from the hospital, the black sedan suddenly made a U-turn, heading in the exact opposite direction.

“Eldest Young Master, the people from the Tingtian residence didn’t follow.”

The car left the main urban district and entered the coastal municipal tunnel. After repeatedly checking the rearview mirror, Xing Shi reported to the Eldest Young Master in the back seat.

Xing Cheng said nothing.

He raised his right hand, slowly spreading his five fingers, carefully examining the back of his hand.

Slender, long, sickly pale.

Under the dim tunnel lights, the bluish veins stood out clearly.

It was this very hand that had pinned that little doctor within inches of space. As if with just a little more force, he could have easily snapped his neck.

He clearly knew he was ill, and that his outbursts were terrifying. Yet that man still dared to lock the bathroom door from the inside and play along with his absurd one-man performance.

An utterly foolish creature.

Xing Cheng held his breath, forcefully suppressing the sudden surge of restlessness in his chest.

The sedan moved silently through the tunnel, the lighting in the rear seat dim.

He lifted his wrist, turning his palm upward, using five fingers to clasp his neck, then tightened them hard.

His nails dug into his skin. Accompanied by the stinging pain in his throat, Xing Cheng felt a powerful sense of suffocation.

Leaning back against the car seat, his pale neck tilted slightly upward, and an unbearable wave of pleasure surged in his chest.

The frightened little prey couldn’t escape, only stare helplessly as the monster before it bared its fangs and devoured it whole.

A futile resistance destined for nothing. Was it this, the suffering struggle of prey in hand, that thrilled him so?

No. It wasn’t.

Before the little prey lost consciousness, he had seen it, that strong will to survive, bursting from within him.

Because he couldn’t breathe, his eyes had already begun to roll back. But those two hands still desperately tried to pry open Xing Cheng’s grip. Those pain-filled eyes, glassy from suffocation, kept locking with his gaze, as if silently pleading:

[Mr. Xing.]

[You’re not a monster. You don’t want to hurt me.]

It was that sudden eruption of life force, that gaze refusing to yield to fate, that pulled him back from the edge of darkness.

Sunlight slanted in through the tunnel’s exit. Unaccustomed to the shift from dark to bright, Xing Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly and slowly released his grip on his own throat.

The hard-won pleasure faded quickly, leaving a hollow emptiness inside once again.

He could no longer recreate the emotions of last night.

“Eldest Young Master, just two more blocks to go.”

Seeing they were about to exit the tunnel, Xing Shi reminded him softly.

He hadn’t noticed Xing Cheng’s actions just now, only thought that, perhaps due to the recent episode, the Eldest Young Master seemed even quieter than usual today.

“Double the compensation for that doctor,” Xing Cheng said.
“Discharge procedures next week.”

Xing Shi turned back in slight surprise. “Eldest Young Master, your legs haven’t fully recovered yet. The rehabilitation department said it’ll be at least another half a month before discharge can even be considered.”

Xing Shi was silently groaning inside at this moment.

The Eldest Young Master’s legs still couldn’t move freely, and his mental condition hadn’t shown much improvement either. Leaving the hospital now wouldn’t be good for his recovery, that was the first reason.

Second, Chairman Xing had previously given special instructions: to delay as long as possible and try to keep the young master in the hospital a while longer.

If the young master really returned to the main residence now, with all four of the current generation’s “Xing Family Devils” gathered under one roof, the barely stabilized situation might once again be completely overturned.

Xing Cheng’s face remained expressionless. From between his lips, he slowly uttered, “Do as I said.”

“…Yes.”

After giving the order to Xing Shi, Xing Cheng closed his eyes.

He knew Xing Shi was thinking for his sake.

Xing Shi and the men under his command were all left to him by his mother. They were also now trusted aides of Xing Jingshan, none of them harbored divided loyalties.

But he was destined to no longer be able to go on like this.

Lingering in comfort for too long would dull his claws and fangs, turning him into a caged beast at the mercy of others.

He was a monster born to live in the darkness, a snowman made of bitter winds and blizzards, just a sliver of sunlight was enough to scald him.

The road ahead widened. Xing Shi stepped on the accelerator. The black sedan exited the tunnel and drove into the light.

Morning light streamed in through the car window. In Xing Cheng’s mind gradually appeared the image of that little doctor’s puffed-up, angry face.

Let alone being so blatantly illuminated by someone like that.

Blinding.

Yearning too much to stand under the sun, sooner or later, one would melt into a puddle of muck.

He thought, forget it.

—

The black sedan pulled into the parking lot in front of the Haibo Shipping Group building. The security guard at the gate, upon seeing the Xing Corporation logo on the car’s front, quickly dialed the main line.

“Hello, Secretary Gao?”

“There’s a car from Wanhai Group at the gate. Should be here to see President Xing—”

After hanging up the phone, Secretary Gao clacked hurriedly across the glass floor in her high heels, rushing into the elevator up to the top floor. Her heels tapped sharply as she walked.

Just as she reached the door of the CEO’s office, she heard a few pitiful, breathy gasps from inside.

“Ah Yu, no, don’t touch there…”

“You think you get to call me Ah Yu?”

A teasing male voice came from within. “It’s one thing for my brother to call me that, but with that filthy mouth of yours, you think you deserve to?”

Then came the sharp sound of a belt being whipped.
The boy inside instantly let out a scream, then began sobbing and apologizing uncontrollably.

“President Xing, I’m sorry! I spoke out of turn, President Xing…”

Arriving in a Wanhai Group car, Secretary Gao could pretty much confirm this was someone from the Xing family’s main household.

Anyone with the Xing surname carried power greater than the next. No matter who it was, none could be treated carelessly. But the boss was clearly in the middle of some… high spirits. Even if she were given a thousand lives, she wouldn’t dare go in and ruin the moment.

She quickly sent a message to the boss’s phone and rushed back downstairs to receive the guest, and maybe buy a bit of time for the boss while she was at it.

Before she reached the elevator, the doors had already begun to slide open.

A black-clad bodyguard stepped out, pushing a wheelchair in front of him.

When she saw the man seated in the wheelchair, Secretary Gao’s eyes widened, she nearly lost her footing.

She stood frozen for several seconds before she snapped out of her shock and opened her mouth stiffly:

“Eldest Y-Young Master Xing…”

Her heart gave a violent jolt.

Even if it had been Chairman Xing, the old master himself, she could still try to smooth things over for her boss. But who would’ve thought the one to come was the eldest young master of the Xing family, the very older brother her boss loathed to the bone.

With his hands resting loosely on the armrests of the wheelchair, Xing Cheng spoke nonchalantly,

“Long time no see, Miss Gao.”

—

As one of Xing Yu’s close aides, she had heard bits and pieces about Xing Cheng over the years.

It was said that ever since his car accident, he had become half-disabled. Yet now, after months apart, the oppressive aura naturally emanating from Eldest Young Master Xing still struck her with tremendous pressure.

Inside the office, the boy’s wretched sobs rang out, but Xing Cheng didn’t even bat an eye, he was clearly used to such scenes.

Xing Shi paid no mind to the stunned Secretary Gao standing off to the side. Following the Eldest Young Master’s instructions, he walked to the office door and entered a six-digit code on the smart lock panel.

Two seconds later, the automatic door slowly opened before everyone’s eyes, and the scene within the office was fully revealed.

Secretary Gao was dumbfounded.

The code for the CEO’s office changed every three days, how did the eldest young master and his bodyguard know it?

Before she could recover from her shock, an angry roar came from inside the office.

A large onyx base came flying out from within. Xing Cheng tilted his head slightly and dodged it. The object crashed heavily into the glass wall behind the wheelchair.

Moments later, a shirtless boy carrying a few flimsy garments came stumbling and scrambling out of the office.

Tear tracks streaked the boy’s delicate face. His chest was mottled with bruises, blue and purple. Anyone could tell he had just been abused.

As he staggered past the wheelchair, his panic-stricken steps caught on the wheelchair’s armrest. Losing his balance, he fell to the ground, clothes and all.

His face pale with fright, the boy hurried to scramble back to his feet, desperate to flee this place of disaster.

Just as he lifted his head, he saw the man in the wheelchair bending down, extending a hand toward him.

The nobleman in the wheelchair curled his lips into a faint smile and hooked his finger: “Come here.”

Gratitude rose in the boy’s chest, overwhelming his momentary humiliation. He crawled forward a few steps, nervously reaching out, intending to help this kind gentleman stand.

The man in the wheelchair suddenly raised his hand, and slapped him hard across the face.

“Don’t earn what you shouldn’t. You won’t even know how you die.”

Withdrawing his hand, the man took the tissue the bodyguard handed over and lazily wiped the palm that had just slapped someone. He wiped his five fingers over and over, as if terrified of being tainted by something filthy.

His tone was gentle, like a senior lecturing a junior, yet his strike had been far heavier than the one from the man inside.

The boy clutched his burning left cheek, so angry he was on the verge of tears.

He was at least a somewhat well-known model in the circle, plenty of people fawned over him. He had never suffered such humiliation in his life.

People in the industry all said that Second Young Master Xing was not only generous with money, but if you served him well, you could get resources others could only dream of.

He had stayed by Xing Yu’s side for over a month and had indeed gained quite a few real benefits. He had thought that if he stayed long enough, he might even become President Xing’s personal companion.

He never expected today would be his Waterloo, not only did Xing Yu throw him out like garbage, but he was even slapped by some complete stranger. He had never been more embarrassed in his life.

As he hurried to scramble up from the floor and escape the man’s presence, he suddenly realized this person looked oddly familiar.

It wasn’t just that he resembled Second Young Master Xing, his features and aura both gave off a strong sense of déjà vu.

Isn’t this…

A sharp pain suddenly shot through the back of his neck. The boy’s vision went black, and he passed out into Xing Shi’s arms.

Seeing that flicker of shock in the boy’s eyes, Xing Shi knocked him out in time.

Even he hadn’t expected that the Eldest Young Master would personally strike a low-tier model like this.

By normal standards, people like this were never even worth a glance from the Eldest Young Master, let alone him interfering in Second Young Master’s private affairs.

Not long after, the boy was dressed and carried out while unconscious by Xing Shi’s men.

He’d stumbled upon more than a few secrets today, but the Xing family had their own ways of silencing people. Once he left this building, he’d never dare speak of what happened again.

Wiping away the residual warmth on his palm with a tissue, Xing Cheng’s heartbeat slowly calmed.

The boy was probably still a student, with a particularly innocent-looking face. His eyes were filled with teary grievance, making anyone who saw him instinctively feel sympathy.

And that reminded him—again—of the little doctor in the bathroom.

Just as clean, just as untouched by filth. The kind that stirred up endless, uncontrollable urges to inflict harm.

It seemed Xing Shi was right, his condition was indeed becoming harder and harder to control.

In that moment when he bent down, he could have helped the boy up. He could have even, just like in the past, shown him something close to gentleness.

That way, not only could he make Xing Yu lose face, he might even have managed to plant another spy by Xing Yu’s side.

After all, playing the role of a refined and courteous gentleman was never something difficult for him.

But suddenly, he didn’t want to act anymore.

There wasn’t any particular reason.

Just to suppress that insignificant emotional ripple in his heart, he revealed his true face in front of a complete stranger.

—

Since the two masters were about to discuss serious matters, Secretary Gao and Xing Shi naturally didn’t dare linger. They took their subordinates and entered the elevator.

After everyone left, only the two brothers remained in the spacious top-floor CEO’s office.

Hearing the sound of wheels rolling across the floor, the man leaning in the office chair finally turned around slowly.

Xing Yu’s hair was a bit messy, the collar of his suit still half open. The tie that should have been around his chest had been tied into a dead knot and was now casually thrown over the back of the sofa, likely just used to bind the boy moments ago.

He stood up from behind the desk and took a few steps forward, coming to stand in front of Xing Cheng.

Looking down from above at the man in the wheelchair, Xing Yu chuckled softly.
“Brother, you’re back?”

“Thanks to you, Ah Yu.”

Xing Cheng looked up, a faint smile spreading toward the corners of his eyes: “Still didn’t die.”
