The Female Supporting Character Refuses to Be Human Again - Chapter 215.1
Meng Changjin greeted the people she met with a wave. When they asked her if she wanted to join them in visiting other houses, she politely declined. This winter, Meng Changjin spent most of her time in the wooden house, practicing cultivation, making pills, eating, and sometimes taking a break to sit outside on a wooden stool to watch the snow.
When winter passed and spring arrived, Meng Changjin once again led the people of the Yan Tribe to plant crops. After tasting the rice, everyone’s enthusiasm for farming grew even more. They not only replanted last year’s fields but also opened up a whole new area for farming. They had saved seeds from the last autumn harvest, so this year, there was no need for Meng Changjin to use her spiritual power to nourish them.
Meng Changjin wanted to see how the harvest would turn out without her spiritual influence. After all, she couldn’t keep doing this forever. Once her mission was over, she didn’t plan on staying. Besides, she knew that while she was using the body of the original owner to fulfill her last wish, her lifespan in this world was also limited.
For example, if the original owner was supposed to live to eighty years old, Meng Changjin might have been able to live for three hundred years through cultivation. However, in this world, she would still die at eighty. While she was alive, she could use her spiritual power to enhance the seeds, but what would happen when she was gone? If she died, there would be no one to nourish the seeds, and the harvest would plummet, which wouldn’t be good.
This wasn’t laziness on her part. Using spiritual power to nurture seeds didn’t cost her much, but the people needed to know what a normal harvest should look like. They had to be prepared to manage without her intervention someday.
With the new year beginning, hunting was also an important task. After planting the rice, the hunting team set off on their first expedition of the season. This time, Meng Changjin didn’t join them openly. Instead, she waited until they set off and then followed at a distance behind them. If she was visibly with them, the hunting team would naturally feel safer.
This whole situation left Meng Changjin feeling a bit helpless. Sometimes, being too good at something can be a burden. The newcomers from last year had now grown into experienced hunters and joined the first group in the forest, except for Zhuo.
Zhuo, who was one of the promising rookies last year, was no longer allowed to join the hunts since he was chosen to be the next Wu. He had to stay behind to train under the current Wu, learning the knowledge and responsibilities that came with the role.
Seeing Zhuo unable to go out and hunt, Meng Changjin couldn’t help but feel grateful that she had thought things through. In truth, the new year in the Yan Tribe was similar to the last, just on a grander scale. The tribe had progressed significantly.
For example, there were now more varieties of wild vegetables, and the tribe had learned how to save seeds for future planting. The clever people of the Yan Tribe even diverted part of the river to create a small pond where they could keep fish they caught. This way, they had a steady supply.
The tribe’s diet had greatly diversified compared to the past. In earlier days, it mainly consisted of meat, fruit, and a few wild vegetables. Now, they had fresh meat, salted meat, smoked meat, a variety of vegetables, and even rice. Their meals were much more balanced and plentiful.
As spring turned into autumn, and the third winter since Meng Changjin had come to this world arrived, the original owner’s wish was finally fulfilled. Seeing the golden words “Mission Complete” on the snowy ground, Meng Changjin felt a wave of emotion.
She had arrived in this world during winter, and now, with her task finished, it was winter once more.
“Host, would you like to leave the mission world now?” Xiao Si’s childish voice echoed in Meng Changjin’s mind.
Meng Changjin didn’t answer right away but said, “Let me see my status screen.”
“Okay,” Xiao Si replied cheerfully.
Moments later, a list of golden characters appeared in front of Meng Changjin:
- Name: Meng Changjin
- Race: Human
- Gender: Female
- Age: Currently 16 (True age unknown)
- Birthday: December 25th
- Height: 167 cm
- Weight: 48 kg
- Title: Novice Noob
- Skill: Spiritual Awareness Projection (Abnormal Skill)
- Items: None
- Mission Completion Rate: 10000/10000
Meng Changjin stared at the “10000/10000” on the screen, momentarily dazed. She had anticipated that she was close to completing her missions, but the reality of it still came as a surprise.
Yes, it was quick. When you look forward, time always seems to drag on, but when you look back, it feels like it flew by in the blink of an eye.
“Host, do you wish to leave the mission world now?” Xiao Si asked again.
Meng Changjin snapped back to reality. “No,” she replied.
She wasn’t ready to leave yet, despite knowing this was her final mission in this world. Ending her partnership with Xiao Si felt bittersweet; after all, he had been with her for so long, like a loyal companion.
She decided that when this mission was finally over, she would get herself a cat, something to remember the companionship by. If Xiao Si knew her thoughts, he’d probably be quite puzzled. He might think, “After all this time with me, you decide to replace me with a cat?! What kind of logic is that?”
But Meng Changjin was already giggling at the thought, feeling a sense of rebellious satisfaction. Even now, she couldn’t help but grumble at her title “Novice Noob.” How ridiculous was that after all she’d achieved?
🌟 Kliraz’s Curious Cat Corner: Master Farmer to Cat Whisperer (≧▽≦)
Did you notice Meng Changjin’s self-restraint when it came to nurturing the seeds with her spiritual power? It’s like she’s the ultimate tough-love gardener! Letting go of the training wheels so the Yan Tribe can learn to ride solo is actually a classic technique in leadership. In history, the concept of “self-sufficiency” has been a vital philosophy in many cultures, encouraging communities to rely on their skills rather than external help (Scott, J.C. (2009). The Art of Not Being Governed. Yale University Press, p. 34-36).
Oh, and let’s talk about her plan to get a cat! In Japanese culture, the “maneki-neko” or “beckoning cat” is a symbol of good fortune and luck, often seen in shops to bring prosperity (Goodman, R. (2007). The Lucky Cat: Culture and Symbolism. Asian Folklore Studies, 66(2), 231-249). Meng Changjin’s idea to have a cat as a companion after all her hard work feels like her way of attracting more good vibes into her life, even if it’s just to replace her fishy partner, Xiao Si. It’s like leveling up from sea-life to a land predator—talk about a power move! (¬‿¬)
And that bit about her existential struggle with her novice noo title—it’s almost tragicomic. It’s fascinating how even in fantasy settings, the theme of personal growth is universal. Ancient Chinese scholars often used self-deprecating humor to highlight their humble beginnings, much like Meng Changjin’s situation now (Liu, Y. (2012). Humor in Chinese Literature. Chinese Culture Journal, 19(4), 178-182).
One thing’s for sure, whether she’s farming, leading, or training her future cat army, Meng Changjin’s got more adventures ahead, and we’re here for every twist and turn! 😸
