- Chapter 4 - "Because, I Like You."
Song Yanhuo was startled by the sudden shout, but her fear quickly turned to anger. At Jinlong Elementary, who would dare challenge her except this new girl?
She turned and saw that the person who yelled was a boy she had never seen before. He had fair skin, neat hair, and was not wearing a school uniform. Instead, he wore an expensive-looking tracksuit and sneakers she had only seen in TV commercials. He looked nothing like the boys in their small town.
“Another new kid,” Song Yanhuo muttered, then looked the boy up and down and added, “And so short.”
Ming Ze said nothing.
He hated being called short more than anything. The reason his father had sent him to this remote town was because he had lost his temper back in the capital after a classmate made fun of his height, and he had kicked the boy into the hospital.
He had not expected to hear the same insult here.
It was true he was short, even shorter than this girl mocking him, but that was only because he developed late. His mother was 1.7 meters tall, and his father was even taller. Their family had tall genes. He was definitely going to grow taller one day.
He glared at the clueless girl in front of him and said, “If you weren’t a girl, I would have kicked you into the hospital by now.”
Song Yanhuo burst out laughing. She leaned close with a smug grin. “I’m so scared, little shorty.”
Ming Ze growled, “You!”
While the two argued over height, Qin Siluan had already pulled her hair free and walked away with an expressionless face. She could not be bothered with the two fools.
By the time Song Yanhuo came to her senses and saw Qin Siluan walking off, she cursed in frustration and gave Ming Ze a hard shove. “Get lost, shorty. This is all your fault!” Then she ran off.
Ming Ze stumbled and landed on the ground. His face flushed with anger.
It was the first time a girl had pushed him to the ground.
He was never going to forget this girl.
As for the pretty girl he had wanted to help earlier? He had already forgotten her.
…
Across the street, Jiang Ling was enjoying a steaming bowl of wontons. She had no idea the plot had already taken a strange turn. She also did not know that because of a system error, she had mistaken someone else for the target, which would cause her a lot of trouble later.
…
After finishing her wontons, Jiang Ling had no intention of going to school. She had lived for hundreds of years. Sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher drone on was worse than death.
She went to an internet café to watch TV and pass the time. Her plan was to head to the public restroom by the school gate at 11:30. When the male lead scolded the female villain, she would appear just in time to scold the female lead and draw full hatred points.
This task was supposed to be very simple.
Jiang Ling had never felt guilty about bullying children as an adult. To her, they were all NPCs. She did not feel the slightest burden.
After watching two movies and three drama recaps, it was finally eleven. She paid her bill, ate a bowl of Lanzhou noodles next door, and slowly made her way to the public restroom outside Jinlong Elementary.
She arrived at exactly 11:30. Perfect timing.
Three children were standing at the restroom entrance. She immediately recognized the tall girl on the left as Qin Siluan. The two shorter ones on the right were probably the male and female leads.
They were talking, but she could not hear clearly.
This was the perfect time to carry out her mission.
However, the restroom was dirty and smelled terrible. Jiang Ling covered her nose and felt a strong wave of resistance.
What kind of cruel mission location was this?
She hesitated for a second and then turned to leave.
The system was broken. There was no punishment mechanism anymore. It didn’t matter if she failed the task.
Still, before leaving, she sent a complaint to the town government office, reporting the filthy condition of the restroom and asking the relevant department to strengthen oversight and resolve the issue promptly.
Meanwhile, the real female villain, Song Yanhuo, stood miserably at the restroom door. Her dress was soaked, and Ming Ze’s uniform was also drenched.
The two of them looked like drowned rats, especially compared to Qin Siluan, who was clean and fresh. They were disheveled and pitiful.
Their faces were full of resentment as they glared at Qin Siluan. They wanted to attack her but did not dare step forward.
Ming Ze pointed at her angrily. “You are so cruel. If you weren’t a girl, I would have kicked you into the hospital and stopped you from getting your way.”
Qin Siluan rolled her eyes. She had heard that line before.
Song Yanhuo was also speechless. This boy was half a head shorter than her. She could knock him over with a light push. How could he possibly fight Qin Siluan?
She snapped, “Shut your mouth already. If it weren’t for you, my dress wouldn’t be wet!”
Earlier, she had followed Qin Siluan into the restroom after school and locked her in a stall. Somehow, Qin Siluan had escaped and pushed her inside instead. She tried to flee but was blocked by that idiot.
Qin Siluan seized the chance and sprayed them both with water from the tap.
If Ming Ze had not blocked the door, she would have gotten away and avoided this mess.
Song Yanhuo grew angrier just thinking about it.
Ming Ze’s face turned red. “I wasn’t ready.”
He refused to admit that Qin Siluan was stronger and had pushed him.
“Then why did you run into the girls’ restroom? Are you a pervert?”
He stayed quiet. After a long pause, he said, “I heard you shouting.”
Song Yanhuo was stunned.
Qin Siluan ignored them. She bent down to pick up her schoolbag, then gave Song Yanhuo a cold look. “If you try to mess with me again, next time it won’t just be water.”
Both Song Yanhuo and Ming Ze were shocked by her intimidating gaze.
Qin Siluan walked away from the restroom. After just a few steps, she saw a familiar figure from the morning standing with her back turned.
The malice on Qin Siluan’s face vanished. She ran up excitedly. “Sister Jiang Ling!”
Her delicate face was flushed with joy.
Jiang Ling was not surprised to see her. She had seen the confrontation just now, so it made sense. What surprised her was how quickly it ended, with Qin Siluan looking completely unscathed.
Was the female villain this powerful now? Did she not even need help?
Jiang Ling watched her with a complicated expression, which made Qin Siluan panic.
She looked back at the two drenched children, then turned to Jiang Ling and stammered, “Sister, just now, just now…”
She did not know how to explain.
She did not know if Jiang Ling had seen her push them into the restroom or spray them with water. She also did not know if Jiang Ling had heard her threats.
She nervously tugged at the hem of her uniform, unsure how to explain.
She did not know why, but she did not want this sister, whom she had only just met, to see her fierce side.
Jiang Ling looked down and finished typing the last word of her complaint message before raising her head.
“Just now what?”
The girl’s face was very red. “Just now in the restroom…”
“Oh, you got bullied, right?”
She casually ruffled Qin Siluan’s hair to comfort her.
Even if the female villain was already strong, she still needed to complete her mission points.
Qin Siluan was confused.
No, Sister. I wanted to ask if you saw me bullying others.
But she just replied with a quiet “Mm.”
To her surprise, Jiang Ling immediately said, “It’s alright. I’ll help you get revenge.”
Qin Siluan was stunned.
She watched as Jiang Ling took one step forward but then quickly stepped back, covering her nose.
There was no helping it. The restroom really smelled awful.
Jiang Ling steadied herself, then waved to the two soaked children slowly approaching.
Song Yanhuo and Ming Ze looked at each other, puzzled.
“Is she calling us?”
“I don’t know.”
“Should we go over?”
They walked toward her.
Jiang Ling immediately put on a fierce expression and scolded them. “You two bullied Siluan?”
Song Yanhuo and Ming Ze were speechless.
Are you blind? Look at us. Who bullied who? Did you call us over just to scold us?
Jiang Ling could not care less about what they were thinking. She pulled Qin Siluan into her arms and warned them sharply.
“You brats better listen. Qin Siluan is under my protection. If you dare touch a single hair on her head again, watch your legs after school. Understand?”
Then she patted Qin Siluan’s shoulder. “Let’s go.”
Qin Siluan blushed as she was suddenly pulled into and released from Jiang Ling’s arms.
Her ears went quiet. She could only hear her own heartbeat.
Her head was lowered and her legs felt weak. It felt like she was walking on clouds.
She followed Jiang Ling closely, her shy demeanor leaving Song Yanhuo and Ming Ze completely dumbfounded.
Song Yanhuo and Ming Ze: Who was the real victim here?
…
“Sister, why did you help me like that?”
Anyone who saw the scene just now would have thought she was the bully. But Jiang Ling stood firmly by her side and believed she was the one being bullied.
Why was she so kind? Why did she want to help her?
Jiang Ling was momentarily stumped. She turned her head and looked at her. After a pause, she answered, “Because I like you.”
She could not say it was because of the mission, and she had no better excuse.
So she made one up.
But when Qin Siluan heard that, her face turned red all the way to her neck.
She clenched her hands tightly.
This was the happiest she had ever felt.
Because Sister said she liked her.
She lifted her head and, as if gathering all her courage, firmly said, “Sister, I like you too!”
Jiang Ling burst out laughing and rubbed her head.
