The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 8
Jiang Shu was the first to finish the questionnaire.
She sat down in a chair, idly rubbing the fluffy pom-pom on her collar to pass the time, while glancing at the other guests.
Ren Lishu and Qiao Xian also wrote quickly and submitted their answers after her, followed by Pei Wang and that couple, while Qu Mei and Yu Zhen ended up being the last to hand in their papers.
The director shook the answer sheets in his hand and said slowly, “Let’s start checking the answers. Which group should we begin with?”
He pulled out two sheets from the pile: “Then let’s go with whoever submitted their papers first.”
The director loudly announced the names: “Jiang Shu and Pei Wang.”
Jiang Shu felt a sudden panic akin to that of a high school student when the teacher reads out the exam results.
She instinctively inched her chair back a little, but when Pei Wang glanced at her, she stiffly froze in place.
The director had already begun reading the first question: “When did you meet? Pei Wang answered, ‘Nineteen years ago,’ and Jiang Shu said, ‘Four days ago… hmm?’”
He moved the answer sheet slightly, revealing a puzzled and inquisitive expression: “Aren’t you siblings?”
Jiang Shu froze.
What kind of script had Pei Wang set up for himself? Who had met him nineteen years ago? She had just been born at that time—
Suddenly, Jiang Shu realized.
Pei Wang was trying to hide the complicated nature of their sibling relationship, pretending to be two ordinary siblings who had had a conflict. And for ordinary siblings, the first meeting is, after all, the day the younger sibling is born.
Why hadn’t Pei Wang told her about the story he concocted? Even if he didn’t want to see her, he could have sent her a message. Could she really not cooperate?
Wait, hadn’t they not added each other as friends?
Jiang Shu’s thoughts came to an abrupt halt. She was silent for a moment before slightly tilting her head to look at Pei Wang.
“Wow, I smell something juicy! One met years ago, the other just four days ago! There’s definitely something fishy here!”
“Is one of them a love child???? They don’t even share the same surname!!!”Jiang Shu directly wrote that they met only four days ago. Could it be that she was dissatisfied with Pei Wang and was implying he was an illegitimate child, refusing to acknowledge him as her brother?
“Isn’t it unfair for one to take their father’s surname and the other their mother’s? Are you just going to label someone as an illegitimate child because of this????”
“Sisters, sisters!!! I checked on Jiang Shu! She is the daughter of □□□! Baidu Encyclopedia doesn’t mention she has a brother! This is solid evidence of him being an illegitimate child!”
“No, I just thought this brother was so handsome and clean, I was about to become his fan…”
The director urged them again. Jiang Shu hesitated for a moment, thinking about how to respond, when she heard Pei Wang’s voice: “We are siblings.”
He smiled gently and continued, “I wonder if the director has been following the official blog of the Jing City police. They recently announced a case about a child who went missing for seventeen years.”
He spoke straightforwardly and calmly: “That child is me.”
Pei Wang smiled apologetically: “I went missing too early, so my sister doesn’t remember me.”
“What the heck, the more calm Pei Wang’s tone, the more my heart aches. Human traffickers, bdhs.”
“Ugh, I apologize to Pei Wang. I shouldn’t have made those guesses before. I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
“Earlier sisters, he only mentioned going missing; it doesn’t necessarily mean human traffickers…”
“Are you joking? How could someone go missing for so many years and have the Jiang family unable to find them? Saying it’s human traffickers might be an understatement, it could even be intentional.”
“Dang, dang, dang, influenced by the earlier sisters, I also Googled Pei Wang, and what did I find? Jinghua! Pei Wang is the actual controlling shareholder and CEO of Jinghua Corporation! A new husband has appeared! How can we stand still? Let’s go! Sisters, let’s charge!”
As soon as Pei Wang’s words came out, the program crew fell silent for a moment. The director was taken aback and stuttered for a second: “Ah, like this—”
He quickly made a decision: “Let’s move on to the next question.”
“What memorable thing happened that day? Pei Wang wrote about his sister’s birth, and Jiang Shu—”
The director paused momentarily, then glanced over with a complicated expression: “Jiang Shu wrote that she was tripped by Pei Wang and injured her foot.”
The guests erupted into scattered laughter, while Jiang Shu covered her eyes with her hand.
Please don’t say anymore. Does making others feel awkward really bring joy?The director seemed to be enjoying himself; he continued to read the third question: “What does the other person like to eat?”
This question actually tied in with the fifth question—one was about what they liked personally, and the other was about their partner’s preferences, perfectly designed to cross-check the answers.
The director started with Pei Wang’s preferences.
Jiang Shu had filled in all the wrong answers. She looked at Pei Wang with some reluctance and said, “Weren’t these the things you ate the most at the table that day?”
Moreover, those dishes were all placed right in front of Pei Wang, making it obviously—
“No way?” Jiang Shu asked incredulously in a low voice, “Was that part of your dining etiquette?”
She settled back comfortably in her chair.
This was it; she was definitely going to get the fourth question wrong too.
And indeed, it was wrong. After the director read Pei Wang’s answer, he looked down at Jiang Shu, puzzled: “Why do you think he likes black and white?”
Jiang Shu tiredly lifted her eyelashes and replied, “I’ve seen him twice, and both times he wore a black suit with a white shirt.”
Embodying the nature of a Vicious Supporting Female Character, she turned to Pei Wang and shot back, “It’s all your fault for misleading me.”
Pei Wang turned his head to look at her. He wasn’t angry; instead, he wore an expression akin to that of an adult looking at a child, then readily admitted, “It’s my fault.”
He let out a light chuckle, saying, “I’ll wear a different color tomorrow.”
Jiang Shu, annoyed, turned her head away.
She grabbed the fluffy pom-pom on her clothes and urged the director, “Read the next question.”
Jiang Shu felt a bit disheartened: “Are we going to score zero?”
“Not exactly,” the director shot her a glance, dramatically shaking the answer sheet in his hand. “Pei Wang got your preference right.”
Jiang Shu exclaimed, “Huh?!”
This made no sense; what basis did they have for this?
She widened her eyes in disbelief as she looked at Pei Wang.
Pei Wang lowered his brow and gently explained, “That day when I was chatting with Mother Jiang, she mentioned that to me.”
He wasn’t particularly interested in such matters, but he listened carefully to what Mother Jiang said. Combined with his excellent memory, when this question came up, he naturally filled in the answer.
The director had already handed their answer sheets to a staff member beside them: “Pei Wang and Jiang Shu’s group, one point.”
Next came that divorced couple and the ex-couple.
Their questions were the same, and the couple correctly answered the time they first met, yet both left the deepest impression question blank, likely not wanting to recall their past after the divorce.
They submitted four identical answers for the third and fifth questions; when the director pursued the matter, Ren Lishu chuckled and casually replied, “I can’t remember what he loves to eat; this is just what the kid likes.”
The director turned his head to Qiao Xian, slightly surprised: “Is that your reason as well?”
Qiao Xian shook his head and lowered his voice: “I just guessed she would write what the child likes to eat, so I went with that.”
He paused for a moment, then sheepishly added, “I thought the top two houses might have two rooms, so I wanted to give it a shot.”
The director was speechless.
After a lengthy silence, he set their answer sheets aside and picked up those of the couple.
The couple’s answers were identical to Ren Lishu and Qiao Xian’s, except they didn’t get the color right; everything else matched.
Only one group was left, and Jiang Shu looked at the flimsy little tent nearby, feeling a wave of discouragement.
Perhaps no one else would score lower than they did.
“Let’s see how the last group fares!”
The director’s voice raised in excitement as he revealed the last two answer sheets, then he let out a small, “Oh?”
Jiang Shu quickly perked up.
Among the two answer sheets, one had been filled out normally, while the other had nothing written on it.
Between Qu Mei and Yu Zhen, one of them submitted a blank sheet.
The director raised his hand and shook the two papers: “What a pity; there’s no need to check the answers now.”
He announced, “Qu Mei and Yu Zhen’s group, zero points!”
