Jiang Shu felt as if a light had suddenly turned on, realizing everything.

What was this about a belated birthday gift and an unfamiliar amateur? This was all a scheme by Father Jiang and Mother Jiang.

She stared at Pei Wang for quite some time, only shifting her gaze when he moved closer.

The director, smiling, looked at Pei Wang and announced, “Alright, our last group of guests has arrived, and we are about to start filming.”

He adjusted the position of the waist-mounted amplifier and suddenly remembered something. He looked up and added, “Oh right, I forgot to tell everyone that the live broadcast started ten minutes ago.”

The guests almost simultaneously looked up at the director.

It was rare for a program to start live broadcasting without notice; when they arrived, they hadn’t thought much about it and assumed that being off-camera meant they could naturally adopt a cold demeanor.

Now that they had already put on such indifferent attitudes, trying to act friendly would seem hypocritical.

The guests exchanged glances for a moment before turning their heads away.

[Lol, the early bird catches the worm! This scene where they all seem displeased with each other is just too satisfying.]

[Exactly! Why pretend to be friendly? The entertainment industry thrives on scheming against one another!]

[Are you serious? You don’t see all the role model couples in the entertainment industry? Are you really judging everyone with one brush?]

Several guests had considerable fan followings, and the comments quickly became lively again, with a few remarks barely managing to shine through the barrage of arguments.

[There are two people here we haven’t seen before. Are they amateurs too? Did they stir up some drama? Are they a couple?]

[There are four groups of guests for this show: one group for friendship, one for love, one for marriage, so what about this last group? Family?]

The director deliberately waited for a moment, allowing the guests to digest the news, before continuing, “Since everyone is here for the first time to film this program, how about we start with some self-introductions?”

He noticed someone about to speak and held up a finger, waving it in front of them, “No rush.”

The director took a chair from a staff member and sat down: “Our self-introduction has rules too.”

“Everyone knows who your partner is, right?” He tilted his body, resting his chin on the back of the chair, and said leisurely, “Introduce your partner, not yourself, one group at a time.”

The guests all turned to look at the director in unison.

The guests who came to this show were almost all in somewhat embarrassing situations. They barely wanted to see each other again, yet now the director asked them to introduce one another.

The director calmly ignored their gazes, casually pointed as if drawing lots, and then directed towards a pair of same-sex guests to his left: “You go first.”

Whoever speaks first would be at a disadvantage. The pair exchanged glances before quickly looking away.

Neither of them spoke, and the director, taking his time, sat back in his chair and lazily fanned himself with a piece of paper.

Both guests visibly grew anxious; one fidgeted with her clothing, while the other bit her lip repeatedly. Finally, the guest on the left couldn’t hold back and spoke up, “Her name is Qu Mei, she’s an actress.”

The guest on the left, pursing her lips, reluctantly recounted Qu Mei’s classic roles.

Qu Mei glanced at her before finally managing to say, “Her name is Yu Zhen.”

After this brief introduction, Qu Mei fell silent.

Both Qu Mei and Yu Zhen were in their thirties and had debuted over a decade ago. They became acquainted while playing supporting roles in the same drama and had supported each other ever since. However, four years ago, for reasons unknown, they publicly fell out on Weibo and had not been on stage together since.

Yu Zhen evidently felt a bit disgruntled, thinking Qu Mei had introduced her too briefly. But before she could voice her frustration, the director, holding a loudspeaker, chimed in, “Next group—”

The next group was a divorced couple.

With the groundwork laid by Qu Mei and Yu Zhen, this divorced couple found it much easier to speak up.

The husband went first: “Her name is Ren Lishu, the mother of my child, a dramatic actress.”

The wife followed suit: “His name is Qiao Xian, an actor.”

This pair had a similar backstory, meeting at a low point in their lives, supporting each other, and even having a child together. However, two years ago, the wife coldly unilaterally announced their divorce on Weibo.

The director’s gaze flicked to the side.

The broken-up couple self-consciously began to speak. The man said, “Her name is Lin Hui, she’s an actress.”

The woman replied, “His name is Wang Siyuan, a singer. He just released an album a few days ago.”

Unlike the previous two groups, their relationship was revealed when both were at the peak of their careers. However, their romance didn’t last long and ended with the man’s career decline.

[The director is really clever; as soon as they started introducing one another, it revealed who was softer-hearted and who still cared about the other.]

[Anyone willing to come to this show must at least want to reconcile, right? Otherwise, why would they be here?]

[Making money isn’t something to be ashamed of, so why not come??]

[Oh no, Yu Zhen remembers so many of Qu Mei’s roles; she must still care about their friendship!]

[Come on, use your brain; with Qu Mei’s level of fame, who doesn’t know those characters!]”It’s the turn of the last group! Everyone clear out! I want to hear their introduction! Not to mention, both of them are really good-looking!”

“I bet they’re siblings! They’ve had romance, friendship, and marriage; this one is definitely familial love!!!!!!!”

“Couple! Couple! Couple! Couple!”

The director’s eyes naturally flicked toward Jiang Shu and Pei Wang.

Jiang Shu sighed inwardly. She lowered her head and stole a glance at Pei Wang, still contemplating whether to speak first, when she heard Pei Wang say, “Her name is Jiang Shu.”

He introduced her naturally, “She’s my sister.”

Jiang Shu blinked. After waiting a moment and seeing that Pei Wang had no further introduction, she spoke up, “His name is Pei Wang, my brother.”

She paused for a moment, feeling that her introduction was too smooth, not enough to showcase her identity as a Vicious Supporting Female Character. So, she turned to the side, backing away from Pei Wang, and let out a light grunt to express her disdain.

Jiang Shu’s attitude didn’t linger for long before the director’s voice rang out again: “All right, the simplest self-introductions are done; let’s move on to the next segment.”

The director stood up from his chair and announced, “The production team has prepared four houses for everyone, including sea-view houses and temporary shelters.”

He first pointed at a seaside villa in the distance, then at a small tent set up near the roadside: “As for which house you will all stay in tonight, it will depend on the points each group earns today.”

Jiang Shu had noticed that pitiful tent upon her arrival: “Isn’t that tent for storing filming equipment?”

The director shot a glance at her: “It could also be for you.”

Jiang Shu immediately fell silent.

She felt that sleeping in that tent wouldn’t be suitable at all.

The other guests didn’t speak up, but Pei Wang did: “So, how do we earn points?”

The director leisurely raised a finger: “By completing tasks.”

He pretended to check the time, then feigned surprise: “Oh, is it that late already? It’s all your fault for dragging out the introductions.”

The director lamented, “Let’s go easy on you this morning; we’ll just play a simple game.”

The simple game was a test of rapport.

The production team provided each pair of guests with a pen and paper, asking them to lean over the temporarily brought-in chairs and answer questions.

“There are a total of five questions, and if both answers from the same group match, you score a point.”

The answering had already begun, and Jiang Shu held the pen, her expression serious as she stared at the five questions on the paper.

[When did you two first meet?]

That was too easy; Jiang Shu picked up her pen and wrote down the answer immediately.Four days ago.

[Did anything unforgettable happen that day?]

I tripped and hurt my foot because of him.

[What does the other person like to eat most?]

Who knows, they only met once. Jiang Shu bit her pen, recalling what Pei Wang had eaten for dinner that day, then she struggled to fill it in.

[What is the other person’s favorite color?]

Jiang Shu glanced at the suit Pei Wang was wearing and wrote down her answer.

White, black.

[What do you like to eat most?]

There are just too many. Jiang Shu answered vaguely—

Milk tea, hot pot, barbecue, snacks, desserts.

After completing the entire questionnaire, Jiang Shu felt she had answered earnestly. She crumpled the paper a bit, admired her work, and then handed it over to the staff.

Then, a notification sounded in her mind—

“Ding! Detected that the Vicious Supporting Female Character is deliberately setting traps while answering questions. Please, host, slap your face quickly.”

Jiang Shu was almost fuming with embarrassment. Who is setting traps? She answered each question seriously! If she got something wrong, can it really be blamed on her?

Author’s note:

Jiang Shu: It’s my fault for not being serious if I can’t solve a math problem?
