Jiang Shu had no idea how she finished her lunch.

After Ren Lishu asked her that question, she left before Jiang Shu could respond, making the situation even more awkward—

Ren Lishu was so certain she didn’t need an answer.

Jiang Shu sighed again.

Pei Wang noticed her movement and looked over, asking softly, “What’s wrong?”

He slightly furrowed his brow, glancing at the beads of sweat on Jiang Shu’s forehead, and handed her a tissue, whispering, “Are you hot?”

The afternoon activity was a village tour. The director had invited a local person to be the guide, to give everyone a brief look around the village.

The village scenery was quite nice; due to the recent popularity of agritourism, they had even built several artificial attractions to draw in visitors.

This was part of the program team’s strategy, but the guests had already been exposed to the sun all morning, and now walking around in the blazing heat, they were all exhausted and hot.

Jiang Shu replied softly, “It’s okay.”

She wiped her sweat, crumpling the tissue in her hand, pretending to fan herself a couple of times: “When will recording end?”

It was too hot, and she wanted to finish the recording quickly, but she hesitated a bit—

Once the recording was done, it would be workdays again. Pei Wang would be busy with company matters and would have to be with Aunt Pei; she might not get to see him much.

Jiang Shu bent her elbow, gently nudging Pei Wang’s side: “Brother.”

Pei Wang responded with a soft “Mm,” extending his hand, “Are you throwing away trash?”

Jiang Shu swallowed the words she wanted to ask.

She had just opened up to Pei Wang yesterday, and today she was pestering him to find out if he was busy—it felt a bit undignified.

.

She didn’t know how busy Pei Wang was.

Woken up early by Father Jiang, Jiang Shu thought as she sat in the company all day that she was quite busy herself.

Father Jiang seemed inclined to hand over the foundation matters completely to her, almost every document passed to her directly.

Without Father Jiang backing her, she couldn’t afford to be careless with these documents. Though she couldn’t analyze the pros and cons clearly, she still diligently reviewed all the files.

Then she took out her phone, opened WeChat, scrolled through the stickers, and deftly sent one to Pei Wang.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Cat Peeking.jpg

A “typing” indicator quickly appeared next to Pei Wang’s WeChat name, but it didn’t last long before disappearing.

Jiang Shu waited a bit in confusion before finally receiving a message from Pei Wang.

[Pei Wang]: Scrub Cat Face.jpg

She wondered where he found the sticker, as it turned out to be the same cat as the one she sent. The fatigue from being overworked all day suddenly vanished. Jiang Shu rested her chin on one hand while slowly typing with the other.

[Your Shu Shu Yule]: Is being a big boss really this tiring?

[Your Shu Shu Yule]: Fat Slump.jpg

Pei Wang replied with a short voice message. Jiang Shu peeked around cautiously, like a thief, and opened the drawer to take out her headphones.

Pei Wang’s voice filled her ears: “I don’t know.”

He seemed to chuckle softly: “After all, I’m just a president, not a big boss.”

Jiang Shu couldn’t help but smile. She pressed down on the silicone cloud design on her phone case, typed a few words, tilted her head in thought, then deleted everything cleanly.

She sent a new message—

[Your Shu Shu Yule]: Is it convenient for voice?

No sooner had she sent the message than Pei Wang called with a voice message.

Jiang Shu answered the call, lowering her voice: “Brother.”

Pei Wang responded softly, “Were you dragged by Dad to do some work today?”

“Yes.” Jiang Shu quietly complained, “I’ve been reviewing documents all day long.”

She vented to Pei Wang: “All documents have to come to me. I can’t tell what’s good or bad, and I don’t dare not look at them—”

Jiang Shu then added, “It seems noisy outside.”

She heard some strange noises outside and hesitated for a moment before saying, “I’ll go take a look.”

As she stepped out, she entered a large office where all the employees were gathered, discussing something.

Their voices weren’t loud; Jiang Shu only caught a few words here and there and couldn’t figure out what they were talking about.

She walked over, lightly knocked on the table as a reminder, then asked, “Why is everyone gathered here?”

The discussion suddenly stopped. The employees, caught slacking off, looked sheepish. After a moment of silence, someone finally spoke: “Hello, General Manager Xiao Jiang.”

The speaker was a junior supervisor who explained, “The police have come downstairs and said they’re here to arrest Manager Jiang.”

He lowered his voice and added, “Everyone was a bit curious, so we just gathered to chat for a moment.”

Jiang Shu chuckled: “I didn’t mean to blame you.”

She had been slacking off too.

Jiang Shu walked to the window, leaned down to glance outside, and casually asked, “Which Manager Jiang?”

With so many departments in the company, there were quite a few managers with the surname Jiang.

The junior supervisor shook his head: “We only heard some gossip and didn’t catch the name.”

Jiang Shu frowned slightly, slowly saying “Oh,” when she suddenly heard sounds in her earphones: “It’s Jiang Tingfeng.”

There were some rustling sounds from Pei Wang’s side as if he was flipping through documents: “Dad set him up deliberately, leaving a flaw, to trick Jiang Tingfeng into stealing company confidential documents.”

Jiang Shu exclaimed softly, “Wow!”

The floor where the foundation was located wasn’t very high, and she could clearly see two police cars parked at the bottom: “Will he be sentenced?”

Pei Wang chuckled softly. His voice was low, calm, and assured: “Yes, he will.”

Jiang Shu wanted to ask for more details, but when she turned her head and saw the junior supervisor still next to her, she swallowed her words back.

She turned away, nodded to the junior supervisor, then returned to her office and closed the door.

Jiang Shu asked curiously, “How did Dad trick Second Uncle?”

Pei Wang didn’t respond immediately. Jiang Shu, puzzled, flipped her ponytail, just as she was about to ask again when Pei Wang said, “Using you as bait.”

Jiang Shu blinked in confusion.

Pei Wang explained: “Dad had the secretary send you a document, which was a large construction tender from the government.”

“There’s someone from Jiang Tingfeng’s team in your department. That person picked up the document first, saw it, contacted Jiang Tingfeng, and then forwarded a copy to him.”

Jiang Shu: “?”

So all those documents today could have been ignored?

The author has something to say:

If all goes well, updates should be daily from now on.

If there are no updates, that would be unexpected.
