The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 58
Jiang Shu felt embarrassed to stay on Pei Wang’s back for too long.
Almost as soon as they were out of the courtyard, she poked Pei Wang’s back, saying, “I want to get down now.”
She jumped down from Pei Wang’s back, glanced at the big yellow dog following them to the courtyard gate, then tugged on Pei Wang’s shirt, suggesting, “Let me stay in the twenty-point room, okay?”
Pei Wang looked down at her.
Even as the little girl tugged his shirt, walking alongside him, she continued to look back frequently, clearly still a bit shaken.
A smile appeared on Pei Wang’s face. “Alright.”
“Everything’s still in the room.” The little girl mumbled, “In a bit, I won’t go in, you have to help me get them.”
Pei Wang took hold of the hand she had on his shirt, replying gently, “Alright.”
After he agreed twice, the little girl finally turned her head to look at him, complaining, “You’re so dismissive.”
Pei Wang lowered his gaze with a smile, “Alright, then.”
He leaned down slightly closer to Jiang Shu, lowered his voice, and spoke slowly, “Honorable Miss Jiang, I will retrieve your belongings for you shortly—”
“Stop, stop—”
Jiang Shu hastily covered Pei Wang’s mouth, “I’d rather you dismiss me.”
She glanced back in panic to ensure that the Camera Brother was not too close and that those few words wouldn’t be recorded, finally exhaling in relief.
Jiang Shu pushed Pei Wang’s hand away, “You’re so weird.”
Pei Wang lowered his lashes and looked at her gently.
Jiang Shu walked ahead by herself, holding a task card, comparing it with the houses they passed, and finally stopped in front of a courtyard.
This house was obviously newly built, a three-story villa, with a new facade and a sunroom on top. The courtyard was concrete, with a few patches reserved in the corners for planting flowers and grass.
The gate was open.
Jiang Shu went over, peeking around the courtyard. When she didn’t see anybody inside, she knocked on the iron gate, raising her voice slightly, “Hello, is anyone here?”
There was no response.
Jiang Shu patiently asked twice more before she saw someone’s shadow passing by the window, followed by the villa’s main door opening.
A girl in pajamas came out, “Coming, coming.”
Holding an ice pop in her hand, she walked over with some confusion, “The door wasn’t locked. Why didn’t you just come in?”
The girl opened the iron gate, “Are you the guests staying here tonight?”
Jiang Shu turned her head to exchange a glance with Pei Wang.
This was clearly one of the accommodations provided by the Program Team, and by the looks of it, this was evidently the 200-point “Sunshine En-Suite King Room.”
The hundred-point price difference was quite apparent, making it clear that this was on a different level compared to their regular homestay.
This suggested that the twenty-point room still had some potential for less than ideal living conditions.
Jiang Shu couldn’t help but worry.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
After waiting a while without a response from Pei Wang or Jiang Shu, the girl couldn’t help but frown, “You’re not here to stay?”
She scrutinized Jiang Shu for a while before Jiang Shu pulled out the task card and she finally understood, “Oh, oh, oh, you have a task to do.”
She stepped aside, letting Pei Wang and Jiang Shu enter, and mused, “I totally forgot about that.”
The girl pointed to an area in the courtyard, “You just need to sweep the ground a bit, then fetch some water and dampen the surface.”
After describing the task, she anxiously asked, “Is that okay?”
After completing four tasks in one day, Jiang Shu considered this the easiest one yet.
She nodded confidently, “No problem!”
The girl didn’t respond, but looked at Jiang Shu with concern. She went inside to fetch cleaning tools and came back out, “We only have one broom at home.”
The girl told them, “You’ll have to divide it among yourselves.”
She placed the tool on the ground, then turned and went back inside.
Jiang Shu reached out to grab the broom, but as soon as she touched it, Pei Wang’s fingertip pressed lightly on her wrist.
He took the broom from her hand, grabbed some tissues, and after wiping down the steps at the entrance, turned his head to Jiang Shu, “Do you want to sit?”
Jiang Shu looked up at him.She sat and watched Pei Wang work alone?
Her expression showed a bit of obvious confusion. Pei Wang paused and explained, “I didn’t bring a jacket today.”
Jiang Shu: “?”
What does that have to do with anything?
She stared at Pei Wang blankly for a moment, and then finally realized—
Previously, when sitting on the ground, Pei Wang would use his jacket as a cushion to prevent getting dirty.
Jiang Shu ran a hand through her bangs, “That’s not the issue.”
She wanted to say something more when the door behind them opened. The girl pushed out a chair. “You can sit on this.”
She even held a few ice popsicles in her hand. “Do you want one?”
Jiang Shu blinked.
No one can resist the temptation of an ice popsicle on a summer afternoon.
She hesitated momentarily before reaching out her hand and looking at the girl, “Thank you.”
Jiang Shu smiled, her eyes curling into crescent moons like a cat’s eyes.
The girl’s indifferent expression nearly broke.
She handed the ice popsicle to Jiang Shu. “If you need anything else, just let me know.”
Jiang Shu gave one to Pei Wang, then took the one she held, tore open the packaging in a few tries, and snapped it in half.
She tilted her head, “No—”
Pei Wang lightly grabbed Jiang Shu’s wrist. “Shu Shu.”
Pei Wang stopped Jiang Shu from speaking further, walked over to her side, and looked at the girl with downcast eyes. “Hello.”
He gently asked, “We wanted to ask which families in the village offer accommodations.”
Pei Wang paused for a moment. “Could you answer that?”
The girl glanced at him. “I could, but…”
She scratched her head. “The accommodation thing is negotiated privately, so I don’t know exactly which families—”
“Oh, right!” The girl suddenly remembered and pointed sideways. “I remember the house diagonally opposite also offers accommodation.”
This she had overheard when passing by the village entrance.
At that time, the uncle from that house shouted, sharing his shock with the whole village: “What is this Program Team up to! They asked if my house had any place for people to stay. I said no, and they didn’t believe me. After looking around, they said my firewood room was nice and could accommodate a bed.”
“Oh dear, no one can sleep there. The roof leaks and it’s never been fixed. We don’t even store junk there!”
At the time, she had asked casually, “Uncle, did you agree to rent to the Program Team?”
“I did! The Program Team offered five hundred yuan per night, why not take it?”
The girl shared this information with them.
Jiang Shu looked at Pei Wang with a complicated expression.
They had underestimated the Program Team. The team always managed to surprise them in unexpected ways.
Jiang Shu sighed, grabbed Pei Wang’s sleeve, pondered with a conflicted expression for a moment, and then conceded, “Why don’t we just stay in that previous place after all?”
