The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 57
During the first recording, she had shared a room with Pei Wang, but there is still a big difference between sharing a room and sharing a bed.
Jiang Shu emphasized, “There’s only one bed.”
The little girl’s eyes widened, looking over expectantly, as if she was waiting for him to say something conciliatory.
Pei Wang cast a sideways glance at her, then picked up a pillow and stood it upright in the middle of the bed, casually asking, “So, what’s the problem?”
He teased her deliberately, “We can share it, one half each.”
Jiang Shu’s eyes widened in surprise. She met Pei Wang’s gaze for a moment, then turned to the side and slapped the pillow with her hand. “I don’t want that.”
The pillow flopped down, lying across the bed.
Jiang Shu sat on the edge of the bed and hugged the pillow to her chest, thinking for a moment. “Let’s go find Grandma and ask her for another blanket.”
Unconsciously, Jiang Shu pinched the corner of the pillow, kneading it back and forth. Then she released her grip, leaned on the table, and slowly said, “And then—”
She blinked and secretly glanced at Pei Wang. “Who’s going to sleep on the floor?”
Pei Wang began to laugh.
Jiang Shu’s gaze was not fierce; it was more like she was shaking her head playfully, almost spelling her hint out on her face.
Pei Wang sat at the Eight Immortals Table and spoke softly, “No one is sleeping on the floor.”
The little girl looked at him in confusion.
Pei Wang picked up the plastic bag containing their items and began to open it while explaining, “In summer, it’s humid and there are a lot of mosquitoes in the countryside; we can’t sleep on the floor here.”
Inside the plastic bag were two bottles of mineral water, a plate of mosquito coils, and some disposable toiletries.
Pei Wang took everything out and simply divided them into two portions. “I’m planning to go find the program team to rent a room for twenty yuan per night.”
He explained, “The living conditions in the village won’t differ too much; a hundred points and twenty points for a room likely just means a difference in these supplies.”
Pei Wang lowered his head and gently touched the tips of Jiang Shu’s fingers. “Do you mind if I take half?”
Having held hands so many times before, Jiang Shu still felt strange at his touch this time.
Instinctively, she curled her fingers slightly to avoid Pei Wang’s contact. “You can take it.”
Jiang Shu tilted her head. “That half was yours anyway.”
As she looked down, a few strands of hair fell across her forehead, obscuring her view. The little girl, feeling a bit impatient, shook her head and raised a hand to brush aside those strands of hair, muttering quietly, “I’ll cut it all off later.”
Pei Wang opened the packaging of the mosquito coils and glanced at her. “Are you going to cut it yourself?”
Jiang Shu quickly shook her head. “I was just talking tough.”
She mumbled, “Of course, I have to find a hairdresser. What if it gets ruined?”
Pei Wang instinctively imagined the scenario.
The little girl had uneven Liu Hai bangs, with messy strands sticking to her cheeks—
But she was still adorable.
Pei Wang finished unwrapping the mosquito coil tray and set it on the provided holder before pulling out a lighter to ignite the coil.
The program team had provided the old-fashioned, round mosquito coils; after lighting them, they produced a strong smell. Pei Wang closed the window and reminded Jiang Shu, “Make sure to extinguish the mosquito coil when you come back at night; just open the screen window for ventilation.”
“Let’s go.” He reached out his hand to Jiang Shu. “We need to complete the task.”
Jiang Shu jumped down from the bed and grabbed Pei Wang’s hand.
“Are we doing the task first?” she tilted her head to look at him. “Aren’t we going to rent another room first?”
“We can buy it while we’re turning in the task.” Pei Wang locked the door. “Those four rooms won’t get snatched up.”
He turned around and took a couple of steps forward when he heard a rustling sound; a golden head poked out from the grass, revealing a pair of shiny black, damp eyes.
It was the big yellow dog.
Pei Wang halted, and Jiang Shu, feeling a bit puzzled, leaned forward to peek. “What’s wrong?”
Pei Wang raised his hand to cover her eyes. “Wang Cai is blocking the way.”
The little girl clearly didn’t understand who Wang Cai was, blinking bewilderedly in his palm as her lashes brushed against his hand, creating a slight, ticklish sensation.
Pei Wang reminded her, “It’s that big yellow dog.”
The little girl obviously stiffened.
Pei Wang pushed her behind him and then lowered his head, tentatively calling out, “Wang Cai.”
The big yellow dog wagged its tail, panting with its tongue hanging out, and leaned forward, shaking its ears.
Pei Wang squatted down and cautiously reached his hand forward.
The big yellow dog didn’t retreat or display any signs of alertness, allowing Pei Wang to pat its head and grab its leash, intending to lead it to the other side of the courtyard.Wang Cai felt the pull on its neck, looked up in confusion, and then barked loudly, sitting down firmly on the ground.
Refusing to cooperate.
Pei Wang sighed.
The elderly woman had mentioned needing to take a nap before going back into the house, so he couldn’t bother her to take Wang Cai away.
Jiang Shu stood at the door, turned slightly to look at Pei Wang.
In truth, she wasn’t so scared that she couldn’t move once she saw the dog; if Wang Cai didn’t bark, she would still dare to walk past it.
This was the first time she saw Pei Wang at a loss, and she couldn’t help but want to take a closer look.
Pei Wang clearly didn’t know how to move a stubborn dog. He even tried tossing a frisbee, trying to trick Wang Cai into fetching the item he threw.
However, Wang Cai was evidently a good guard dog and showed no interest in the game, remaining steadfastly at Pei Wang’s feet.
Pei Wang felt a slight headache.
He was always at a loss with silly yet cute animals like this. Pei Wang could only scratch the big yellow dog’s chin and jokingly negotiate with it, “How about you stay in the east side of the courtyard for a while, and I’ll share half of my dinner with you?”
The big yellow dog remained unmoved, even happily wagging its tail because it was being petted.
Jiang Shu couldn’t help but laugh.
She reached out to grab a corner of Pei Wang’s shirt: “Can’t you just carry me over?”
Jiang Shu put a little effort into it: “Pei Wang—”
Pei Wang turned back, crouching in front of her.
Jiang Shu lunged forward and wrapped her arms around his neck: “I’m good now.”
Pei Wang lifted her up and stood steadily, carrying her as he walked out of the courtyard.
The big yellow dog shook its fur, circled around his feet twice, and then followed them to the gate.
As soon as he stepped out of the courtyard, he heard the little girl laughing on his back: “You’re so silly, Pei Wang.”
A slight tremor came from his back as the little girl continued to laugh: “You actually expected the dog to understand your complicated words.”
Pei Wang helplessly called out to her: “Shu Shu.”
His voice was lowered, the ending rising slightly, carrying a hint of indulgence and affection.
Jiang Shu rested her head against Pei Wang’s shoulder.
This was Pei Wang being foolish for her sake.
