The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 53
Jiang Shu smiled as well, glanced back at the Camera Brother who was a little distance away, and nodded in agreement, “Right!”
She earnestly added, “This program team is really naughty.”
Uncle burst into laughter, patted the plastic bucket he was carrying, and bent down to enter the field. “Little Kid, without water boots, you can only go in barefoot!”
Jiang Shu frowned, “Is there really no other way?”
She completely did not want to go in barefoot.
Uncle took a spray nozzle from the plastic apparatus on his back and began to fiddle with the equipment. He lifted his foot and wiggled it playfully, saying, “There is another way.”
He kicked his leg and continued jovially, “After I finish in the field, I’ll lend you my water boots to wear.”
That suggestion didn’t sound too appealing either.
Moreover, it was clear that Uncle was just joking with her.
Jiang Shu sighed and squatted down on the bank, watching as Uncle removed the spray nozzle and took off the plastic bag on top—
Her eyes lit up. “Uncle!”
She stood up, clasped her hands together in a pleading gesture, and asked, “Do you have any plastic bags at home? Could you lend me a couple?”
Seeing Uncle fall into thought, she quickly added, “I’ll return them to you later, I can even give you back more than you lend me—”
Uncle laughed at her, “What do I need so many plastic bags for?”
He patted the apparatus on his back, saying, “Just wait for me to finish spraying, and you can come back with me to get them.”
Jiang Shu didn’t know how long Uncle would be spraying, and she feared that taking too long would affect the total bonus she would earn from the tasks. While debating whether to return and change tasks or be brave enough to go barefoot into the field, she saw Uncle rummaging through a pocket next to the plastic container. “Oh, looks like you’re in luck.”
He pulled out a few crumpled plastic bags from the pocket and tossed them over from a distance. “I’ve packed a few more here.”
The plastic bags landed on the bank, and Jiang Shu quickly picked them up, thanked Uncle, then took off her shoes, slipping the plastic bags over her feet and tying the openings.
She cautiously stepped into the field.
The water in the field was warm from the sun, and Jiang Shu bent down, scrutinizing the seedlings in the field—
The more abundant ones should be rice, while the few others were likely weeds.
Jiang Shu extended her hand, lightly touched a weed that looked somewhat different, and, mustering her strength, tried to pull it out, but hesitated.
Then she turned her head to Uncle, who was not far away. “Uncle, how do you distinguish between weeds and rice seedlings? Do I just pull them out?”
Uncle paused spraying and looked at her. “In modern society, of course, we just spray herbicide to eliminate weeds.”
He shook the spray nozzle in his hand.
Jiang Shu: “?”
Jiang Shu straightened up, her expression complicated.
Uncle chuckled again, “Feel free to pull some out; they’ve already done weeding twice in the field before planting, so there shouldn’t be much wild grass growing.”
Jiang Shu decided to trust him. She bent down and made two circles in the field, pulling out the few differently growing weeds, then squatted by the ditch to wash her hands, feeling a bit guilty as she sought out the task issuer.
She wasn’t sure if her weeding was up to par.
However, the task issuer didn’t enter the field to check closely; he just asked a couple of questions and stamped her card.
Jiang Shu let out a sigh of relief. She took her card to the village entrance, received the task bonus from the Director, and then looked at the remaining tasks.
The other guests had evidently all returned, leaving fewer tasks available. Jiang Shu carefully selected and then took on the task of shucking corn kernels.
This task sounded relatively easy, and Jiang Shu speculated that she would probably be helping out a family with their lunch preparations. However, as soon as she arrived at the task issuer’s home, she was taken to the top floor of the house.
Corn kernels were evenly spread out over most of the top floor, drying in the sun. In one small area was a small wooden stool stacked with corn cobs, resembling a small mountain.
The task issuer pointed at that little mountain: “Just finish shucking this area.”
He picked up an ear of corn and demonstrated, “Stick the scissors in, then twist a couple of times to shuck it.”
After shucking an ear of corn, he handed the scissors to Jiang Shu and then turned to go downstairs.Jiang Shu held the scissors and stared blankly at the pile of corn cobs for a moment before robotically sitting down on the small wooden stool.
The Camera Brother walked over, setting the camera up beside her.
Jiang Shu picked up a corn cob and, imitating the issuer’s actions, jabbed the scissors several times before finally inserting them into the cob. She then pressed the cob against the ground and twisted it forcefully twice.
The cob immediately shattered into pieces.
Jiang Shu picked up the broken corn cob and rubbed the kernels off from it.
After only a dozen cobs, she felt a sting in her palms.
She raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead and looked pained at the camera: “What kind of variety show is this?”
She murmured, “Is this a labor reform documentary?”
The labor reform documentary dragged on without finishing until noon, and Jiang Shu numbly continued to shuck corn. The Camera Brother quietly reminded her, “It’s almost lunchtime.”
Jiang Shu tossed aside the finished cob and mechanically reached for the next one: “The program team doesn’t provide lunch either.”
She inserted the scissors again: “Do I have to go house to house begging for lunch?”
The Camera Brother could only laugh awkwardly: “You can also buy lunch from the program team.”
He stated according to the director’s instructions: “Fifteen yuan for two meat dishes and two vegetable dishes.”
The price did sound quite reasonable.
The money she earned in the morning would be enough to buy a meal without her having to pay out of pocket.
Jiang Shu silently complained a bit, then still stood up from the stool, sighing, “Let’s go.”
After all, she still needed to eat.
When Jiang Shu arrived at the village entrance, the other guests had basically all arrived.
Under the small canopy set up by the program team, two new tables had been placed, with several lunch boxes on them.
“Everyone is here.” The director counted the number of people and then announced, “Before you all buy lunch, I need to tell you that our rules have changed temporarily.”
He explained, “Starting from the afternoon, groups cannot split up while doing tasks.”
The guests exchanged glances, and Lin Hui let out a sigh of relief, whispering something to Wang Siyuan. However, Yu Zhen frowned and looked up to question, “You just said this morning that the rules wouldn’t change, and now they are?”
The director, unfazed by the questioning, smiled and said, “The points rules haven’t changed; I’m changing the grouping rules.”
Yu Zhen turned her head away in annoyance.
The director didn’t take offense; he clapped his hands: “Alright, if there’s nothing else, does anyone want to buy lunch?”
He called out, “Fifteen yuan per meal, great value—”
After the recording of the first episode, the guests had learned the most economical way to buy lunch. Ren Lishu and Qiao Xian exchanged a glance, then Qiao Xian took the initiative and said, “We’ll take one meal.”
Wang Siyuan and Lin Hui only ordered one meal as well.
Jiang Shu watched them take their lunch boxes and then turned to look for Pei Wang.
Although she really wanted to minimize contact with Pei Wang, she felt it unnecessary to let her selfishness cause her to buy an extra meal.
After all, that was lunch worth two tasks!
Jiang Shu moved over and softly called, “Pei Wang.”
She poked the back of Pei Wang’s hand and pointed ahead: “Should we also buy one meal together?”
Pei Wang replied, “Okay.”
He also ordered a lunch box and sat down at the table with Jiang Shu, then reached over and held her hand completely.Pei Wang lowered his brows, turned her hand over, and gently touched the blister in her palm with his fingertip. “How did you get hurt?”
