Jiang Shu followed Pei Wang to the mall.

The coffee shop was on the second floor of the store, and it was quite spacious. Perhaps because it’s summer vacation and many students were home, there weren’t too many people in the shop.

Jiang Shu pushed the door open and took a couple of steps inside. Just as she was about to look for a server, she heard a meow, and then a white, round object rolled towards her, landing at her feet.

“Meow—”

The white cat lay on the floor, rolled its chubby body, and then precisely placed its paw on Jiang Shu’s foot.

It tilted its head, its lake-blue eyes staring straight at her.

Jiang Shu let out a small “Wow” and crouched down to pet the cat’s head. Then she turned to Pei Wang and asked, “Is this a house cat?”

Pei Wang also walked over to the cat: “I don’t know.”

He squatted down as well, playfully teasing the cat with his hand before looking up at Jiang Shu and honestly admitting, “I found this place through some recommendations on a review app.”

Jiang Shu looked at him in surprise: “I was wondering how you knew so much.”

Of course, cats couldn’t be petted for free. Jiang Shu gave the cat’s head a gentle stroke and then walked to the cashier: “Excuse me, how much does it cost to pet the cat?”

The cashier pointed to a small blackboard in front of her.

Various packages were listed on it. Jiang Shu tilted her head in thought for a moment and then pointed to the bottom package: “Petting the cat with a random drink and snack.”

She was a bit curious: “Can I specify the random item, or do you choose it for me?”

The staff explained, “We choose it randomly, in the format of a blind box.”

Jiang Shu nodded and turned to Pei Wang, asking, “Do you want something random?”

Pei Wang looked up, seemingly trying to see the drinks menu. However, just as his gaze brushed past, the white cat suddenly kicked his hand away.

Jiang Shu laughed, and Pei Wang shook his head: “It seems it doesn’t like me very much.”

He stood up and walked over to Jiang Shu’s side, glancing at the drink menu: “I’m not really familiar with these.”

Pei Wang lowered his eyelashes slightly, his brows lightly furrowing, then turned his head, letting his gaze settle on Jiang Shu with a hint of uncertainty, his lips pressing together a bit as if he was unsure.

Jiang Shu instinctively offered, “Shall I help you choose?”

She examined the drink menu: “Do you prefer sweet, sour, or just plain coffee?”

“Anything is fine,” Pei Wang smiled a little. “But I’d like to try what you like.”

He thought for a moment and tentatively asked, “The flavors that young people enjoy?”

Jiang Shu laughed again and pointed to an item on the drink menu: “Then let’s get this one.”

She read the code for the drink to the cashier, then scanned to pay and walked to a table with Pei Wang.

Upon seeing her move, the white cat instantly jumped up from the ground, its fluffy tail flicking twice, then it casually walked over, rubbed against Jiang Shu a couple of times, and collapsed on the floor.

“Meow—”

The white cat began to paw at her pant leg.

Jiang Shu bent down slightly, reached out to pet the white cat’s head, and quietly asked the server who was bringing over snacks, “Can I hold it?”

The server hesitated for a moment: “You can try.”

“This cat doesn’t like being held much, and it might struggle to jump away,” she added, worried Jiang Shu might misunderstand. “But it won’t bite you; you can give it a try.”

Jiang Shu shook her head: “Forget it.”

She murmured, “Let it do whatever it wants.”

The white cat rolled over again, letting out a couple of soft meows.

Jiang Shu pondered for a moment: “Does it want food?” She scanned the upright charging board and then asked the server for two packets of cat treats.

Suddenly, the cat that had been lying on the floor stood up, eagerly meowing a couple of times, rubbing against Jiang Shu’s feet.

Jiang Shu handed a packet of cat treats to Pei Wang: “Try feeding it with this; perhaps it will like you.”

Pei Wang took the cat treats, tore a small hole, and the white cat immediately perked up, abandoning Jiang Shu to jump onto Pei Wang’s lap.

The white cat clearly had experience with treats; it didn’t need to bite the bag but patiently waited for someone to squeeze the meat paste out before leisurely extending its tongue to lick it clean.

Jiang Shu leaned on the table watching the cat: “It’s so cute.”

While feeding the cat, Pei Wang looked at her, raising his eyelashes: “Do you like cats?””Why not raise one at home?”

Jiang Shu shook her head slightly: “My mom is allergic to cat hair.”

Although the villa was large enough to keep the cat in a separate room, she felt that isolating the cat would be too restrictive, so she ultimately decided against getting a cat.

The server returned, placing a random drink and the beverage Jiang Shu ordered for Pei Wang on the table.

Jiang Shu’s random drink was a cup of coffee adorned with a latte art of a lounging fat cat.

“How cute.” Jiang Shu admired the design, then took a sip, her expression immediately falling.

The girl furrowed her brows tightly, pressing her lips together as she swallowed the coffee with difficulty, then pushed the cup aside, complaining, “It’s so bitter.”

Pei Wang had just finished feeding a cat treat, and the white cat was now licking its paw in his lap. “Aren’t you used to drinking coffee?”

He handed his drink to Jiang Shu: “I haven’t touched it yet.”

The bitterness of the coffee lingered in her mouth, and without hesitation, she took the drink from Pei Wang, drank a couple of sips to suppress the coffee’s taste, then raised her head, exclaiming regretfully, “I’ll go buy you another cup.”

“There’s no need,” Pei Wang stopped her. He moved the coffee beside him closer and gently said, “I don’t mind this.”

With no more food, the cat jumped off his lap and started rubbing against Jiang Shu’s ankles.

Jiang Shu also opened a cat treat, and the white cat hopped into her lap, eagerly licking the treat.

She returned to the previous topic: “You mentioned that you suffered a severe head injury when the orphanage found you?”

Jiang Shu had a worst-case assumption.

Regardless of whether it was a case of being lost or abducted, it wouldn’t make sense for a child to be taken from within the country to overseas; more likely, someone had deliberately taken Pei Wang.

And the head of the orphanage didn’t merely find a child with a severe head injury but encountered a botched murder disposal case.

Jiang Shu blinked and extended her hand forward: “You’re so pitiful.”

Pei Wang chuckled, reaching out to poke Jiang Shu in the palm: “What? Are you trying to comfort me?”

Jiang Shu instinctively curled her hand in.

She had indeed briefly wanted to stroke Pei Wang’s hair, but she quickly suppressed that thought.

She glanced to the side: “No, no—”

Jiang Shu widened her eyes and abruptly turned her head back.

Pei Wang gently grasped her wrist, leaned forward slightly, lowered his head, and rested her hand atop his hair.

He lifted his eyelashes, revealing his dark pupils, his peach blossom eyes slightly drooping, exuding a calm and gentle aura, resembling a docile large dog.

Jiang Shu instinctively began to rub.

In truth, his hair didn’t have a pleasant texture; Pei Wang’s hair was not soft and even felt a little prickly, yet Jiang Shu remained momentarily frozen before slowly withdrawing her hand.

It felt too strange.

Jiang Shu bit her lip.

This interaction was not how siblings should behave.Pei Wang’s image as a good older brother suddenly tore apart, but he was so indulgent and gentle that she subconsciously began to align his image with something she had never considered before.

She felt an inexplicable fear, so she instinctively intensified her tone, trying to reestablish Pei Wang’s former persona.

Jiang Shu called out, “Brother.”

Pei Wang sat up straight, letting out a soft nasal sound, “Hmm?”

To divert her attention, Jiang Shu racked her brain for events from today, then selected something that seemed to have potential for conversation: “Well, I ran into my second uncle today.”

She recounted her encounter with Jiang Tingfeng word for word.

Jiang Shu paused, trying to come up with a reason for bringing up this topic. Before she could think of one, she suddenly heard a voice in her mind—

“Ding! The malicious male antagonist Jiang Tingfeng is deliberately sowing discord. Please confront the malicious male antagonist as soon as possible!”

Jiang Shu instinctively looked at Pei Wang.

“Ah?” she asked dryly, “Is he trying to sow discord?”
