As Jiang Shu entered the elevator of the Jiang Corporation Building, she was still contemplating Pei Wang’s proposal.

She felt a bit moved.

It was a tempting offer, but did free lunches really exist in this world?

Jiang Shu thought about it all the way up, but by the time the elevator stopped, she still couldn’t figure out what Pei Wang could gain from her.

Perhaps this was the depth of sibling affection?

Jiang Shu pondered uncertainly.

The elevator doors had opened, and as Jiang Shu stepped out and was about to head to the office, she heard a male voice call out, “Shu Shu?”

Instinctively, Jiang Shu looked up.

It was a tall man wearing a short-sleeved floral shirt, with thin-framed glasses, gentle features, and fine wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, holding a file in his hand.

Jiang Shu blinked. “Second Uncle?”

It was her second uncle, Jiang Tingfeng.

Jiang Tingfeng was the second son of Grandfather Jiang, born to his second wife, and he did not share the same mother as Jiang Shu’s father.

Jiang Shu was not particularly close to this second uncle—

Since she could remember, her father and mother had raised her away from the Jiang family’s old residence, so she had only seen her second uncle during the New Year visits to the old family home.

She didn’t know much about Jiang Tingfeng, only that he had a background in finance and also worked at Jiang Corporation.

However, his position wasn’t very high; he was a manager in a remote department.

Jiang Shu had been at the Jiang Corporation Building for nearly a week, and this was the first time she had run into him.

She looked up and displayed a polite smile, greeting him, “Hello, Second Uncle.”

Jiang Tingfeng nodded and flashed the file he was holding. “I came to pick up something.”

He smiled gently. “What brings you to the company? Are you looking for your older brother?”

Jiang Tingfeng pressed the button for the upper floors, reminding her, “The President’s Office is on the nineteenth floor.”

Jiang Shu shook her head. “I’m not going up.”

She explained, “I’m here on behalf of Manager Liu to discuss a contract—”

Suddenly, Jiang Shu froze.

Oh no, she had forgotten to continue discussing the contract with Pei Wang.

Jiang Tingfeng also appeared stunned. “Contract?”

He seemed to be momentarily taken aback, then gradually broke into a smile, joking, “Has your brother already begun training heirs this early?”

He freed one hand to pat Jiang Shu’s shoulder. “You need to work hard.”

The elevator doors had opened again, and as Jiang Tingfeng stepped in, he held the door open button. “By the way, I saw you on a variety show with a boy.”

“Is he the lost child from your brother’s family?” He seemed a bit emotional. “So many years have passed, and they finally found him.”

Jiang Shu didn’t know how to respond, so she could only smile and nod.

Jiang Tingfeng clearly was not concerned about her reaction, as he casually asked, “Now that he’s been found, why hasn’t he changed his last name back?”

Jiang Shu replied, “He doesn’t want to.”

“That makes sense.” Jiang Tingfeng smiled, the fine wrinkles at the corners of his eyes folding together. “After all, he’s gotten used to that name.”

“Whether he changes his name or not isn’t truly important.” He chuckled and shook his head. “In any case, he’s your brother’s own flesh and blood. Eventually, the Jiang Corporation will belong to him.”

As Jiang Tingfeng said this, he nodded at her. “I have things to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now.”

He removed his finger from the door-open button, and the elevator doors slowly began to close.Jiang Shu silently stared at the elevator for a while, then shook her head and took out her phone.

She had returned to the company to finalize the contract, but it was only after Jiang Tingfeng’s reminder that she realized she hadn’t negotiated the contract at all.

Feeling defeated, Jiang Shu sent a message to Pei Wang.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Are you on your way out already?

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Crying cat.jpg

She speculated that Pei Wang had probably already left by car and likely wouldn’t have time to reply to her message. However, it wasn’t long before Pei Wang responded.

[Pei Wang]: What’s wrong?

[Pei Wang]: I’m coming back now.

It was clear that Pei Wang had already left, but he chose to turn back because of her message—

Jiang Shu bit her lip.

She thought about sending a message to Pei Wang to say it wasn’t necessary to come back, but she genuinely wanted him to return.

Jiang Shu struggled for several minutes, and by the time Pei Wang’s message came through again, she still hadn’t managed to send out her refusal that she had been drafting for so long.

[Pei Wang]: I’ve arrived.

Feeling guilty, Jiang Shu clutched her phone and hurriedly took the elevator downstairs, jogging to Pei Wang’s car.

Pei Wang rolled down the window, and Jiang Shu rested her hand on the window, her eyelashes casting shadows on her cheeks as she softly said, “We haven’t finalized the contract yet.”

Pei Wang smiled, “Are you still holding on to your share proposal?”

He reached over to open the glove compartment in the front passenger seat, pulling out two copies of documents: “I had the Legal Department draft a contract based on your requirements during lunch.”

Pei Wang handed over the two documents. “No need to rush into a decision; the project won’t start for a while yet, so there’s room for negotiation.”

Jiang Shu took the two contracts, nodding slightly as if she understood, “Okay.”

She grabbed the documents and was about to leave when she remembered something and turned back to squat by the car window: “By the way, there’s something I’ve always wanted to ask you.”

Pei Wang tilted his head to look at her, his Adam’s apple moving as he made a soft sound of confusion, “Hmm?”

Jiang Shu glanced around and then opened the back door, sitting inside the car: “It’s a personal matter.”

She leaned over the front seat, tilting her head to look at Pei Wang: “Were you adopted abroad?”

Pei Wang turned his head, looking at her deeply for a moment: “Yes.”

He had been seven years old when he was adopted by Pei Songyu, at an age when he could remember things clearly.

He indeed lived in an orphanage for some time, and Pei Songyu chose him from among a group of children because he shared the same skin color and hair as her.

Jiang Shu’s fingers curled around the strap of the neck pillow: “But Dad said you were lost.”

If he was lost, how could Pei Wang have ended up in an orphanage abroad?

Moreover—

Jiang Shu leaned forward slightly, resting closely against the front seat: “You were already six years old when you went missing, right?”

She whispered, “Don’t you remember Mom and Dad’s phone numbers and home address?”

Pei Wang lowered his gaze: “I don’t remember.”

He paused for a moment, then raised his brow, looking ahead: “I was found by someone and taken to the orphanage; my head got a severe injury, and when I woke up, I remembered nothing.”

Before Jiang and Jiang found him, he initially thought he had been abandoned by his biological family and therefore never considered trying to find his real parents.

Once Jiang and Jiang found him, he immediately realized there were issues behind his going missing. However, too much time had passed for such matters to be investigated, and with Pei Songyu’s illness, he set that thought aside.

Jiang Shu widened her eyes in surprise, and as she moved her lips, she was about to speak—

“Bang bang bang!”

Suddenly, there was a sound of someone knocking on the glass. Pei Wang rolled down the window, and a bright yellow figure appeared outside, frowning as they reminded, “You can’t park here for long.”

The traffic officer waved a stack of tickets in their hand: “If you don’t leave soon, I’m going to give you a ticket.”

Pei Wang started the car, apologizing, “Sorry, we’re on our way now.”

He drove away from the Jiang Corporation building, parking in a nearby shopping district’s underground parking lot.“There’s a coffee shop nearby with a very good reputation,” Pei Wang gently invited. “We can go there and sit down for a while to talk.”
