The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 44
The first time Pei Wang returned to the Jiang Family, Father Jiang and Mother Jiang had prepared gifts for him as well.
Jiang Shu didn’t think much and took the box, saying, “Thank you, Auntie.”
The box looked somewhat old, its wood a deep color, as if it had developed that hue from being touched over a long period. The clasp was also an old style, appearing to be made of brass, with a reddish-golden sheen.
Jiang Shu opened the box.
Inside was a woven Grass Ring that seemed somewhat aged, the grass color slightly yellowed. Perhaps to protect the ring, it was covered in a wax-like substance.
Aunt Pei gave her a Grass Ring?
Jiang Shu felt confused.
But she still reached out to take the ring, preparing to express her fondness for this gift.
Then she noticed the letter paper pressed beneath the ring.
The paper had yellowed a bit, and out of curiosity, Jiang Shu took it out and glanced at it.
It was a Guarantee Letter.
The guarantor was Pei Wang, and the contents guaranteed that he would always listen to the person he made a promise to and would never make that person angry.
However, the promise recipient was left blank, with no name signed.
The handwriting was neat and clear, every stroke written with care, but the strokes were somewhat rounded, exhibiting a childlike quality.
Jiang Shu blinked.
This ring paired with this Guarantee Letter—
She vaguely sensed that something was off, but she couldn’t pinpoint what was strange yet when Pei Songyu spoke up: “If he makes you angry in the future…”
She paused, her eyelashes fluttering gently, her gaze lowered, and she leaned against the wall, exuding a hint of faint melancholy.
However, this melancholy quickly faded as Pei Songyu smiled again: “If he makes you angry in the future, just show him this Guarantee Letter.”
Jiang Shu’s thoughts were diverted, and she instinctively replied, “Isn’t that just to complain to you?”
Pei Songyu’s fingers twitched slightly.
Jiang Shu realized.
Pei Songyu was unaware of the System’s existence; she felt she wouldn’t live to see the “future,” so she spoke to Jiang Shu as if outlining a will.Jiang Shu grabbed Pei Songyu’s hand and smiled up at her, saying, “What if Pei Wang plays tricks and doesn’t acknowledge this Guarantee Letter?”
She sat on the small stool beside the bed, resting her cheek in Pei Songyu’s palm, and winked at her. “This Guarantee Letter isn’t as reliable as you.”
Pei Songyu smiled and gently patted Jiang Shu on the top of her head. “Alright, Auntie will have your back from now on.”
Not wanting to continue on that topic, she changed the subject. “Why did the baby come to the hospital?”
Pei Songyu assumed that Pei Wang encountered Jiang Shu at the hospital and brought her along. “Are you sick?”
Jiang Shu straightened up and shook her head. “I came to Jinghua to discuss a contract and just came along.”
Pei Songyu took her time to say, “Oh.”
Having been in the music industry, she wasn’t familiar with company matters, so she casually asked, “Did you finalize the contract?”
Jiang Shu instinctively looked at Pei Wang.
Pei Wang moved a small stool to the bedside and sat down next to Jiang Shu. “It’s all settled.”
Pei Songyu didn’t think much of it and moved past the topic. “I watched the program you recorded.”
Jiang Shu remembered the chaos she caused during her first episode.
She raised her hand to cover her face. “I was a bit awful in the recording. I’m sorry.”
Pei Songyu gently pulled her wrist down. “You weren’t awful at all.” She praised, “You’re super cute.”
With curiosity, she then asked, “Was it fun recording the program?”
Jiang Shu thought for a moment. “It was alright.”
Aside from a few unexpected incidents with the Program Team, the rest of the setup was quite interesting.
Jiang Shu shared two interesting things that happened with Pei Songyu.
She lifted her head to look at Pei Songyu, only to find her leaning against the wall, eyes closed, already asleep.
Jiang Shu instinctively quieted down and turned to Pei Wang, whispering, “Brother.”
Pei Wang turned his head to look over.
Then he stood up from the sofa, reached out, and gently positioned Pei Songyu’s shoulders down, carefully allowing her to lie flat.
Jiang Shu lightly grabbed Pei Wang’s sleeve, looking up at him. “So, should I take my leave?”
Pei Wang arranged the blanket for Pei Songyu, then looked down at Jiang Shu. “How are you getting back?”
The person in charge of that project had driven away first, and Jiang Shu had come to the hospital with him.
Jiang Shu tilted her head. “By subway?”
Pei Wang smiled gently. “Are we going to make our baby suffer and take the subway after coming here?”
He took the car keys. “I’ll give you a ride.”
Jiang Shu stared at him. “What did you call me?”
She held onto Pei Wang’s sleeve and followed him out of the hospital room, then dared to raise her voice. “Don’t use Auntie’s way of addressing me!”
Pei Wang tilted his head, his eyes slightly narrowed and upward. “What did I learn?”
He lowered his voice, laughter tinging it as he deliberately teased her. “Baby.”
Jiang Shu gripped his wrist tightly and lowered her voice. “Pei Wang!”
She stopped in place, looking up at him with wide eyes. Just as she was about to say something else, she saw Pei Wang lower his eyelashes.
He whispered, “Thank you.”
Jiang Shu’s anger was suddenly doused; she released her grip, feeling a bit embarrassed. “It’s nothing.”
She followed Pei Wang outside and curiously asked, “How many points do you have saved up?”
After the System stopped binding to the villainous role, the frequency of task assignments noticeably decreased. However, the points earned from slap-in-the-face tasks increased.
Pei Wang led Jiang Shu to the parking lot. “Three hundred and ten points.”
He opened the car door for Jiang Shu. “You encounter more slap-in-the-face tasks at the company.”
Pei Wang got into the car himself and turned to ask her, “Are we going back to the company?”
Jiang Shu sighed deeply. “Yeah.”
She fastened the seatbelt, leaned back in the chair, and looked desperate. “Dad doesn’t know what he’s thinking, always wanting me to deal with company affairs.”
Jiang Shu turned to Pei Wang and complained, “When are you coming back to the Jiang Family to take over the company?”
She muttered, “I don’t want to deal with these things anymore.”
Pei Wang had just started the car when he turned his head in confusion. “Hmm?”
He quickly realized that when he had told Father Jiang and Mother Jiang that he wouldn’t acknowledge the Jiang Family and didn’t plan to inherit the company, Jiang Shu wasn’t present.
She hadn’t heard any of that.
Pei Wang pulled the handbrake again and explained, “I mentioned to Father Jiang before that I wouldn’t recognize the Jiang Family and wasn’t planning to take over the company.”
Jiang Shu was taken aback for a moment.
She quickly deduced Pei Wang’s reasons for not going back to the Jiang Family, and she pursed her lips, “No wonder Dad has been trying to drag me to the company lately.”
Jiang Shu leaned forward and widened her eyes. “So it’s all your fault!”
She grabbed Pei Wang’s sleeve and shook him around. “You have to compensate me—”
Like a cat rolling around at its owner’s feet, begging for treats.
Pei Wang chuckled lightly. “Okay.” He replied, “I’ll compensate you.”
Jiang Shu paused for a moment before realizing. She exclaimed, “Really?”
She tilted her head. “What will you use to compensate?”
Jiang Shu looked at him with anticipation. “Are you planning to take over the Jiang family?”
Pei Wang smiled and said, “That would require the Jiang Family and Jinghua to merge.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Shu genuinely became curious. “Under what circumstances would those two companies merge?”
Pei Wang paused for a moment, then lightly lifted his eyelashes, his gaze quickly falling back to Jiang Shu. “Through a marriage alliance.”
He pointed. “You and me.”
Jiang Shu: “?”
“What are you talking about? That’s impossible.” She felt like she had been tricked. “We are siblings.”
Pei Wang let out a faint laugh. “Do we have a blood relationship?”
Jiang Shu shook her head.
Pei Wang then asked, “Are we on the same household registration?”
Jiang Shu shook her head again.
Pei Wang spread his hands. “See.”
He shook his head. “Then we’re not siblings.”
Jiang Shu was stunned; she instinctively felt Pei Wang’s logic was flawed but couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. She was anxiously thinking along the way, and by the time Pei Wang parked the car in front of the Jiang Family Building, she still hadn’t figured it out.
Pei Wang had already gotten out and opened the car door for her.
Jiang Shu stepped out of the car, hesitating as she stared at Pei Wang. Before she could say anything, he already spoke up, “I was just joking.”
Pei Wang raised his hand to straighten out her rumpled clothes. “Don’t worry.”
He said softly, “The company’s management isn’t just collecting a paycheck. If you don’t want to make major decisions, just talk to your dad.”
Pei Wang lowered his head and gently touched her forehead. “You can keep the shares, and I can help you manage the company.”
