Jiang Shu was taken aback, staring blankly at Pei Wang for a moment before instinctively asking, “Isn’t that inappropriate?”

Pei Wang was going to the hospital to accompany his mother; what was she going there for?

To disrupt their mother-son time?

Jiang Shu shook her head and mentally organized her schedule for the day: “I feel like we could finalize the contract this morning, so I planned to head back to the company this afternoon.”

Pei Wang turned his head and glanced at her.

His eyelashes were lowered, and his gaze drifted lightly over her before he bowed his head and chuckled softly, responding, “Alright.”

Pei Wang took Jiang Shu back to Jinghua. He had his secretary fetch the documents while he brought Jiang Shu into the office.

“You might have to wait a bit,” Pei Wang said gently. “Is there anything you’d like to drink?”

He added, “There’s drinking water, cola, and coconut juice in the pantry.”

After a moment’s thought, he continued, “If you want milk tea, I can have my secretary go buy some.”

“Oh, that would be too embarrassing.” Jiang Shu sat on the sofa, propping her face with her hands, and called out, “I’d like a cup of Starry Grape, and don’t forget to add double cream on top!”

Pei Wang instructed the secretary to go buy it. Jiang Shu sat idly for a while, then shook her small bag and asked, “Do you mind if I play on my phone?”

Pei Wang naturally didn’t mind.

Jiang Shu scrolled through today’s Weibo Hot Search.

It was Tuesday, and the latest preview for “Let’s Reconcile” had just been released, with relevant entries already on the trending list.

#ProgramTeamGiveAnExplanation

#ProgramTeamStopPlayingDead

Compared to the lively buzz during the first episode’s preview, this time’s entries were clearly filled with a sense of turmoil.

The program team had made multiple mistakes during this recording, and fans were relentlessly demanding a detailed apology and clarification.

Neither of these phrases were trending strongly; they were likely to rise briefly before dropping again.

It was clear that the program team was trying hard to mitigate the heat of these entries.

Jiang Shu was reminded of these two entries and lifted her head. “About the landslide incident—”

She instinctively fell silent.

Pei Wang was handling documents, wearing a pair of thin-framed glasses. His eyelashes partially obscured his eyes, concealing the gentleness conveyed by their shape, revealing a hint of indifference and coldness that gave him an especially refined yet debauched look.

Jiang Shu unconsciously propped her chin on her hand, staring at Pei Wang.

Pei Wang was typing; his fingers were long and well-defined. It was unclear whether it was due to his fair skin or the force he used, but Jiang Shu could faintly see the veins on the back of his hands.

He exuded an artistic and fragile allure.

Jiang Shu continued to stare for a while until a knock on the door broke her focus.

She quickly pulled her gaze away, hugging her phone close to her chest, and turned her head toward the doorway.

It was Pei Wang’s secretary who entered. He handed the drafted contract to Jiang Shu and also passed her the milk tea.

Jiang Shu accepted the contract, placed it on the coffee table, and then took the milk tea in her hands. “Thank you.”

The secretary smiled, “You’re welcome, it’s part of my job.”

He left the office, and Jiang Shu inserted a straw into the milk tea before opening the contract.

The contract had many details, but Jiang Shu confidently skipped over those, heading straight to the profit-sharing page.

The terms of the profit-sharing were quite different from what she had proposed.

Jiang Shu looked up with a complex expression. “Did you increase the share for the Jiang family?”

With this profit-sharing, she even began to doubt whether Jinghua would make any profit from this project.

Jiang Shu shook her head, was about to say something when she heard a ringing sound. Pei Wang answered a call, spoke a few low words, and then stood up from his chair.

He held his phone while calling out to her, “Shu Shu.”

Pei Wang said gently, “I have an impromptu meeting to attend; is it alright if Lin Yuan comes up to keep you company?”

She was not a child, she didn’t need anyone to accompany her.

Jiang Shu shook her head; the words of rejection were on the tip of her tongue when she suddenly remembered something, swallowed her words, and changed her response. “Sure.”

She could try discussing the contract with Lin Yuan.

As Pei Wang left the office, Jiang Shu cradled the milk tea and flipped through the contract again, just as she heard the sound of the door opening.

It was Lin Yuan arriving.

Jiang Shu greeted him, “Hello there.”

She picked up the contract nearby and waved it in front of Lin Yuan. “I think the profit-sharing in this contract isn’t quite right, and I’d like to discuss it further.”

Lin Yuan sat down on the single sofa next to her. “Then you should wait for Pei Wang.”

He considered what his friend had advised him before coming in and casually came up with a reason. “I can’t make decisions here; you need to discuss the contract with Pei Wang.”

“He will be in that meeting for quite a while.” Lin Yuan casually continued, “When he’s done, stop him from going to eat and talk about the profit-sharing.”

Jiang Shu was momentarily taken aback. “Huh?”

She said quietly, “Isn’t it unnecessary to delay his meal?”

“What else can be done?” Lin Yuan shot her a glance, then opened his hands in a gesture of helplessness. “Once Pei Wang eats, he’ll go to the hospital.”

He questioned, “Are you planning to go to the hospital with Pei Wang and discuss the contract there?”

Jiang Shu felt Lin Yuan was making a foolish suggestion.

She could call Pei Wang in the afternoon to discuss the contract, or come back to Jinghua Corporation tomorrow…

Any method would work, except for following Pei Wang to the hospital and then talking about the contract there.

But in the end, she still went to the hospital with Pei Wang.

The reason was that during lunch with Pei Wang, he had said to her——

“Would you like to go to the hospital with me? My mother hasn’t seen how we get along yet.”

“You and ‘we’” clearly referred to her and Father Jiang and Mother Jiang.

His tone had been light, and his voice calm, but Jiang Shu could detect a hint of loneliness from it at that moment.

Jiang Shu, feeling shamefully softhearted, then followed behind Pei Wang to the hospital.

She stepped into the elevator, watching as Pei Wang pressed the floor button. Then she licked her lips and nervously asked, “Should I act like we’re very close?”

Jiang Shu tilted her head. “Will that make Auntie feel a bit more at ease?”

Her own child getting along harmoniously with their family—Auntie Pei would surely find that reassuring?Pei Wang brushed his hand over her head and said, “No need.”

The elevator had already stopped, and Pei Wang led Jiang Shu out, walking to the front of the hospital room. He knocked lightly on the door.

He explained, “She might be taking a nap.”

The sound of the door opening soon followed. The Care Worker peeked outside and, upon seeing Pei Wang, fully opened the door. “She’s not asleep.”

Pei Songyu indeed wasn’t sleeping. She pushed her tablet aside and looked a bit surprised. “You came quite early today—”

As her gaze swept to the doorway, her voice suddenly halted.

Pei Songyu looked at Pei Wang for a moment, then gently blinked and shifted her gaze to Jiang Shu.

She revealed a warm smile, saying, “Hello there, darling.”

Pei Songyu took the initiative to say, “I saw you on the show; your name is Jiang Shu, right?”

Jiang Shu felt a bit worried.

Only the first episode had been aired so far, and at that time, she and Pei Wang hadn’t delved into the System matter. She had purposely acted a bit mischievous, worried that Auntie Pei might not like her.

Jiang Shu stepped into the hospital room, saying, “Hello, Auntie. I’m Jiang Shu.”

She placed the fruit basket she was carrying on the bedside table and apologized, “I came in a rush and didn’t bring anything.”

Pei Songyu smiled and replied, “That’s okay; coincidentally, I didn’t prepare any gifts either, so it’s even.”

“However, there should at least be a meeting gift,” Pei Songyu muttered to herself.

She bent down, opened the drawer at the head of the bed, and pulled out a wooden box, which she handed to Jiang Shu.

Pei Songyu playfully said, “It’s not expensive, so don’t be picky.”
