When Jiang Shu woke up, she realized she was resting against the backrest with a small blanket covering her. Pei Wang was sitting not far away at the dining table, working on the computer.

Jiang Shu quickly sat up: “What time is it?”

She glanced at the clock hanging on the wall and then widened her eyes in surprise: “It’s four o’clock?!”

Feeling a bit guilty, she remembered that it was her who had asked Pei Wang if he needed to take a nap, yet she had ended up falling asleep herself.

She tightened her grip on the little blanket and playfully blamed him: “Why didn’t you wake me up?”

Pei Wang turned his head to look at her, then took off his headphones. Before he could speak, Jiang Shu had already reacted.

She lowered her voice: “Are you in a meeting?”

She hoped her unreasonable remarks wouldn’t be overheard.

“No,” Pei Wang explained, “I’m discussing future plans with Lin Yuan.”

Jiang Shu blinked.

Got it, it’s a one-on-one meeting, so at most only one person would hear her nonsense.

Pei Wang held his headphones in his hand and gently asked, “Do you want to watch the game, Shu Shu?”

Jiang Shu shook her head: “You can continue your meeting.”

She set the little blanket aside, stood up to stretch for a moment, and then remembered something. She turned back to Pei Wang and cautiously asked, “Do I need to leave if you’re in a meeting?”

She was a bit worried about accidentally hearing any confidential information.

“No need,” Pei Wang smiled. He tilted his head slightly toward the camera not far away: “I didn’t even avoid the camera.”

Jiang Shu eyed him with suspicion, and upon seeing his calm expression, she felt reassured enough to sit back down on the sofa and tuck the little blanket back into the cushion.

Holding the cushion, she took out her phone and searched the forum for discussions related to the game.

Pei Wang glanced at her for a moment before putting on his headphones again.

The microphone had excellent pick-up quality; Lin Yuan didn’t hear Jiang Shu’s voice, but he caught everything Pei Wang said. Lin Yuan laughed: “Is there someone else in your room?”

Pei Wang responded, “Yes.”

He added an explanation: “It’s my sister.”

“Sister?” Lin Yuan didn’t pay much attention; he knew about the situation between Pei Wang and the Jiang Family.

He jokingly remarked: “Which sister? Biological sister or girlfriend?”

Pei Wang smiled but didn’t answer. Lin Yuan was surprised by Pei Wang’s attitude: “Wait… is there really something going on?”

Having known Pei Wang for many years, from university classmates to business partners, Lin Yuan had a good grasp of Pei Wang’s thoughts: “Is it really serious?”

Lin Yuan exclaimed in amazement: “An iron tree blooming, huh, Pei?”

Pei Wang didn’t respond; he simply furrowed his brows and calmly reasserted, “She is indeed my sister.”

He continued leisurely: “We can discuss the company matters tomorrow; let’s end the call for now.”

The meeting was cut off, and Pei Wang closed his laptop. Resting his head on his hand, he waited for a while before hearing his phone buzz with vibration.

Lin Yuan’s messages bombarded him.

[Lin Yuan]: Pei old dog, what’s the difference between your hints and a direct statement?

[Lin Yuan]: Discussing company matters tomorrow? So today we can only talk about other things, right?

[Lin Yuan]: Come on, I’m all ears today; let’s hear President Pei’s love story. The phone buzzed with notifications too many times. Jiang Shu tilted her head in suspicion and looked at Pei Wang: “Brother?”

Pei Wang hung up his phone, stood up, and said gently, “It’s nothing, just some promotional messages.”

Jiang Shu nodded, still uncertain, then turned over and lay on the armrest of the sofa, holding up her phone, lamenting to Pei Wang, “I saw spoilers for the game.”

She had originally thought the ending of the game would be escaping the city and returning to a normal world, but unexpectedly, this was just the beginning of a nested dilemma—

Outside the city was still a devastated world, and the game’s protagonist would continue to explore until death or resigned surrender.

Jiang Shu felt a bit unwilling: “There must be other endings.” She looked up at Pei Wang, prolonging her tone: “Brother—”

Pei Wang walked over, slightly bent down, and reached out his hand to her.

Jiang Shu quickly opened the game and stuffed her phone into the palm of Pei Wang’s hand.

Pei Wang held the phone, and just as he was about to sit down on the sofa, a knock echoed suddenly at the door.

Pei Wang went over to open the door, and a staff member stood outside, informing them, “The recording has ended.”

Jiang Shu heard what the staff member said and hurried over, somewhat excited: “Can we go home now?”

She turned to look at Pei Wang: “Are you staying in Qing City?”

Pei Wang shook his head, and Jiang Shu proactively invited, “Then shall we go back together?”

Pei Wang agreed.

The only remaining flight back to Jing City was at eight o’clock in the evening. Pei Wang booked the tickets, took Jiang Shu out for dinner, and by the time they boarded the plane to Jing City, the sky had completely darkened.

The Jiang Family had sent a car, and when Jiang Shu got in, she rolled down the window, looking at him with concern: “Do you have someone coming to pick you up?”

She rested her chin on the car window, her small face lit up with round eyes, eagerly watching him: “Do you want to come up with me?”

Jiang Shu patted the seat beside her: “The driver can take you first.”

Pei Wang walked over, bent down, and gently lifted Jiang Shu’s chin, pushing her head back inside the window.

“Brother isn’t coming with you.” He slightly arched his brow and showed Jiang Shu a smile.

He casually ruffled Jiang Shu’s hair: “Good night, Shu Shu.”

At this hour, Pei Songyu had likely already gone to bed, so Pei Wang didn’t go to the hospital and headed straight home.

The weather in Jing City wasn’t great either; there had been several rumbles of thunder while he was still in the car, and as soon as he arrived home, rain began to pour down.

Pei Wang turned on the lights, took a shower, grabbed a hairdryer, and was about to dry his hair when his phone suddenly beeped.

He thought it was Lin Yuan again, so he didn’t rush to reply. He plugged in the hairdryer, adjusted the temperature, and then looked down at his phone.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Are you asleep?

This was the first time Jiang Shu had messaged him since he added her on WeChat.

Pei Wang paused for a moment. He was about to reply when he saw three emojis quickly pop up on the screen.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Cat feeling wronged.JPG

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Cat choked up.JPG

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Cat running away from home.JPG

Pei Wang couldn’t help but chuckle. Holding the hairdryer in one hand, he typed back with the other—

Pei Wang: No.Jiang Shu seemed to be waiting for this response; as soon as he sent it, her message popped up immediately.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: I’m alone in the room.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: The wind outside is really strong, and the sound of the rain is really loud. Don’t you think it’s very similar to the environment in the game? Are you scared, brother?

Pei Wang ran his fingers through his damp hair.

The young girl probably played the game during the day and got scared, so she reached out to talk to him, wanting to ease her anxiety.

He tapped the screen of his phone.

The young girl seemed to be taken aback by his reply; after a while, she sent another message.

[My Shu Shu Yule]: I’m scared too. Poor cat.JPG

[My Shu Shu Yule]: My mom and dad are both asleep, and I don’t want to disturb them. But I think it might be less scary if we’re together.

Then the young girl boldly asked—

[My Shu Shu Yule]: Can I call you on voice chat?
