The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 37
Jiang Shu didn’t expect Pei Wang to be so perceptive.
She stared at him blankly for a while, then hesitantly blinked and asked softly, “Do you mind?”
She raised her hand, tapping her temple with her fingertips, and said, “I can hear its voice.”
Pei Wang froze.
He looked at Jiang Shu, who was anxiously watching him, before suddenly laughing, “Shu Shu.”
He affectionately ruffled her hair, “Did you hear about the System’s slap-in-the-face mission?”
So back at the Jiang family, to cooperate with the System, she had performed a fall and twisted her ankle, staging a clumsy setup that ended up injuring herself.
The little girl looked up at him, her eyes round and slightly drooping at the corners, appearing to carry a hint of grievance.
It seemed like she was unhappy about being seen as the Vicious Supporting Female Character.
Pei Wang furrowed his brows and gently soothed, “Do you remember the first time we went to the Jiang family? I went to the bathroom.”
He confessed, “Actually, I went to negotiate with it.”
Pei Wang tugged at Jiang Shu’s sleeve, subtly moving toward the edge of the bed. Jiang Shu instinctively followed, emitting a small noise, “Hmm?”
She asked curiously, “Negotiate?”
Pei Wang replied, “I asked it if it could untie me.”
He sat at the edge of the bed, smiling as he looked up at Jiang Shu, “After all, I don’t want to do slap-in-the-face tasks, nor do I need the promised wealth or power.”
Jiang Shu: “?”
Jiang Shu looked at him suspiciously, “Are you lying to me? Aren’t you doing a mission?”
She distinctly recalled hearing the task completion notification multiple times. Although those tasks were completed in strange ways, she didn’t even know when she had been “slapped in the face.”
Pei Wang gently lowered his eyelashes, his expression becoming more subdued.
Jiang Shu sensed something unusual from his reaction, instinctively moving closer to him, “Brother?”
She placed her hand over the back of Pei Wang’s hand, trying to comfort him, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it.”
Pei Wang turned his head to look at her. His gaze lightly skimmed over Jiang Shu’s hand, and then his palm slightly moved, entwining Jiang Shu’s hand with his own, “There’s nothing I can’t say.”
He spoke softly, “My mother is seriously ill, and the System provided a healing pill that needs a thousand points.”
.
When Jiang Shu woke up, she was still thinking—
She hadn’t expected things to develop this way.
After having a heartfelt talk with Pei Wang last night, she decided to quickly gather the thousand points by shearing the System’s wool together.
The System’s “ding ding” sounds resonated almost all night, until they had accumulated two hundred fifty points, at which point it finally reacted and dinged once more.
“Abnormal points acquisition detected, reported to upper system, bug fixing in progress, points acquisition has been suspended.”
She didn’t know how long the System would be reporting, so she sat on Pei Wang’s bed waiting, only to inadvertently fall asleep while waiting.
Jiang Shu sat up.
The curtains in the room were pulled up, allowing a little light to filter in. Jiang Shu used the light to look around and, not seeing Pei Wang, she lifted the blanket and got out of bed to open the curtains.
She had occupied Pei Wang’s bed last night; he probably went to sleep in her room.
The sunlight streamed in blindingly, and Jiang Shu squinted until she adjusted, then went to wash up in the bathroom.
By the time she finished and stepped outside, Pei Wang was already standing by the dining table, which was laid out with a row of breakfast items.
Half were Chinese and half were Western-style, each portion small, but they filled the entire dining table with an array of options.Pei Wang helped her unwrap the disposable tableware and said, “I didn’t know what breakfast you would like, so I just picked a little bit of everything.”
It was very thoughtful and meticulous.
Jiang Shu subconsciously pointed out, “Why didn’t you ask me before buying breakfast? I don’t want to eat it.”
Pei Wang turned his head to look at her, and Jiang Shu quickly realized her mistake. She pulled out a chair to sit down and rested her chin in her hand, apologizing, “That’s not what I meant.”
Having gotten used to teasing the System with Pei Wang last night, she said it without thinking.
Pei Wang smiled, “I know.”
He pushed the glass in front of him closer to her, saying, “There’s milk and soymilk.”
Jiang Shu took a cup of hot milk, then picked a slice of French toast and a sushi roll, saying, “This is enough for me.”
After taking a sip of milk and licking off a bit of milk left on her lips, she leaned in a bit and asked quietly, “Is your System repaired now?”
Jiang Shu felt a bit curious about how the System would go about fixing these bugs.
Would it enhance its protection to prevent her from hearing its voice? Or would it modify the criteria for slap-in-the-face judgments? Perhaps—
Pei Wang chuckled softly, “It has been repaired.”
The silly System used a completely unexpected method for repair: “It changed the binding to a vile supporting female character.”
Jiang Shu tilted her head, puzzled, “Huh?”
She forked a small piece of toast and asked, “Who did it bind to?”
“Random binding,” Pei Wang explained. “It temporarily binds to whoever causes trouble; it won’t fixate on any one person anymore.”
Jiang Shu bit down on her fork and blinked, “What if I cause trouble—”
“Yours won’t count,” Pei Wang said with a chuckle, “The System has put you on its blacklist.”
Jiang Shu mumbled, “How petty.”
She wanted to say more, but noticed the indicator light of the camera not far away turn on.
Jiang Shu froze for a moment, “Are they filming this early?”
She checked the time on her phone and was greatly shocked, “Is it already nine o’clock?”
After finishing her breakfast, Jiang Shu pushed her tableware aside and leaned on the table to ask Pei Wang, “Do you have any plans for this morning?”
After deciding last night not to go out for recordings today, he had contacted his assistant to have him send over the work for the next couple of days.
However, none of it was urgent, so pushing it back a day wouldn’t be an issue.
Pei Wang tilted his head and calmly replied, “No.” He then gently asked, “Does Shu Shu have something she wants to do?”
Jiang Shu widened her eyes and pushed her phone forward, “A new game I booked is launching today.”
She leaned further forward, looking at Pei Wang with eager eyes, “Will you play it with me?”
It was a scary single-player puzzle game, one she had booked with her roommate before the break, and they had agreed to play together when it launched.
However, the launch of the game was delayed by a few days, coinciding perfectly with her vacation. Her roommate had all played it, one after the other saying it was fun, but she was left too scared to play.
A horror game.
Pei Wang glanced lightly at Jiang Shu and replied softly, “Sure.”
Having finished his breakfast, he got up to tidy the tableware and moved it aside, calling the hotel staff to clean up.
The staff was quick, and Pei Wang closed the door, walking over to the window to pull the curtains.
The fabric of the curtains was drawn partially, dimming the room’s light.
Pei Wang held the other half of the curtain and looked back at Jiang Shu, who was sitting on the sofa downloading the game on her phone, and asked, “Do you want me to close the curtains?”
Jiang Shu looked up in alarm, “No, no.”
The atmosphere created by complete darkness would be too intense.
She found an excuse to push back, saying, “If the Program Team is covered, we won’t be able to record.”
Pei Wang chuckled again, agreeing with a simple “Alright,” before sitting down on the sofa. He watched as the little girl busily finished downloading the game, then turned on the projector to cast the phone screen.
Then she lifted her head and pressed her phone into his palm, calling out, “Brother.”
The little girl softened her voice, calling him sweetly and obediently, “Can you help me play, Brother?”
