The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 34
This was a small landslide, occurring above the Sea Viewing Point, which affected the nearby mountains, causing tremors and resulting in a minor debris flow.
The good news was that the protective net ultimately served its purpose, blocking most of the falling rocks and cushioning their descent.
Jiang Shu scrambled up in a panic. She saw mud mixed with blood flowing on the ground, only to be washed clean by the rain shortly after.
She rushed to Pei Wang’s side, careful not to move him too forcefully. She gently pushed his arm and called out with a trembling voice, “Pei Wang—”
Pei Wang grasped her fingers and turned slightly to sit up.
Jiang Shu quickly supported him, asking, “Are you okay?”
The back of Pei Wang’s shirt was nearly torn apart, and blood was seeping profusely from his back.
Jiang Shu could not bear to look any longer; she helped Pei Wang to his feet. “Let’s go over there.”
She guided him to a place away from the landslide, wanting to tend to his injuries, but there was nothing nearby. She wished to call for an ambulance, but her phone was also not with her.
The risks of descending the mountain in such rain were too great, and she had no way to know how serious Pei Wang’s condition was; recklessly moving could lead to more severe consequences.
Jiang Shu squatted beside Pei Wang, trying to shield him from the rain, but the raindrops were relentless.
She bit her lip and then caught sight of a shadow not far away. After a brief moment of realization, she exclaimed, “Camera Brother?”
Jiang Shu hurriedly ran up again. Camera Brother was sitting on the ground, looking somewhat pained. She reached out to help him. “What happened? Can you stand?”
Camera Brother used her support to stand on one leg, inhaling sharply. “Ouch, I’m fine, just sprained my leg.”
He anxiously looked at the camera beneath him. “I need to take this; it’s very expensive.”
Jiang Shu couldn’t handle both helping him and retrieving the camera at the same time, so she first helped Camera Brother to a safer spot before going back to grab the camera.
The heavy rain showed no signs of stopping. Jiang Shu squatted next to Pei Wang and quietly asked, “Are you cold?”
Camera Brother squeezed in beside Pei Wang. “I’m cold.”
He shivered as he waved his hand to Jiang Shu. “Cuddle up a little; it’ll be better.”
Jiang Shu moved closer to Pei Wang, but she still felt the wind and rain quickly draining her body heat. Just before she lost consciousness, she saw rescuers rushing towards them.
Jiang Shu woke up in a hospital bed.
A staff member from the Program Team stood by her side. Upon noticing she was awake, he eagerly leaned in. “Is there anywhere you feel uncomfortable?”
He handed her a disposable paper cup. “Would you like some water?”
Jiang Shu sat up on the bed, accepted the cup, and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Her throat felt a bit hoarse; she took a sip of warm water and then turned her head to take in her surroundings.
Not seeing anyone else, she nervously asked, “Where are Pei Wang and Camera Brother?”
The staff member explained, “They’re in the next room.”
Jiang Shu pulled back the covers and jumped out of bed. “I want to check on them.”
The staff member led her to the adjacent room.
Camera Brother lay in his hospital bed with one leg in a cast, suspended in the air, while Pei Wang was shirtless, bandages wrapped around him multiple times.
Both of them had not sustained severe injuries—Pei Wang had extensive scrapes on his back, and Camera Brother had broken his leg while trying to save the camera.
Jiang Shu walked to Pei Wang’s bedside. She moved a chair closer and bowed her head, quietly calling out, “Brother.”
Pei Wang reached out to her, gently asking, “What’s wrong?”
He stroked Jiang Shu’s hair. “Are you scared?”
Jiang Shu had initially not felt fear. From the first realization of the landslide to escaping with her life and then waking up in the hospital, she hadn’t had time to feel afraid.
Now, with Pei Wang’s question, the anxiety suddenly overwhelmed her. Jiang Shu sniffed back tears, her eyes reddening, and called out again, “Pei Wang.”
She leaned against the side of the bed, resting her chin on her hand, and softly apologized, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s all my fault for wanting to go over there to take a look; otherwise—”
“There’s no ‘otherwise.’” Pei Wang pressed down on Jiang Shu’s fingertips. “Don’t blame yourself for coincidences.”
Pei Wang withdrew his hand and shook his head. “Besides, the Program Team had set the check-in point there; we would have had to go there sooner or later.”
Jiang Shu pressed her lips together.
She still felt that this was her fault, that even if it were a coincidence, it was caused by her actions.Jiang Shu had just lifted her head, ready to speak, when she suddenly heard a knock on the door, and then the Director, along with other guests, rushed in with great urgency.
He first made a gesture of apology, saying, “Sorry, sorry, we didn’t expect something like this to happen either.”
The Director informed them about the outcome of the situation: “This is due to the negligence of the Scenic Management Bureau, who failed to promptly recognize the geological changes in the mountains. They will come to discuss compensation with you tomorrow.”
Jiang Shu turned her head to look.
The Director bent down and cautiously asked, “Are you satisfied with this handling?”
He knew that both Pei Wang and Jiang Shu weren’t lacking in money, and he was concerned that they might disagree with this resolution.
Pei Wang’s gaze swept over. He smiled slightly, but his expression was cold as he stated, “I don’t need to discuss compensation.”
It was rare for him not to inquire about Jiang Shu; instead, he said directly, “Rather than a paltry compensation, I’d prefer they punish the negligent personnel.”
Pei Wang glanced at the Director, his tone softening a bit: “Can I expect results within a week?”
He spoke kindly and deliberately, “If I can’t get results, I will bypass the Program Team and communicate directly with the Bureau.”
The Director detected the threat in Pei Wang’s words but felt relieved.
This was not the worst response they had anticipated; Pei Wang was still being reasonable and did not make things difficult for the crew due to the landslide.
He hurriedly nodded, “That’s fine, that’s fine.”
There were chairs in the room, but the Director felt embarrassed to sit down. He fumbled with the microphone beside him, turned the button on and off, then cautiously asked, “Will you participate in tomorrow’s recording?”
“If you do participate,” he began to navigate the program flow, “your remaining actual amount is thirty-two yuan, ranking first among all guests. As a reward, you will receive three thousand yuan in travel funds tomorrow.”
The Director paused and added, “Tomorrow will truly be just for tourism.”
This was the first time the Program Team had been so generous.
However, Jiang Shu glanced at Pei Wang and shook her head slightly, “We won’t participate.”
The Director appeared a bit disappointed but not surprised: “Okay.”
He hesitated for a moment and then said, “The doctor said that you all are fine, so no hospitalization was ordered. You’re just resting in the ward temporarily.”
The Director chuckled awkwardly, “I’ve booked you a hotel; you see—”
Pei Wang nodded gently, “That’s fine.”
The Director breathed a sigh of relief. He felt that Pei Wang and Jiang Shu seemed reasonably agreeable and tentatively asked, “So, will you stay in the hotel tomorrow? Can I film your day for the program?”
Jiang Shu didn’t mind.
But recording involved both of them, and she felt a sense of guilt towards Pei Wang, so his attitude would definitely take precedence.
Jiang Shu instinctively turned her head to look at Pei Wang, waiting for his answer.
The girl’s eyes were still red, giving her a pitiful appearance. However, her gaze was straightforward, almost as if her face was saying “I’m fine with anything” and “I’ll listen to whatever you say.”
Like a cat sprawled out, offering its belly to its owner for anything.
Pei Wang chuckled.
The girl was evidently too naive and didn’t realize that such guilt could become a leverage for bad people.
He raised his hand and gently rubbed away a long-standing tear from the corner of Jiang Shu’s eye with his fingertip.
Pei Wang softly replied, “That’s fine.”
The Director immediately relaxed and smiled. He had the other staff members escort Camera Brother out while he took Jiang Shu and Pei Wang to the hotel.
They were booked in the best hotel in Qing City. The Director obtained their room keys, led them to the door, and then suddenly remembered: “Oh, right.”
He handed both Jiang Shu and Pei Wang their phones and said, “The landslide incident has trended online; fans have been asking about the two of you.”
The Director inquired, “Could the two of you go live for a bit to reassure your fans?”
