The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 32
When Jiang Shu woke up, it was the hottest part of the day.
She raised her hand to shield her eyes, squinting as she sat up, adjusting before moving her hand away.
Jiang Shu was obviously still a bit dazed. She stared at Pei Wang for a moment, her voice carrying a hint of uncertainty: “Pei Wang?”
After thinking for a while, she realized why Pei Wang was beside her. She brushed her hair back with her hand and leaned over to ask the Camera Brother beside her, “What time is it?”
The Camera Brother held up two fingers.
Jiang Shu straightened up, stretched, and looked at Pei Wang: “Shall we head out?” She noticed he was holding something and leaned in closer, asking, “What’s this?”
It was a folded piece of paper, with some colors faintly visible.
After a careful look, Jiang Shu stood up disappointed: “It’s a flyer.”
Pei Wang also stood up, unfolding the paper and holding it up in front of Jiang Shu, correcting her: “It’s a paper fan.”
Pei Wang gently shook the fan, closed it back up, and then, holding the handle, used the tip of the fan to poke Jiang Shu’s hand lightly, asking in a low voice: “Do you want it to become Jiang Shu’s fan?”
Of course, Jiang Shu wanted it.
Although it was already past noon, the weather had grown even hotter. The afternoon had brought no breeze, and the air was sticky and humid.
Jiang Shu grasped the tip of the folded fan and pulled it into her palm with a bit of force. She then opened the fan, held it between her and Pei Wang, and waved it vigorously a few times: “Let’s fan together!”
The Camera Brother couldn’t help but chuckle from behind.
Pei Wang also smiled slightly; he raised his hand to grasp the edge of the fan and pushed it back toward Jiang Shu: “Thank you, Shu Shu.”
He shook his head: “But this fan is too small.”
It was too hot, and he and Jiang Shu were not sitting very close to each other; the pitiful fan struggled to create a breeze that could cool either of them.
Jiang Shu drooped her eyelids and elongated her tone: “I know that—”
She hugged the fan to her chest, stopping her waving, and instead began to look around.
Then she quickly ceased her inspection and tugged at Pei Wang’s shirt: “Wait a moment.”
Jiang Shu turned and ran toward someone in a pink mascot costume. She said something to the mascot and then felt around its pocket, pulling out a flyer.
She returned to Pei Wang and handed the flyer to him: “You can fold another paper fan.”
Jiang Shu tilted her head to look at Pei Wang: “That way we’ll each have one!”
The amusement park was very close to the subway entrance. By the time Pei Wang finished folding the paper fan, they had already reached the entrance.
At the subway entrance knelt an elderly man with gray hair, alongside him lay another old man wrapped in burlap. In front of them was a piece of paper with some writing on it—
“Old partner is seriously ill, unable to afford treatment, begging kind-hearted people for some medical fees.” Jiang Shu instinctively read it out loud.
She turned to Pei Wang, and before she could speak, the kneeling old man suddenly looked up and grabbed her pant leg.
With his other hand, he lifted an iron bowl from the ground, trembling as he raised it before Jiang Shu, stammering, “Kind-hearted person, please help—”
Jiang Shu was taken aback; it was her first time encountering such a situation. She instinctively reached out to hand over the twenty yuan in her pocket, but just as her fingertips brushed against the edge of the bill, she hesitated and stopped.
This wasn’t just her money; it belonged to both her and Pei Wang.
She pursed her lips slightly: “I’m sorry, grandpa, I have no money.”
The old man nodded, appearing to have seen much in his time. Then he felt around his neck and pulled out a tag with a QR Code: “If you don’t have cash, you can scan this.”
Jiang Shu was stunned. She moved her lips, thinking of how to explain their current situation to the old man, but Pei Wang lifted the fan and gently rested it on her shoulder.
He nudged her back a little with the fan and then squatted down in front of the old man: “I see what you wrote, your partner is sick, and you can’t afford treatment, right?”
Pei Wang pointed in a direction with the tip of the fan: “There’s a hospital over there. If you take your partner there, I’ll help you pay for the medical fees.”
His voice remained gentle as ever, just slightly edged with a sharper tone.
The old man hesitated for a moment, then looked up at Pei Wang and let out a harsh “Puh,” stuffing the QR Code back into his clothes: “If you’re not giving, then don’t act rich in front of your girlfriend.”
He released the hem of Jiang Shu’s clothes and grumbled: “I thought I had found a wealthy person.”
The old man’s voice was low, and Jiang Shu didn’t hear him.
She only saw the old man release her pant leg, and then Pei Wang led her onto the escalator.Jiang Shu was a bit dazed: “Do they not want to go to the hospital?”
She turned her head to look at Pei Wang, her ponytail swaying in her mind: “Isn’t it better to go to the hospital and help them cover the medical fees?”
Pei Wang rested his hand on the escalator: “Because his partner is not ill.”
Jiang Shu suddenly realized: “He’s scamming for money?” Her eyes widened: “Using my sympathy?”
She pouted unhappily: “How can they do this? What if no one dares to believe in such pleas in the future—”
Pei Wang shook his head: “He’s exploiting my desire for performance.”
Jiang Shu blinked, tilting her head to look at him, a bit confused: “What?”
Pei Wang didn’t explain further; he stepped off the escalator and walked toward the ticket machine: “Let’s buy tickets.”
It was summer vacation and the weekend, so the subway was quite crowded, with a long line at the entrance.
However, most people were entering by scanning codes, so there weren’t many people in front of the ticket machines.
Pei Wang bought tickets, handed one to Jiang Shu, and then led her into the station.
This side was a large transfer station, and Jiang Shu stared at the directional signs for a while. Just as she reached the stairs indicated, she heard the announcement for the arriving train.
Jiang Shu panicked: “Hurry!”
She grabbed Pei Wang’s hand and pulled him down the stairs, rushing into the carriage.
The sound indicating the closing of the doors followed, and they quickly shut behind them.
The number of people inside the carriage was even greater than at the entrance. Once the doors closed, all those who had made way for the entrance crowded in, and Jiang Shu was forced to step back two paces, leaning against Pei Wang.
The mingled scents of sweat and perfume formed a strange odor. Jiang Shu wrinkled her nose, covering her mouth and nose, when she suddenly felt someone gently tap her shoulder. Then Pei Wang squeezed her shoulder and switched positions with her.
She stood in the corner between the seats and the door, with Pei Wang facing away from her, shielding her in front.
This was truly a touching moment for a good brother!
Jiang Shu was still thinking about this as she exited the subway. She tugged at Pei Wang’s sleeve: “Should I send you a banner when I get back?”
Pei Wang turned his head to look at her, his voice filled with a hint of confusion: “Hmm?”
Jiang Shu gestured to him: “A triangular one, red base with yellow tassels, with words written on top—”
She turned to Pei Wang, smiling, her brows and eyes curving in a crescent shape: “World’s best brother.”
Pei Wang lowered his head and chuckled softly.
“Okay,” he replied gently: “Then I’ll need to set up a special collection room to hang this banner, and whenever someone comes over, I can take them to see it.”
“But the collection room can’t only have one,” Pei Wang extended his hand slightly, lowering his brows, and made a knightly gesture: “Little Princess, you have to send me a few more.”
