Jiang Shu felt uneasy.

She searched the room and found a small stool under the bed. She moved it to the door and sat on it, watching Pei Wang prepare the fish.

Pei Wang handled the fish with remarkable skill, leaving Jiang Shu in awe. “You really know how to cook?”

Pei Wang replied, “Mm.”

There were some basic spices in the kitchen. He turned on the stove and heated the oil. “Since my mother is often away from home, I have learned to cook a little.”

Jiang Shu leaned forward, curious. “Away from home?”

This mother was obviously Pei Wang’s adoptive mother, and she asked curiously, “What does your mother do?”

“Cellist.” The oil sizzled in the pan as Pei Wang added the fish, fried it until both sides were cooked, and then began to season and thicken the sauce. “You can check her information.”

Jiang Shu supported her chin with her hand.

She felt a hint of pride in Pei Wang’s tone, but it was unclear.

She tilted her head and thought for a moment, then slowed her voice, wanting to encourage Pei Wang to share more. “But our phones were confiscated.”

Jiang Shu blinked her eyes. “I can’t check now.”

Pei Wang looked at her.

His eyelashes lowered slightly as his gaze swept over Jiang Shu, then he covered the pot with a lid and said noncommittally, “You can check later.”

The aroma of the fish wafted through the air as Pei Wang lit another burner, boiled water, and turned to prepare the vegetables.

Jiang Shu moved her stool to a new angle and rested her head on her hand as she watched him wash and chop the vegetables.

Before meeting Pei Wang, she had often speculated about his situation. Maybe he had gone to an orphanage, maybe he had been kidnapped, or maybe he had been adopted… But regardless of the possibility, she did not dare to think too deeply.

She was afraid that after Pei Wang disappeared, his life would turn out badly, and she did not want to imagine that the happy life she imagined was actually built on the suffering of others.

After seeing Pei Wang for the first time at the Jiang family, she secretly searched for his information.

Pei Wang’s information was easy to find. He had recently been awarded the title of “Outstanding Entrepreneur” in Jing City, had been interviewed by the official media, and his journey in founding Jinghua Corporation had been reported.

Jinghua was founded by him and his classmates during high school. Starting as a game company, they accumulated significant initial capital through a Gacha-style development game, and then ventured into chip technology. Recently, they had even begun to expand into the medical field.

Perhaps to encourage students to pursue entrepreneurship, the report used a photo of Pei Wang from his college days.

She still remembered the photo from the report.

Just twenty years old, Pei Wang faced the camera, wearing a plush sweater, sitting upright, looking refined and gentle.

Back then, she thought that Pei Wang must have found a good adoptive family, but he kept his family information very private, and she couldn’t find any details about his adoptive parents.

Now, Pei Wang had revealed a little bit to her–

Jiang Shu touched her earpiece and asked, “Director, will we get our phones back tonight?”

Once they entered the house, there were no more cameramen following them, but to prevent any unforeseen incidents, the program team surely had someone watching behind the scenes.

The director’s voice crackled in her earpiece, slightly distorted. “Dream on.”

Jiang Shu lowered her hand in disappointment.

She hugged her knees and fiddled with her clothes when she heard a slight noise. Pei Wang pulled out a movable board from under the marble countertop.

The movable board slid to the far end, and the steel frame underneath clattered as it pressed firmly against the cabinet door, securing the movable board in place.Jiang Shu’s eyes widened.

She moved the small stool over to the moving board, touched the surface of the board a few times, and immediately cast aside her disappointment. She looked up at Pei Wang, her spirits high, and asked him excitedly, “How did you find this?”

Pei Wang placed the prepared dishes on the board and handed her a pair of chopsticks, explaining, “I found it when I was washing the vegetables.

Intrigued, Jiang Shu ran her fingers over the board before accepting the chopsticks. Raising her voice, she slowly said, “Oh,” before lowering her head to begin eating.

The food tasted better than she had imagined. Jiang Shu quickly finished her portion, pushed the bowl aside, and leaned over the movable board to watch Pei Wang.

Pei Wang took a few more bites before meeting her gaze, then paused with his chopsticks and asked helplessly, “What’s wrong?”

Jiang Shu tilted her head and smiled at him, “Who’s going to wash the dishes?”

Pei Wang sighed, “I’ll do it.”

He hadn’t even considered letting Jiang Shu do it. The Jiang family had a housekeeper, so she certainly wouldn’t be doing any chores. Asking Jiang Shu to wash the dishes would probably take more effort than if he did it himself.

Jiang Shu chuckled, “Oh dear, that’s so embarrassing.”

Even as she said this, she showed no hesitation. She got up from the stool and walked into the bedroom.

They had brought their suitcases to the program team, and in the morning the staff had taken those suitcases away to confiscate anything forbidden in them. Later that evening, they had sent the suitcases back to her room.

Jiang Shu found her clothes and bath towel in her suitcase, then hugged them as she approached the bathroom door. “I’m going to take a shower now!”

Once inside the bathroom, she put down her pajamas and towel, then opened the door again, suddenly remembering something. Poking her head out from behind the door, she smiled at Pei Wang and said, “Thank you, big brother!”

After saying that, she quickly pulled her head back in and closed the door with a “bang.

Pei Wang paused for a moment, his eyebrows furrowed. He finished the last bit of food, put down his chopsticks, cleaned the bowls and chopsticks, and put them in the sink.

The system in his head was in a frenzy: “Aren’t you angry? The evil female lead is taking advantage of you at work and even provoking you!”

“Provoking?” Pei Wang turned on the faucet, the sound of the water drowning out his voice. “Are you talking about her thanking me?”

Pei Wang calmly repeated, “I think you should upgrade your system.”

The dishes they used were not many, and while Pei Wang was washing the bowls and plates, the sound of water from the bathroom had not yet stopped.

He picked up the moving board and moved the stool to sit by the window with his back to the bathroom.

The system continued to argue in his mind: “My system is very reliable.”

Pei Wang dropped his eyes dismissively, “Mm.”

The system angrily insisted, “I will not make a wrong decision!”

Pei Wang found it somewhat boring. He turned his head away, no longer wanting to deal with the system.

The electronically synthesized voice trembled, about to say something more, when suddenly the sound of a door opening came from the bathroom. Jiang Shu pushed the door open and stuck her head out.

The bedroom door was not closed and Pei Wang was not on the bed.

Jiang Shu blinked and turned to look in the opposite direction.

Pei Wang was in the kitchen, sitting on the small stool with his back to her.

Jiang Shu unconsciously let out a sigh of relief; she hadn’t felt anything before, but after taking a shower, she suddenly realized the awkwardness.

She and Pei Wang were not biological siblings, and for a man to see her in her pajamas after bathing and then share the same room with her was indeed a bit strange.

Fortunately, Pei Wang was sitting in the kitchen with his back to her.

Jiang Shu pushed open the door and quickly ran into the bedroom, chose a bed, and quickly wrapped herself in the blanket.

Her movements were not small and Pei Wang had obviously heard her, but he didn’t turn around. He just reminded her, “There’s a soundproof curtain by the bed. Have you seen it?”

Surprised, Jiang Shu sat up in bed and searched around the edge of the bed for a moment, then pulled out a soundproof curtain from a hidden compartment.

The curtain was grayish-brown, large and heavy, and when she pulled it open, it almost completely covered the bed, leaving no gap.

Jiang Shu lay back on the bed with relief and said, “I saw it.

She replied to Pei Wang, “I pulled the curtain properly.

Pei Wang replied in acknowledgement, and she heard footsteps approaching. It was Pei Wang coming over, followed by the sound of a suitcase lock opening, and then a rustling sound as if he was looking for clothes.

The sound quickly stopped, followed by very light footsteps, as if Pei Wang was walking towards the bathroom. Then, after the sound of a door closing, the sound of water suddenly began.

Imagination really is a strange thing; even though there was only the sound of water, her mind instinctively analyzed it, trying to extract more detailed information.

He was taking a shower, he was applying shower gel.

Jiang Shu covered her head with the blanket.

What a terrible quality soundproof curtain! She would definitely have to file a complaint against this brand when she got back.

Fortunately, while she was taking a shower, Pei Wang was washing the dishes.

Luckily, the sound of the water didn’t last too long. Soon, Pei Wang walked out of the bathroom, followed by the sound of the soundproof curtain being pulled.

Pei Wang was obviously a good roommate; as soon as he pulled up the soundproof curtain, there was hardly any noise coming from his side. Jiang Shu rolled over on the bed and tentatively called out, “Pei Wang?”

Pei Wang slowly replied, “What is it?”

Jiang Shu kicked the blanket and rolled onto it and said, “Aren’t you bored?”

Pei Wang replied calmly, “It’s okay.”

Jiang Shu didn’t believe him, “How can that be?”

She revealed her intention, “Let’s talk!”

On the other side of the room, there was silence for a while, then a very soft rustling sound could be heard, as if Pei Wang had sat up.

“Okay,” he admitted, “What do you want to talk about?”

“Anything,” Jiang Shu replied cheerfully. She thought for a moment, “Mom mentioned me to you, so…”

She suddenly became nervous, “How much do you know about my parents and me?

Do you know that I was adopted by Father Jiang and Mother Jiang?
