Jiang Shu took the piece of paper and clenched it in her palm.

Pei Wang’s movements were smooth and unhurried. Jiang Shu frowned and looked at Pei Wang suspiciously, “Did you already suspect there would be information in the bag?”

Pei Wang furrowed his brows slightly, tied the open bag back up, and stood up while holding it, “Don’t overthink it.”

He tilted his head to look at Jiang Shu, “I don’t have a hobby of watching people embarrass themselves.”

Jiang Shu gazed at him with skepticism.

Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly heard a faint “ding,” followed by an electronic synthesized voice ringing in her mind: “Host successfully slapped the face of the Vicious Supporting Female Character Jiang Shu, earning ten points.”

Jiang Shu: “?”

Pei Wang had actually discovered this earlier and intentionally didn’t tell her, just to watch her make a fool of herself?

With his upright demeanor, who would have thought he was so less than straightforward? Slapping faces without making it obvious!

“Anyway, I’m not going to ask those uncles anymore,” Jiang Shu said angrily, turning her head away. “You can go on your own.”

She absolutely wouldn’t look at those uncles again! The Vicious Supporting Female Character was going to give up today!

Pei Wang didn’t mind going alone; he truly wanted a moment to himself.

Pei Wang took the card and delivery slip from Jiang Shu, grabbed the bag, and walked towards the well by himself.

He deliberately slowed his pace, took off the ear microphone, and quietly mused, “Why did the face-slapping task suddenly finish?”

This wasn’t the first time; it had happened before when he met Pei Songyu, where the system had announced the completion of a task.

At that time, he thought the system had malfunctioned, so he didn’t investigate further. It seemed now that it had its own peculiar logic.

The electronic voice crackled in his mind a moment before forming into the system’s voice: “Because the face-slapping expectation value has been reached.”

The synthesized voice explained: “You don’t necessarily have to slap someone; as long as the Vicious Supporting Female Character’s plot doesn’t succeed, it is considered as completing the face-slapping.”

Pei Wang frowned: “Plot?”

“Yes,” the system confirmed. “The first time was when her scheme to frame you by causing herself to fall was discovered by the Jiang Family’s parents; this time it’s her attempt to draw attention that was thwarted.”

The electronic voice boasted: “Isn’t my judgment skill amazing?”

The system deliberately waited for a moment, wanting to hear praise from the host, but after a while, all it heard was a low chuckle, followed by Pei Wang’s cold and calm voice: “Your intelligent system could use an upgrade.”

Pei Wang had already reached the well. The group he had seen earlier still sat in their original spots. He walked over to the edge, near the uncle, and asked quietly, “Excuse me, where does Wang Dazhuang live?”

The uncle turned to glance at him, chuckling: “Dazhuang? Who names their child Dazhuang these days? You must be mistaken?”

Pei Wang smiled warmly, “That’s possible.” He pulled out the order and presented it to the uncle, “But it is indeed written like this on the order.”

The recipient’s name could be randomly chosen, but the phone number could not.

Pei Wang lowered his brow, pointing at the phone number printed at the bottom of the order: “Could you tell me if you recognize this number?”

The number was clearly assigned by the Program Team—an easy-to-read sequence of six digits, very recognizable. The uncle glanced at the number and laughed, “That’s not that kid Jingyao?”

He waved the paper aside and pointed towards the third house in a row, “He lives there.”

Pei Wang thanked him gently, carrying the bag to the front of that house, and knocked lightly on the door.

The door was quickly opened, and the homeowner nearly dashed to the entrance: “I’m coming, I’m coming!”

He threw the door open and stretched out his hand, “My snacks!”

It was a very young boy, tall and thin, with hair cut very short, almost a buzz cut.

Pei Wang didn’t hand over the bag immediately; he even hid it slightly behind him, then lowered his head slightly, confirming in a manner that resembled a question, “Dazhuang?”

The boy scratched his head awkwardly: “Ah, yes, that’s me.”

When the Program Team had asked him to come up with a delivery name, he had just tossed that one out without a second thought. He hadn’t thought there was anything wrong with the name until now, hearing it pronounced so casually.

He unconsciously shifted back a bit, only extending his hand to urge, “Give it to me.”

Only then did Pei Wang hand over the bag.

As he retracted his hand to leave, the boy called out to him: “Wait.”

Wang Jingyao dropped the bag on the ground and pulled out a stamp from his pants pocket: “I’m the one stamping this points voucher.”

Pei Wang raised his eyebrows slightly at him and then handed over the card from his pocket.

Wang Jingyao took the card, stamping while rambling, “The name really wasn’t intentional on my part.”

He imagined the situation—the person in front of him, dressed in a shirt and long pants, asking everyone in the village where he lived using the made-up name, and embarrassment washed over him.Wang Jingyao finished stamping the card and handed it over, apologizing, “Sorry about that.”

“No problem,” Pei Wang replied. “I don’t mind these things; it’s just that the other person is a bit concerned.”

He tucked the card back into his pocket, nodded gently to Wang Jingyao, then turned to look for Jiang Shu.

Jiang Shu was still in her original position, but she had changed from standing to squatting, with one hand supporting her chin and the other poking at the ground, looking quite bored as she waited.

Pei Wang called out to her, “Jiang Shu.”

Jiang Shu immediately raised her head, stood up, glanced at his empty hands, then turned away from him.

He called her name again, “Jiang Shu.”

Pei Wang extended his hand, lowering his voice slightly, “Do you want me to carry the things?”

Jiang Shu remained turned away from him, only raising the hand that was holding the items slightly back.

The Jiang Family was overly protective; she still had the mindset of a child.

Pei Wang couldn’t help but chuckle. He took the bag and casually tucked the stamped card into Jiang Shu’s hand, saying, “We got the points.”

He then asked gently, “Do you want to go to the Small Supermarket to pick a gift?”

She certainly did not; the Vicious Supporting Female Character was going to hold her ground.

Jiang Shu shifted her body slightly and turned her back to Pei Wang.

Pei Wang wasn’t offended. He pulled out the ten yuan bill from the plastic bag and advised, “Then I’m off.”

Jiang Shu heard some rustling behind her, and then Pei Wang walked past her, heading toward the center of the village.

She leaned forward to take a look, but before she could see more than a few glimpses, the director’s voice sounded in her earpiece: “The task time is about to end. Please gather at the village entrance quickly to tally the points earned.”

He elongated his tone, “There’s a ten-minute countdown, don’t miss it.”

The eastern edge of the village was almost the farthest from the entrance, and Jiang Shu had no time to think further as she hurried to the village entrance.

When she arrived, the other groups of participants were already there, and the director was calculating Lin Hui and Wang Siyuan’s points.

“Two points,” the director noted as he marked their points voucher and gestured for the next group to come forward.

The next group was Ren Lishu and Qiao Xian. They submitted two points vouchers but only received one point.

Ren Lishu quietly complained, “The time for the task just ended, and the tasks in the village are hidden so well.”

The director said nothing as he waved at Yu Zhen and Qu Mei, only to be shocked when he noticed they hadn’t moved, gasping, “You guys can’t still be at zero points, right?”

Qu Mei didn’t move, while Yu Zhen smirked, “Almost zero points.”

She stepped forward to the director and handed over a points voucher.

Jiang Shu also moved next to the director.

All the points vouchers for their group were in her hands, and Jiang Shu took the cards out from her pocket, reaching to hand them to the director.

But the director pressed down on her hand.

He smiled and shook his head, “You can only tally the points when all members of the group are present.”

The director turned to ask the staff, “How many minutes are left?”

The staff member replied loudly, “Two minutes remaining.”

The director smiled again, sitting on a small stool and idly waving a fan of unknown origin, “Oh no, I hope Pei Wang doesn’t miss it.”

“Points not tallied in time will not count,” he said exaggeratedly. “I see you have three vouchers; they wouldn’t all become void, would they?”

He shook the fan vigorously, dragging out his tone, and exclaimed loudly, “That would be—so unfortunate!”

“Not unfortunate.”

Pei Wang’s voice suddenly rang out. He didn’t know when he had arrived at the tallying point, but he had lowered his brow as he took the points vouchers from Jiang Shu’s hand and pushed them in front of the director.

He asked calmly and composed, “Can we tally up now, director?”

Author’s note:

Darn it, I didn’t write to the part I most wanted to write about; I’m so slow.
