The Fake Daughter Want to Be Villainess - Chapter 14
Jiang Shu stared at the shop owner for a moment, pondering as a normal guest would. After a moment of hesitation, she replied, “Isn’t it because I have no money?”
The owner glanced at her impatiently, “What are you looking at if you have no money? Am I doing charity here? Giving you things for free?”
He waved her away like shooing away a fly, “Go on, get lost!”
Jiang Shu took a small step back, “I’m not leaving.” She leaned against the doorframe and smiled at the shop owner, “I’m just going to stay here.”
The owner glared at her again, “You’re so annoying!”
He slammed his phone down heavily, stared at Jiang Shu for a long while, and then bent over to pull out a large bag from the ground. “You look a bit pitiful. How about this: if you help me deliver this bag to Old Man Wang’s house, I’ll let you pick something from the shop to take with you, sound good?”
Jiang Shu blinked, “Pick something?”
The reward was different from what she had imagined, and Jiang Shu hesitated, “Aren’t there any point vouchers?”
The shop owner shot her an unhappy glance, pulled a blue card from his pocket, and slapped it down hard on the freezer, “Who do you think you’re looking down on?”
“It’s as if no one has vouchers!” He pushed the card forward and boasted, “This is a hidden task, and it has more rewards than others.”
Jiang Shu reached out, carefully took the card, and slowly placed it in her pocket before slowly replying, “Oh.”
She didn’t care about the extra reward. She and Pei Wang had exploited the Program Team’s loophole, so they had money to buy things.
Jiang Shu walked over to the bag and tried to lift it, but quickly let go.
She couldn’t tell what was inside the bag; it didn’t seem large, but it was almost as heavy as the previous basket of fish.
Although Pei Wang had already carried several bags,—
But the Vicious Supporting Female Character wouldn’t be considerate of him!
Jiang Shu straightened up, stared at the bag thoughtfully for a moment, and then quickly turned her head to Pei Wang, “Why don’t you come over and take the initiative to carry something?”
She frowned and accused him, “Do I have to call you over?”
Pei Wang turned his head slightly, his gaze lightly falling on her. Then he walked over and bent down to pick up the bag.
Jiang Shu: “…”
Jiang Shu felt anxious.
What if she refused? What if she slapped him in the face? Why did he carry whatever he was given? Was Pei Wang someone who wouldn’t retaliate or was he planning to save up for a big move?
She anxiously glanced at the several bags Pei Wang was carrying.
One bag of fish wasn’t heavy, and another bag of vegetables wasn’t heavy either, but when those bags added up, the weight became quite considerable.
But the Vicious Supporting Female Character wouldn’t be soft-hearted.
Jiang Shu pursed her lips and suddenly stretched out her hand toward Pei Wang, “Give me my things.”
She widened her eyes and said loudly, “I don’t feel safe with you carrying it!”
Pei Wang looked down at her with tilted brows.
The young girl unconsciously clenched her sleeves, her expression showing a bit of nervousness. It was evident she didn’t want to carry the heavy bag. She felt embarrassed to let him carry all of them, but she also couldn’t bring herself to say something soft, so she made up a reason on the spot.Just a kid.
Pei Wang ignored the system beeping in his mind and obediently stretched out his hand to pass her the plastic bag filled with snacks.
Jiang Shu took the bag, and then continued to say angrily, “The vegetables are mine too!”
Pei Wang let out a light laugh, acknowledged her with a sound, and handed over the bag containing the vegetables.
Jiang Shu picked up one bag and stood at the door, peering outside and asking again, “Boss, where does Old Man Wang live?”
The owner had picked up his phone again, distractedly glanced at Jiang Shu, and casually replied, “He lives at the east end of the village.”
He raised his hand, tapping on the screen of his phone, and suddenly a loud, boisterous voice rang out in the room: “Rob the landlord—”
Jiang Shu wanted to ask for more specific directions, but the shop owner remained focused on his phone, ignoring her questions, so she dispiritedly gave up on that thought and turned to Pei Wang, saying, “Let’s go.”
No matter how she asked, the boss wasn’t saying anything. It was clear that the Program Team had set limits, and no matter how many times she asked, she wouldn’t get an answer.
Pei Wang nodded in agreement.
The Small Supermarket was located right in the center of the village, not far from any part of it. They hadn’t walked for long before they reached the east side of the village.
The houses on the east side were much newer than the ones near the old man, appearing to be part of a new planning initiative in the village, even looking identical in design.
Jiang Shu didn’t know which house belonged to Old Man Wang and felt too shy to knock on doors one by one to ask, so she took Pei Wang around for a quick look and then stopped at the easternmost end of the village.
There was a well at the very east end of the village, which was sealed shut, and a line of people wearing straw hats were sitting nearby, chatting loudly about something.
Jiang Shu thought she could ask these uncles if anyone knew Old Man Wang and where he lived.
The uncles were in an intense discussion, speaking in dialect, and Jiang Shu could only vaguely understand a few words, piecing together that they were probably talking about the recent fish sales.
Not wanting to interrupt their conversation, she waited for a moment beside them until there was a lull, and then seized the opportunity to ask, “Excuse me, does anyone know where Old Man Wang lives?”
Everyone fell silent for a moment, then they all turned their heads in unison, looking at her with complex expressions.
“Old Man Wang?” the nearest person guffawed loudly, “Little girl, do you know what our village is called?”
How would she know the name of this village?
Jiang Shu frowned, “What is it called?”
The man pointed to a nearby telephone pole. There was a small sign hanging on it with the words “Wang Family Village” written in Song typeface.
“Everyone in our village has the surname Wang,” the man teased, “Which Old Man Wang are you looking for?”
The uncles erupted in laughter, filling the air with a cheerful atmosphere.
Jiang Shu: “……”
Jiang Shu silently averted her gaze, stayed quiet for two seconds, and then said, “Sorry, I’ll go ask for a specific name, sorry to disturb you.”
She practically dragged Pei Wang away from the well.
She walked until she could no longer see the figures of those people, then stopped.
Jiang Shu exclaimed, “The Program Team is doing this on purpose!”
Pei Wang replied lightly, “Mm.”
Jiang Shu continued to complain, “The Program Team just wants to see us make fools of ourselves!”
Pei Wang’s voice held a hint of a smile, “That’s right.”
“The Program Team—” Jiang Shu lowered her head for a moment, then quickly released Pei Wang’s hand, putting both hands behind her back, and apologized, “I’m sorry.”
Pei Wang set down the things he was holding and adjusted the wrinkles in his sleeve, “It’s okay.”
Jiang Shu watched him, then awkwardly redirected the conversation, “Where are we supposed to find this Old Man Wang’s name?”
“The supermarket owner didn’t want to tell us, and everyone in this village has the surname Wang—”
Then she noticed Pei Wang crouching down, reaching into the large plastic bag he had set on the ground, and pulled out a narrow piece of paper.
Pei Wang explained, “I think this looks like a delivery order, so I wanted to see if there’s any information about distribution.”
He lifted his head and handed the paper to Jiang Shu.In addition to a long list of product information, the buyer’s name was also clearly spray-painted at the very bottom of the paper.
Wang Dazhuang.
