Chapter 95: Pei Qingyan’s Past

Xue Yiran didn’t expect her words to fall on deaf ears; Shen Xun agreed without hesitation.

Pei Qingyan’s eyebrows arched in surprise, seemingly not expecting Shen Xun to agree so readily. After all, humiliating someone like this was something no one would willingly do.

Jiang Shuyan looked at the noble little marquis in red, feeling a strange sensation in her heart. Despite his smile, she sensed a hint of danger.

But that shouldn’t be the case. Everyone knew the little marquis of Changping was a playboy, good for nothing but indulging in pleasures. There was no place in the capital he hadn’t been to, except for the brothels.

She had proposed that condition just to deflate his arrogance, not really expecting a marquis to humble himself and serve a noble lady.

Seven days would be impossible for him, let alone seven hours.

Pei Lingyi gazed at Shen Xun, unexpectedly meeting his deep gaze. She saw a hint of triumph in his eyes.

He was doing this on purpose. In one glance, Pei Lingyi knew Shen Xun’s goal was her.

If Jiang Shuyan hadn’t proposed that condition, he would have found a way to bring the conversation around to her, just to get close.

She didn’t understand what she had done to catch Shen Xun’s attention. Was it at the Gentlemen Gathering?

But Shen Xun was too dangerous, always outside her scope.
To her, he was trouble.

But since trouble had come knocking, she wasn’t afraid. Pei Lingyi was never one to shy away from trouble.

Regardless of his intentions, she would figure them out.

Shen Xun wasn’t simple, especially when it came to her. But if she could use him well, he could be quite useful.

Since he had come to her doorstep, she would have to accept him.

But she still had to put on a show. “Little Marquis Shen, you don’t have to do this. Just ignore what Miss Jiang and my brother said.”

The girl walked out from behind the man, her almond-shaped eyes misty as she gazed at him. Being stared at by such eyes would make any man lose his focus for a moment.

Shen Xun was known for his purity, different from other playboys. He never frequented brothels, and rumors circulated that he preferred men.

Whenever he heard such rumors, he would just smile and ignore them. This had only fueled the gossip, and many assumed he was gay.

Every time he saw him, he couldn’t help but sigh, wondering if heaven was going to destroy the Changping Marquis Mansion. The once-prominent mansion had somehow ended up with Shen Xun as its only heir.

And this person was uneducated and only knew how to indulge in pleasures.

It was bad enough that he was a playboy, but he didn’t even like women, which made the continuation of the family line a problem.

That was the most distressing part.

So Pei Qingyan didn’t mind letting Shen Xun serve his sister, even if his sister was as beautiful as a celestial being.
Shen Xun probably wouldn’t even notice.

Almost everyone in the capital had assumed Shen Xun was gay.

Shen Xun saw the serious girl in front of him and smiled even more. “Miss Pei, don’t worry. Since I want to apologize to you on behalf of Miss Xue, I’ll do it wholeheartedly. Serving as a servant for seven days will be a new experience for me.”

Pei Lingyi knew there was no turning back when Shen Xun was determined to serve her.

Pei Qingyan didn’t want his sister to look troubled, so he pulled her wrist and said to Shen Xun, “Since you’re so willing, I’ll expect you at my mansion. But don’t come during the New Year holidays.”

“After the New Year, when my sister is free, I’ll send someone to inform you. I hope you won’t change your mind.”

“Of course not. I’ll be waiting at my mansion for your message.” Shen Xun smiled innocently, showing no signs of backing down.

Pei Qingyan pulled Pei Lingyi’s hand, ready to head home. He had run into Jiang Shuyan and had a lot of trouble today. If he had known this would happen, he wouldn’t have gone out.

He was preoccupied with his thoughts and didn’t notice Pei Lingyi’s intentions.

“Brother, wait! Did you forget what we came to buy today?”

Pei Qingyan’s steps faltered slightly; he had forgotten about buying apricot cake.

But when he turned around, he saw people he didn’t like, and his lips twitched. “I don’t want to eat apricot cake today. Let’s go home.”

“Wait, Pei Qingyan, where are you taking my sister?”

The woman’s voice wasn’t like that of a typical lady from the capital; it had a masculine boldness.

Pei Qingyan’s eyebrows furrowed; he had forgotten that Jiang Shuyan had invited Jiaojiao to eat pastries.

Could it be…?

When Pei Qingyan turned around, he saw the girl’s evasive eyes. He understood the situation perfectly. Today was supposed to be about Jiang Shuyan’s invitation, but she had said they were here to buy apricot cake for him.

“Jiaojiao, do you want to explain… About Jiang Shuyan?”

Pei Lingyi blinked her big eyes and looked up at her brother, whispering, “I just wanted you and my future sister-in-law to spend more time together.”

Whenever Pei Lingyi did something that made him angry, she would always look like this, and his anger would silently dissipate.

This little troublemaker knew he couldn’t bear to punish her.

Pei Lingyi had never heard about her brother’s romantic affairs, but there were countless women in the capital who admired him.

Even after he returned from the frontier, there were still many noble ladies who wanted to marry him.

But he never mentioned anything about it, except when it came to Miss Jiang, he would always react strongly. At first, she thought it was because of her reputation, but she knew Pei Qingyan wasn’t one to jump to conclusions.

Until she asked her mother, the truth finally came to light.

“Your brother had a very close friend when he was young, not the Xie family boy. But somehow, they lost contact, and I never saw him again.”

Those were her mother’s exact words.

She looked at Jiang Shuyan’s tall figure and thought that if she dressed as a man, she would be a handsome young man.

She always wondered…
