Chapter 61: Her Cat

Luoxu saw that her miss was holding a ball of fur stained with blood, and her heart skipped a beat – it was really Snow Ball.

“Miss should give Snow Ball to me, your clothes are stained red,” she said.

“No,” Pei Lingyi shook her head.
“I don’t know where it’s injured, so it’s better not to move it carelessly.”

At first, when she saw Snow Ball in this state, she was almost beside herself with panic. But seeing that its body was still warm and it was still breathing, she slowly regained her composure.

“Quickly, let’s hurry back to the courtyard, and you go call the imperial physician from another courtyard over.”

But although she had regained her composure, the little creature in her arms couldn’t wait any longer. She was afraid that if she was one second late, this life would disappear from her arms.

Luoxu naturally knew the importance of Snow Ball to Pei Lingyi. Now, she quickly moved her feet and hurried to call the physician.

However, a figure was walking towards them from a distance.

“Layan? Why are you here?” Luoxu was startled, because Layan was now a crying mess.
She saw Pei Lingyi and quickly approached her, saying, “Wuhu… Miss, I just got back tonight and couldn’t find Snow Ball anywhere. I thought it was just playing around, but it didn’t come back after a while, and that’s when I realized something was wrong.”

“I asked the palace guards on duty tonight, and they said Snow Ball was taken away by the eldest miss of the Xue family because she thought it was cute. Everyone was called to the front of the Changing Clothes Hall tonight, and I didn’t dare go, afraid of ruining your plan.”

“Wuhu… and then… someone said Snow Ball was thrown away by the lake, so I followed the trail here… Wuhu.” Layan cried hard but still explained the situation clearly.

Xue Baohua!
She didn’t think she had such a cruel heart, not even sparing a cat.
Pei Lingyi’s expression turned cold, and her eyes darkened.

Luoxu saw that her miss was really angry and knew that she wouldn’t let it go. Her expression turned stern, and her tone lost its usual gentleness. However, she still calmly instructed, “Go call the physician and discreetly inform the crown prince about this.”

Luoxu nodded quickly and pulled Layan to run ahead. Although Layan had stopped crying, she told Luoxu, “I’ll go call the physician, you go to the crown prince.”

Layan knew she wasn’t as mature as Luoxu. If she messed up when facing the crown prince, it wouldn’t just be a matter of her miss being disappointed; she might as well hang herself.

Luoxu saw that Layan had calmed down and didn’t stop her. “Alright, I’ll go first.”

Pei Lingyi felt that the creature in her arms was getting weaker and weaker. She wanted to hurry, but she didn’t dare run too fast, afraid of accidentally hurting Snow Ball.

She could only walk and say, “Be good, you’ll be fine, you’ll definitely be fine… Don’t you like eating osmanthus cake? When you’re better, I’ll make a whole plate for you, okay?” As she spoke, she didn’t even realize when she started crying.

Tears like pearls dropped one by one onto the snow-white raccoon dog’s fur, which was now dirty and gray.

Xiao Huaice only felt a hazy sense of someone calling out to him, and he unconsciously made a weak sound: “Meow…”

“Be good, you can understand me, right? So you have to get better…” Pei Lingyi looked at Snow Ball in her arms, who was so injured that he couldn’t even open his eyes, but still responded to her unconsciously, telling her not to worry.

In that instant, Pei Lingyi wished she could skin and bone Xue Baohua, making her taste the same suffering that Snow Ball was going through today.

Fortunately, Snow Ball was thrown away not far from Huachun Hall, and she walked fast. In less than a moment, she returned to the room.

But the imperial physician hadn’t arrived yet. Pei Lingyi had to put Snow Ball on the soft cushion where he usually stayed and carefully cleaned the bloodstains on his body with clean water. Every movement was extremely gentle.

Xiao Huaice thought that being turned into a cat was bad enough, but he didn’t expect to be caught and played with, abused by those women. He couldn’t do anything, only enduring their cruel beatings.

In that moment, he vaguely remembered being bullied by people in the palace when he was young. He was kicked around like a piece of unwanted cloth, left alone and helpless in a messy patch of overgrown weeds.

His consciousness was hazy, and his memories fluctuated. The hardships of his childhood were a past he couldn’t avoid. Gradually, he grew up and learned to hide himself. It had been a long time since anyone had made him feel so embarrassed.

He thought this was heaven’s punishment for him, and he was just a worthless life. But he didn’t want to submit to fate’s arrangement, so he secretly cultivated his power.
However, he didn’t expect such bizarre things to happen to him.

Perhaps… heaven really wanted him to give up, so it turned him into an animal to be tortured to death.

“Be good, you have to hold on, the imperial physician will be here soon. Just think of me, and you have to hold on.” The woman’s voice was gentle, but it was clear that she was panicked.
Xiao Huaice struggled to open his heavy eyelids, and what he saw was an extremely beautiful face.

She wore plain white clothes and a hairpin, her beauty was breathtaking.

Her eyes contained crystal clear tears, which were about to fall but hadn’t yet, giving off a shimmering effect. The goddess from his dream had actually appeared in front of him.

So… there are still people who would cry for me.

Even though Xiao Huaice knew she was only crying because of a cat, this moment was too beautiful, and he couldn’t help but think of himself as the cat.

Her cat.

“Miss, miss, the imperial physician is here!” Layan gasped as she ran in from outside. Even in the cool weather, sweat could be seen on her face, showing how hurried she was.

The imperial physician was an old man who had already gone to bed. However, he couldn’t resist the constant calling from outside, and he thought something major had happened. He quickly got dressed and grabbed his medicine box, but the girl was still urging him on.
An old man like him, who could have had a peaceful night, was instead tossed around.

As soon as he entered the room, he saw Pei Lingyi with tears in her eyes.
“Is this Miss the one who needs medical attention?” He observed Pei Lingyi’s pale face and assumed it was her.

“No, not me, it’s him,” Pei Lingyi shook her head and stepped aside, revealing the dying cat behind her.
