Chapter 101: Entering the Mansion

Since the New Year’s Eve, Pei Lingyi hadn’t seen Xiao Yan again, as if the intimate moments that night were just a dream.

The usually arrogant Heir Xiao sneaking into someone’s courtyard in the middle of the night would probably be unbelievable to others.

After all, his reputation as the King of Hell was notorious, known for killing people, but no one knew he could love someone.

But Pei Lingyi knew, and thinking about the man’s awkward and clumsy behavior, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Xiao Changyu, you have to behave, or I’ll not just stop at you, little dog.” She whispered to herself, placing a chess piece on the board.

Pei Lingyi looked out the window at the servants sweeping the snow, her gaze far-reaching.

Just then, Luoxu pushed open the door and said in a strange tone, “Miss, the little marquis will be here today.”

“Oh? Did elder brother send him a message today?” She raised her beautiful eyes, slightly surprised.

“Yes, the eldest young master just sent someone over to say that it’s better to resolve this matter as soon as possible, lest nightmares come true.”

“Hehe… a new little dog is coming.” Luoxu didn’t quite catch what her miss meant, but she could sense her pleasure, and her lips curled up into a smile.

She poured a cup of tea and said, “That day at Full Moon Building, it was clearly Third Miss Xue who was rash, but the little marquis stood up for her. It’s really unfair.”

“Miss is kind-hearted, fortunately, Miss Jiang and the eldest young master were there that day. Otherwise, we might have swallowed our anger.”

Pei Lingyi took the tea cup from Luoxu and smiled, “What do you think we should do with the little marquis?”

Layan and Luoxu, these two maids, were usually clever and knew their miss wasn’t truly kind.

Even so, they were always worried that their miss would be bullied.

But she never showed her anger openly.

She, Pei Lingyi, had enjoyed the reputation of being a well-educated and virtuous noblewoman in the capital for many years, and that was because she was always gentle and gracious in her interactions with others.

She would never show anything that could damage her reputation in front of others.

But if someone really offended her, she wouldn’t just swallow her anger and let others bully her. She was just pretending to be kind-hearted, but in reality, she was vicious.

After all, she had to maintain a good image in front of others.

Perhaps because she had been doing this for so long, even though she never hid her true nature from Layan and Luoxu, they still thought she was weak and could be bullied.

Even they thought that way, and she found it a bit amusing. But it also showed that her act was very convincing.

Whenever something happened, people would likely exclude her from being involved.

She took a sip of tea, and the tea was fragrant. It was the first new tea of the year, and she was lucky to have it.

The Pei family’s favor was at its peak.

Luoxu walked around the room, looking thoughtful, and said, “The little marquis has a noble identity, so we can’t punish him as we want.”

“Yes, the Changping Marquis Mansion had a glorious history, and they were once the most powerful family. They contributed a lot to the current dynasty.”

“But now, their power has declined. Who knows what will happen in a hundred years?” Pei Lingyi’s tone was a bit sentimental.

Time could change many things, but she believed that the Pei family would not follow the footsteps of the Changping Marquis Mansion.
She wouldn’t allow it!

The girl’s eyes were incredibly bright, filled with ambition.

Since she was born, she wanted to stand at the peak of power and leave her mark on history.

She closed her eyes and instructed, “When Shen Xun enters the mansion, come and inform me. And tell those snow-sweeping servants to leave. There’s no need to sweep anymore.”

Luoxu was surprised by her miss’s instruction. Did she really want Shen Xun to sweep the snow?

But seeing the girl’s lazy demeanor, Luoxu knew that her miss had a plan to deal with him.

Shen Xun lay in the carriage, occasionally looking out the window, his voice filled with excitement. “How much longer until we arrive at the Pei mansion? I’m eager to get there.”

The coachman was a bit helpless.
He had already answered this question countless times today, and he didn’t know what was wrong with the little marquis, why he was so excited.

Shen Xun couldn’t sleep because he was too excited to think about the secrets he was about to uncover.
His cat-like round eyes shone with a dangerous light.

It was a curiosity, a strong desire.

He never knew that the eldest miss of the Pei mansion was so interesting.

Actually, at first, he was more interested in Xue Yiran, and her talent for writing was impressive.

But that interest was interrupted.

Because he discovered something more interesting.

Pei Lingyi had too many secrets, and every layer made him curious. He wished he could strip away the layers and uncover all the secrets she kept hidden.

The carriage slowly stopped in front of the Pei mansion. The gatekeeper saw the emblem on the carriage and hurried over to welcome Shen Xun.

“Is that the little marquis? The eldest young master especially asked us to wait here and welcome the little marquis.”

Shen Xun lifted the curtain and revealed a face with rosy lips and white teeth.

The young man wore a golden crown with jade pendants, a red coat with a fox fur cloak.

He smiled and spoke in a gentle tone, “If that’s the case, I’ll trouble you to bring my things into the mansion.”

The two young servants had never seen Shen Xun before, but seeing his luxurious attire and his natural air of confidence, they knew he wasn’t like other people.

“I’m not sure what the little marquis has, but we’ll bring everything into the mansion.”

They thought he would have a few bags at most, but following Shen Xun’s gaze, they saw another carriage following behind with servants.

“Then we’ll trouble you to unload the things from the carriage.”

“I’ll go in first to visit Master Pei.” Shen Xun patted his buttocks and strolled into the Pei mansion.

The two servants looked at each other and thought, “Good grief, this little marquis isn’t here to visit, he’s here to move in, isn’t he? With so many things?”
