- Chapter 16 - Delicious, I Love Eating It (Warning: Snake content)
The dark tunnel seemed endless, with only the white, mycelium-like strands clinging to the ground and walls.
These white threads on the ground looked like cobwebs but were actually extremely hard. After her palm was scraped, the crawling baby stopped. She sat right where she was. Even though a pleasant smell drifted from ahead, she firmly refused to continue forward.
In the middle of the dark tunnel, the baby looked left and right. Perhaps because she had already experienced the Ocean’s black waters, she was not particularly afraid of the dark, but this place was not fun like the water, so she quickly felt lonely and bored.
“Brother.” The baby attempted to summon her loyal attendant.
Unfortunately, Chu Wang could not enter Inia’s dream. Her voice quietly faded away into the darkness.
Just then, a faint rustling sound of friction echoed from both sides of the tunnel. The sound was tiny, but because the entire corridor was so silent, the subtle whispers became incredibly distinct.
The white filamentous objects that had barely been visible in the darkness on the ground were suddenly covered, as if the floor had come alive, trembling like a rising wave. It was not until the floor emitted a hissing, tongue-flicking sound that one realized it was not a pattern on the ground, but the markings of countless densely packed snakes.
Dozens of snakes of various sizes approached in the darkness, their scales rubbing against the hard white fungal threads, creating a sharp and brittle sound. Without noticing, they had already surrounded Inia.
She looked like a chick thrown into a pit of snakes, her tiny form appearing weak and pitiful. The baby tilted her head, watching her surroundings with confusion, seemingly unaware of what was happening.
Snakes were everywhere, tightly encircling her. One striped snake, as thick as Inia’s wrist, silently looped itself around her waist.
At extremely close range, the snake raised its head and opened its terrifying maw toward the baby.
“Hiss.”
Perhaps it intended only to intimidate, or perhaps it truly wished to devour the little life before it.
No one knew the snake’s thoughts at that moment.
However in the next second, a small white plump soft hand closed around the snake’s neck.
The air stiffened.
The striped snake locked eyes with the infant’s amber gaze. The seemingly fragile baby defied all logic, showing no fear of the darkness. Instead, within the black void, she offered the uniquely adorable smile of an infant.
“Wuwah.” She was very happy.
These strange creatures all carried the black energy she could eat, and it was a brand-new flavor.
Inia took a bite of the snake she had grabbed. Because the striped snake was shaking its head, she bit down on the side of its neck.
The striped snake instinctively tried to constrict its tail and shake its head to counterattack, but in the next second, it froze.
A powerful and terrifying aura surged from the cub restraining it, carrying the overwhelming pressure of a top tier predator in the food chain, pressing down and saturating the entire corridor.
If ordinary beasts hunted by physically harming their prey, Inia hunted on a spiritual level.
This kind of spiritual hunting was ineffective against ordinary people and animals, as they were too weak, and their negative emotions too insignificant. Even the average strong player would not satisfy this standard.
However, the snake colony in this dungeon world had gained a sliver of intelligence beyond ordinary animals due to their constant struggles and relentless fights for strength in the gladiatorial ring, combined with the nature of this world’s setting.
Mutated animals in such an environment grew stronger through pure murderous intent and bloodlust, and these happened to be exactly on the baby’s menu. The dark negative energy gathered upon the group of snakes barely met the minimum requirement of her diet.
During the baby’s hunting game, the striped snake’s tail slowly loosened, like a rabbit being toyed with by a lion cub until it lost the will to resist.
Inia was too young and did not know how to control her power. Everything she did was pure instinct. Because she bit the snake first, making the gesture of feeding, her power instinctively devoured the energy scattered throughout the entire corridor.
The snakes tasted like spicy strips from a cheap factory—not very filling, spicy, chewy, and probably unhealthy if eaten too much.
She loosened her hand, and the power she had completely drained from the snakes automatically flowed back into her own body.
The striped snake dropped straight to the ground with a thump. This sound woke the other snakes that had been paralyzed by Inia’s power.
They remained silent for a moment, realizing the baby had made no further move, as if she had spared them. The snakes that had been spiritually bullied immediately scattered and fled to both sides. Their crawling speed was like a receding tide, disappearing in an instant.
These mutated snakes were different from the lords. Dungeon lords possessed their own power, and the darkness accumulated in their spiritual sea for various reasons was often a burden.
The snakes were different. They survived entirely on murderous intent and bloodlust, and their bodies were pure black malevolence.
So, when the baby took that bite, the snakes’ years of effort to become stronger were instantly eaten away by her.
On the bright side, they were still animals and did not possess human thoughts, or else they would probably be sobbing while escaping.
Wait, snakes do not have tear ducts. Never mind.
The baby remained completely unaware that she had unconsciously committed an act of spiritual bullying against small animals. Once the spicy strips were gone, the black corridor quickly felt boring again.
“Wuu-yaah.”
She let out baby babble once more, looking left and right, appearing eager for more creatures to emerge from the black mist and play with her.
The air remained completely silent, and no other sound came through. But just as she was looking around, the baby suddenly froze. She turned her head and looked into the depths of the dark corridor.
Everything was quiet, as if nothing was happening. Yet the baby sensed that the fragrance she had first smelled at the corridor corner was slowly approaching.
After successfully tasting delicacies several times before, the baby felt enthusiastic about this new scent. She clapped her hands happily toward the darkness, seemingly waiting to welcome a new feeder to pass through the hard netting and approach her.
The new lord who was trying to hide did not understand Inia’s anticipation. He could only see that the little bundle of a baby seemed capable of seeing through the darkness and accurately locating him.
If that were the case, concealment was meaningless.
The next moment, an enormous giant snake appeared within the black mist.
It was a black giant snake, but upon closer inspection, its scales revealed a deep rich dark green hue under different angles and light.
The mixture of cool toned dark green and black not only softened the severity of pure black but also gave the giant snake a more noble and mysterious air, making it appear remarkably beautiful.
But no matter how beautiful a snake might be, when it emerged from the darkness, one felt their life was threatened, especially one so gigantic that it seemed capable of swallowing the baby whole.
The giant snake did not move. It silently stared at the infant before it, seemingly evaluating how she had made the snake colony flee in terror.
The silence between the infant and the snake was quickly broken when the baby crawled forward a few steps.
She did not understand its scrutiny. Seeing the delicious new feeder right before her, and although it looked a bit strange, the baby still extended a hand of friendship.
Perhaps curious about the little creature’s intention, the giant snake lowered its head, watching the baby’s small hand reach out to touch it.
The instant her hand brushed the cold scales, the giant snake’s immense twisted negative power surged outward, so intense that Inia did not even need to press against it, as the chaotic energy fluctuations in the air nearly overwhelmed her.
The baby’s small brain had not processed what was happening, but her power had already begun to feed instinctively and could not stop.
The taste was soft and chewy, crystal clear, with a refreshing sweet fruity flavor, somewhat like apple jelly.
However, perhaps because the twisted negative emotions were too profound, just as the Ocean tasted like pop rocks and ice cream, the Snake Boss tasted like jelly sprinkled with sour and sweet plum powder.
Although the combination was unusual, the baby’s eyes sparkled.
Delicious! Love to eat it! She loved the new feeder!
